2 out of 5 eggsOverall a great headset

Pros: Great sound, nice mic quality, better than most of my other headsets that I have purchased. This is the second one I purchased, the other was destroyed due to a cat getting caught in the wires. The previous device I would give a 4/5, 9/10, etc..and that is how I felt about this one as well..until recently.

I would give this a 4/5, but due to a defect in the following section I have rated it a 2/5. It has not been a full year that I have owned this device.

Cons: The one that I just purchased in April, 2014 is showing some issues now. The front right speaker is almost muted, while the other speakers work perfectly fine. While testing to see what the issue could be, I found that the slider was in fact the culprit. When I keep pushing the Front volume slider to the top it will stay at full volume, however when I release it the volume will return to about a 10.

Other Thoughts: Being that this is what the statement for the warranty on the product is on their website, I am slightly unsure if Newegg or Roccat will be the one to try to resolve the issue first.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT BUY THIS!

Pros: it workED..

Cons: its heavy and things like that yeah yeah but the biggest problem about this thing is that the sound had non stop issues from what im guessing was software bugs and after only a couple months the piece that holds the ear piece on one side actually broke and now the ear piece just dangles and i couldnt wear the thing if i wanted to

2 out of 5 eggs2nd Pair -- Broken Headband

Pros: Sounds great -- thru highs and lows too.
Comfortable for long hours.
Good ear coverage.

Cons: The only issue I have with these (now on my second pair) is due to a design fault. Where the headband strap connects with the pivot part of the cup LOOKS substantial, but it's not. It's connected only by plastic. The metal piece inside rips out of the plastic band and leaves you with a dangling ear piece.

Other Thoughts: This was a real disappointment because of the price -- especially since I bought a second pair and the same thing happened only after a few months of use.

I take really good care of them. I hang them up on a dedicated radio DJ stand. So the stress fracture is not indicative of mishandling/abuse.

Roccat is non-US and is NON-responsive to support/warranty issues. Beware.

It's a real shame they missed running these through stress tests. :(

1 out of 5 eggsterrible, do not purchase

Pros: ok price

Cons: speakers in the headset were blown when i received the headset from newegg. I contacted roccat who sent a replacement headset to me after i sent in the defective headset which i had to pay 16 $ to ship it to them they didnt cover that.
when i got the replacement it was physically broken out of the box however the speakers sounded fine but you would have to hold it against your head with 1 hand or it would fall. I contacted roccatt again and was kinda annoyed as i needed to use it. Anyway they said i wouldnt have to pay the 16^ this time and would just ship me another which i received maybe 10 days later or so and it had the same problem as the origional i got from new egg...sounded like a blown speaker.
I have been trying to get a resolution for the last 2 months or so but they just ignore me as they already have my money. I would never buy another product from this company again...if anyone wants to see the email thread let me know

Other Thoughts: do not buy, customer service is might as well light your money of fire and watch t burn...would be more entertaining. Months later i am still without a headset and never at any point had one that worked. Go with another company any save yourself the headache.

4 out of 5 eggsFollowup

Pros: Good sound quality and they get more comfortable after a break in period. Even for guys with a big melon like me they stay comfortable for marathon sessions- after they are broken in. Right off the bat, I'd get a few hours but no marathons. Decent price point, excellent at isolating you from external noise while worn.

Good mic quality. I haven't had the problem some have with the mic becoming loose. The unit seems solid.

Cons: Susceptible to line noise is the best way I can describe it. If the cord is too close to the cell phone or wireless home phone, you get a background hum. Tested against a backup set of cans I use that cost 1/3 the price, in the same ZX sound card and no hum under same cord conditions. Minor gripe but these are priced at over $100 and it's irritating.

Other Thoughts: One gripe, easily fixed, and you get a truly beautiful gaming experience. I'd recommend these.

First set had a loose speaker in one of the cups. RMA was painless and extremely fast. But it's what you expect when dealing with the Egg.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound Average Quality

Pros: Has Great sound! Ear cups are comfortable. 5.1 for a great price! In-line volume helps you fine tune to your liking.

Cons: Pads on top are not as comfortable as others when wearing for long periods of time. About a year after i bought these the joint where the cup meets the strap just above the hinge is breaking (Just out of warranty of coarse!). I think I have about 6 months of use left before it breaks 100%. and I'm out of luck.

Other Thoughts: To me its just a design flaw. If the hinge had about 10 degrees more travel it would alleviate the extra stress put on the affected area.
You get what you pay for I guess. There is a reason these are one of the cheapest true 5.1 headsets available.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Dang Good

Pros: -TRUE 5.1 surround sound
-Feels solid
-Rumble is pretty amazing in games like BF4 where there are tons of explosions, you even feel every bullet being fired from your gun / tanks turrets.

Cons: -Even with EQ settings, there is too much emphisis on the highs
-No real deep bass (compared to my Creative Sound Blaster Sigma 3D even with EQ settings and it's connected to my Creative Sound Blaster Zx sound card.

Other Thoughts: I have this connected to my sound card and was hyped about the true surround sound, but because of the too much "highs" it over powers the mids (voices and foot steps) even with scout mode on on. This thing could be PERFECT if it could have great mid sound.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Headphones

Pros: For the price and its purpose this headphones are just amazing, the sound quality believe is 4 out of 5, but the strong point is that this are real 5.1, for first person shooters are perfect, you really know what is going on around you. The physical quality is 4 out of 5, the cable attached to the left headphone should be more reinforced.

Cons: After a session of 1 hour the weight starts to feel on top of the head, but its just a matter of adjusting them a little to the front or the back and let that point of pressure rest.

Other Thoughts: For the price this is a must have.

1 out of 5 eggsNOPE!!!!!

Pros: Sound decent....while they work

Cons: Received these for Christmas and just broke. I was wearing them and the left ear just literally fell off. FELL OFF!!! These have been babied along with all of my other equipment. I will NEVER buy another product from Roccat again. Not only that, their drivers are VERY poorly written and TERRIBLE! So very disappointed. Wish I could upload a picture

Other Thoughts: NEVER AGAIN

3 out of 5 eggsWere good for a while

Pros: 5.1 positioning is good. Sound quality was not audiophile, but certainly better than cheapies. My experience with the headband was not as bad as others have said, comfort has been fine.

Cons: Vibration is not as good as my previous headset, often not even noticeable. After about a year an a half, I started getting a painful crackle/pop sound in the right earphone that really ruined them for me. It's NOT a loose wire - moving the headset wire has no effect on the sound. However, when it starts happening, EVERY slight movement of my head makes it happen and it physically hurts my ear.

Other Thoughts: They lasted through the warranty, but less than two years for a headset in this price range is disappointing. While the headband was not uncomfortable for me, they are on the heavy side and I can agree with others that the "ring" pads are not as comfortable as a solid wide strip of padding would be.
