5 out of 5 eggsNice Sound Card

Pros: 7.1 - great fidelity. Comes with a nice suite of utilities/apps. Line in/Mic functionality (nice for recording instruments).

Cons: Had some challenges with Headphone usage and this card. Seemed to conflict as dual use sometimes.

Other Thoughts: I really like this card. I had it in a PC of mine for 7 years until I got some issues with it. Bought the replacement here, and put it into the box (as I rebuilt it and passed it along to a friend). Great sound, drivers were challenging at times (was on Vista), but seems better on Win 7.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for me..

Pros: Runs perfectly fine on Windows 8.1 for me. The first time I tried to install the driver, it told me that it didn't recognize the card being installed. I didn't change anything, but just tried it one more time and it worked... *shrug*. But it's worked like a charm since.

Cons: While better than the motherboard audio, the sound quality is not as good as my old SB XFi Titanium Fatality Pro. The sound is not quite as rich and the EAX effects, etc aren't as powerful. The basic software is kind of dated and doesn't offer as many options as I would like, but this is a common complaint. I'm not taking off any eggs though, because at only $50, this is an entry level card, and I don't expect it to compete with a $150-$200 one.

Other Thoughts: Before you buy a sound card, go to Creative's website to ensure that they have drivers for the particular card for your particular OS. They have it spelled out in easy-to-read, tabular form. A lot of complaints for cards not working on Windows 8/8.1 could have been anticipated and avoided by going to the website beforehand and realizing that drivers won't be available until early 2014. I'm running it with a set of Gigaworks T20 2.0 speakers, but I'm seriously considering an upgrade to a better 2.1 system. Hopefully that makes a difference.

4 out of 5 eggsNostalgic

Pros: 24 bits
Low profile
Packs A Punch
Improves Sound Tremendously

Cons: Driver confusing to install
No clean install option (wipes out old sound card leftovers completely)
Not the best 24 bit sound

Other Thoughts: I can't believe they still sell this card for $59.99. Please spend the $20-40 more on the modern 24 bit sound cards. Heck when those cards are on a deal they can cost this much or less.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The card itself as hardware isn't bad and still works.

Cons: The bloated software bundles that come with the card are slow and glitchy. Constant problems with those programs when using Digital Optical SPDIF. You install drivers only and then they try to slide the extra programs you don't want in on the side through updates. The best way these card work is drivers only.

Other Thoughts: Simply because of the bad software bundles that come with Creative Labs cards means the next time I buy a sound card I will be getting something that is not Creative Labs.

2 out of 5 eggsOkay, but ...

Pros: Sound is okay for computer speakers -- note that when I *listen* to CDs I use my stereo, which has balanced, one-off built speakers. I have cheap speakers for my desktop and don't expect the sound to match my stereo. YMMV.

Cons: Major con: Doesn't support Linux (Ubuntu, et c.) at all, Creative apparently has no intention of designing drivers to do so.

Secondary con: no separate jack for headphones, so if you want to switch from speakers to 'phones, you have to root around and switch them. (This, for me, is a complaint that applies to just about all cards.)

Other Thoughts: If I'd realized this card didn't support Linux, I'd have purchased a different one, a previous Creative card *did* support Linux, however those drivers do not work on this card.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound Card

Pros: Great HD sound quality and easy to install in my computer. A lot of people claim "It fried my mother board" that's because they are insolents and can't put a simple sound card into the correct slot. Picks up microphones great and beautiful 3D sound for gaming and music.

Cons: Had to Google where to put my "Line In" chord, but that took like 15 seconds.

Other Thoughts: I love Creative Labs and use a headset from them too.

1 out of 5 eggsVery frustrating, returning the card

Pros: It's a card from Creative Labs...

Cons: Extremely frustrating installation
Software and Drivers did not work together that were provided by Creative's web site.
Required getting a driver update for Creative's card from Microsoft (which I found to be odd)
Poor sound quality (sounds worse than my motherboard's on-board sound)
Absence of a Mic only port (it requires that you have working software to change Line-in to be Mic, it's not set to Mic by default.)

Other Thoughts: It took me 9 hours to get this card to work. The drivers and software provided by Creative's web site were not working together. Kept getting "The device detected is not supported by this application." when trying to start any of the programs, and yes, they were all programs selected for Windows 7 64-bit from their web site. Windows Update had the most up to date drivers for this card, not Creative's web site. Once that was installed, the applications began to work. Sound quality however was another issue. Sound will dip while playing any game, music, or video. Hearing audible static clicks when Windows sound file for a double click or single click plays. Never had this on my Realtek on-board sound from MSI. Another thought, in the world of Skype and online gaming, vlogging and podcasts, the absence of a mic only port baffles me... This was a poor decision on Creative's design. Would have been nice if everything worked correctly provided by their web site.
