4 out of 5 eggsFollowup

Pros: Good sound quality and they get more comfortable after a break in period. Even for guys with a big melon like me they stay comfortable for marathon sessions- after they are broken in. Right off the bat, I'd get a few hours but no marathons. Decent price point, excellent at isolating you from external noise while worn.

Good mic quality. I haven't had the problem some have with the mic becoming loose. The unit seems solid.

Cons: Susceptible to line noise is the best way I can describe it. If the cord is too close to the cell phone or wireless home phone, you get a background hum. Tested against a backup set of cans I use that cost 1/3 the price, in the same ZX sound card and no hum under same cord conditions. Minor gripe but these are priced at over $100 and it's irritating.

Other Thoughts: One gripe, easily fixed, and you get a truly beautiful gaming experience. I'd recommend these.

First set had a loose speaker in one of the cups. RMA was painless and extremely fast. But it's what you expect when dealing with the Egg.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound Average Quality

Pros: Has Great sound! Ear cups are comfortable. 5.1 for a great price! In-line volume helps you fine tune to your liking.

Cons: Pads on top are not as comfortable as others when wearing for long periods of time. About a year after i bought these the joint where the cup meets the strap just above the hinge is breaking (Just out of warranty of coarse!). I think I have about 6 months of use left before it breaks 100%. and I'm out of luck.

Other Thoughts: To me its just a design flaw. If the hinge had about 10 degrees more travel it would alleviate the extra stress put on the affected area.
You get what you pay for I guess. There is a reason these are one of the cheapest true 5.1 headsets available.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Dang Good

Pros: -TRUE 5.1 surround sound
-Feels solid
-Rumble is pretty amazing in games like BF4 where there are tons of explosions, you even feel every bullet being fired from your gun / tanks turrets.

Cons: -Even with EQ settings, there is too much emphisis on the highs
-No real deep bass (compared to my Creative Sound Blaster Sigma 3D even with EQ settings and it's connected to my Creative Sound Blaster Zx sound card.

Other Thoughts: I have this connected to my sound card and was hyped about the true surround sound, but because of the too much "highs" it over powers the mids (voices and foot steps) even with scout mode on on. This thing could be PERFECT if it could have great mid sound.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Headphones

Pros: For the price and its purpose this headphones are just amazing, the sound quality believe is 4 out of 5, but the strong point is that this are real 5.1, for first person shooters are perfect, you really know what is going on around you. The physical quality is 4 out of 5, the cable attached to the left headphone should be more reinforced.

Cons: After a session of 1 hour the weight starts to feel on top of the head, but its just a matter of adjusting them a little to the front or the back and let that point of pressure rest.

Other Thoughts: For the price this is a must have.

1 out of 5 eggsNOPE!!!!!

Pros: Sound decent....while they work

Cons: Received these for Christmas and just broke. I was wearing them and the left ear just literally fell off. FELL OFF!!! These have been babied along with all of my other equipment. I will NEVER buy another product from Roccat again. Not only that, their drivers are VERY poorly written and TERRIBLE! So very disappointed. Wish I could upload a picture

Other Thoughts: NEVER AGAIN

3 out of 5 eggsWere good for a while

Pros: 5.1 positioning is good. Sound quality was not audiophile, but certainly better than cheapies. My experience with the headband was not as bad as others have said, comfort has been fine.

Cons: Vibration is not as good as my previous headset, often not even noticeable. After about a year an a half, I started getting a painful crackle/pop sound in the right earphone that really ruined them for me. It's NOT a loose wire - moving the headset wire has no effect on the sound. However, when it starts happening, EVERY slight movement of my head makes it happen and it physically hurts my ear.

Other Thoughts: They lasted through the warranty, but less than two years for a headset in this price range is disappointing. While the headband was not uncomfortable for me, they are on the heavy side and I can agree with others that the "ring" pads are not as comfortable as a solid wide strip of padding would be.

5 out of 5 eggsROCCAT Kave 5.1 - Solid 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset

Pros: Great sound. Comfy after adjustment (see other thoughts.) Mic works great, I'm told my voice is very clear in teamspeak ect.

Cons: It is a bit heavy of a set.

Other Thoughts: They seemed uncomfortable when I first started wearing them. In fact they gave me a headache. After adjusting the slides on either side to about a 7 (med-large head I suppose) they were way more comfortable and I have been able to wear them for over 4 hours with no problems whatsoever.

2 out of 5 eggsCan cause Physical damage if used for extended period of time

Pros: Good 5.1 audio.
Mic CAN be good if close enough to mouth.
Plenty of ear space. You want feel your ears touching anything.

Cons: Okay, this is where it becomes a serious issue if you game for extended periods of time. If you game for longer than 3 or 4 hours you will be able to FEEL INDENTS in your skull. The massive weight of this product is daunting. If you are a serious gamer, please choose another headset.

Also, the mic resistance is very high, you usually have to turn up the Operating systems mic sensitivity.

When you have the sliders in the box set too high (above 35 or 40 percent) you will hear hissing. If you have it lower than that you will not hear hissing.

Other Thoughts: The fact that this is a GAMING headset, but can't be used for long gaming sessions without hurting the user is a little silly. Before you thumb this down let me explain what is happening.

For a couple hours the headset it okay, once you past 3 hours you will start to feel a pressure on your skull. If you take the headset off you will feel indents in the shapes of squares on the top of your head. Now if you are stupid enough to do this a lot (like me lol) they will start becoming permanent for days. I haven't worn the headset in over 2 days and (Hang on i'm checking now) Yup i can still feel a slight indentation in the skin. I would have given the this one star, however it does it's job correctly. It's just that it isn't the best choice. Choose something lighter.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up after RMA

Pros: After returning for a defective speaker in the right ear cup I'm quite happy with this headset. Clear mic, nice sounding cans, comfortable for extended sessions for those of you with a large gourd.

Really good surround for a headset I think. It's easy to locate by sound with them in games. Love it.

The RMA process was painless and fast.

Good quality and performance for the price.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsone of the best

Pros: * high quality
* good 5.1 positional audio (FPS titles)
* adequate bass
* comfortable for long play (once fitted)
* good mic

Cons: * fit - needed to add extra padding to headband
once done headset was very comfortable for extended play.
* after two years leather covering earcups disintegrating .
foam pads still intact. comfort unaffected.

Other Thoughts: have tried MANY 5.1 headsets...
all were garbage audio or very poor quality.
ALL previous 5.1 headsets were broken within a year.
This one outlasted them substantially.... still working well.
looking forward to the "Kave XTD Analog".
