5 out of 5 eggsGerman Engineering at its Finest

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: I was looking to get a new keyboard for my new build. I have always been a logitech fanboy. Every G series keyboard and mouse I've owned has performed flawlessly. But logitech doesn't really offer a "High End" mechanical keyboard.I did my research and looked around and i found this beauty. This is German Engineering at its finest. I got the Cherry MX Brown switches and the tactile response and feel is amazing for gaming or everyday applications/typing. Big heavy construction, feels solid. Heavy braided cables. Crazy software that blows the G-series out of the water. Cool app for smartphones to make a LED light show with your keyboard. Just features, features, features form top to bottom. Everything was thought of. I have onl;y had this keyboard for about a week so i cannot comment on the longvity of this board but by the way it was build and constructed i think it will be just fine.

Cons: My only con is that there is no LCD screen that displays the system information to gaming information that you can look at while in applications or games. Not too big of a deal for me so thats why i didn't knock an egg off. But for some i know its kind of a big deal.
Also i have my mac book laptop setup on my workstation for school and if i plug in the keyboard for it, the software does not support mac OS. Cant change lighting of the keys etc. It states windows OS compatible only but just a warning.

1 out of 5 eggsROCCAT Customer Service *****!

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: Very nice keyboard. Key presses are perfect.

Cons: If you have a problem with the keyboard, customer service will ignore you. I managed to get an RMA because one of the keys quit working. They have had the return almost a month and I STILL have not received the replacement. Furthermore, they have altogether quit responding to my email inquiries! Last ROCCAT product I ever buy!

5 out of 5 eggsRocat Ryos MK Pro - Cherry Brown switches

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: -Lighted keys
-Mechanical keys
-The entire keyboard can be reprogrammed for any function.
-NO need for extra software. Driver is only needed to program the keyboard. Once you do that, it all runs from the built-in memory on the keyboard. Love it.
-Media keys, calculator key. Most people probably don't realize how useful a calculator key is.
-Big pads prevent sliding.

Cons: -No instructions.
-Pricey. If it's on sale, buy it ASAP.

Other Thoughts: Ended up getting Cherry MX Browns since no one had Cherry MX Reds when I got mine. Still good nonetheless.

Minor gripe with Cherry MX switch keys. They should really made a stepped Caps-lock key. I kept hitting the Caps-Lock key when gaming. It annoyed me enough to go looking for a stepped Caps-Lock key to replace the one that comes with this keyboard.

Some people don't like the integrated palm/wrist rest. I love it. I've used keyboards with large integrated wrist rests and found the slope and size perfect for my hands.

If you have a Roccat mouse, you can really take advantage of the features.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: good response, mechanical, sturdy and comfortable to use for an extended basis. Lots of options for backlight controls.

Cons: a touch difficult to find some of the configuration options
the brown version is slightly more "mushy" that I would expect from a mechanical

Other Thoughts: Overall an excellent keyboard and one I would purchase again. It does take some time to find some of the configuration if you want to change the default lighting of the keys. I like the firmness of the blue cherry switches but was looking for something quieter. The trade off is it is slightly more mushy than some mechanicals but this is a very minor issue

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: --Works as it should out of the box
--Mechanical keys (I love how there is more than one choice for key switches on this keyboard. Sucks to find the things I want on a keyboard, except it only comes with one type of switch and it's not the one I want)
--Can play games that don't allow custom key mapping the way I want
--Can customize each key with macro strings or real time recording
--Easy-Shift function adds a second layer of custom commands to each key
--Extensive options for the keyboard settings
--Doesn't slide around on desk and feels solid

Cons: --Kinda pricey
--Only blue backlighting (the roccat isku fx has 16.8m color palate. why can't this one?)
--I don't like how the usb ports come out at an angle
--The wrist rest isn't detachable or adjustable. It's not completely uncomfortable, but I'd prefer it a little higher or to be able to use my own rest
--Lacking instructions or guide on how to fully utilize the keyboard software

Other Thoughts: --Not big of a deal, but I kinda wish the usb and audio plugs were gold plated. I just don't like how cruddy normal ones feel after old age.
--The rubbery keys were a bit tough for me to get used to, but it's not so bad.
--I kinda wish the W key was a little bit more to the right. When I'm in the wasd position I usually have to tilt the keyboard a little to feel comfortable, otherwise my middle finger is sitting on top of the right edge of W. But I guess that's what I have a Nostromo for.
--The software sure needs a manual, but it's not all that difficult if to figure out for basic needs. Just need to spend a little time looking and trying things out.
--I'm still not used to the brown switches, but I love them. I still bottom out when I type the tactile bump isn't really necessary unless I'm practicing to type or press lightly because I usually bottom out anyway. The sensitivity is perfect for me though.
--The keyboard in general is kinda loud when you bottom out.
--I can't wait to get a roccat kone xtd mouse and use the 'talk' function.
--The backlighting effects and the neat things you can do like setting the lights to act like an ammo indicator are really gimmicky and I don't see much purpose for it since I don't look at my keyboard while I'm gaming. I should hope most people look at their screens while gaming. Kinda useless to keep track of keystrokes and have achievements for it, But sometimes gimmicks are fun.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard, Software lacking

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: Feels great, looks great the lights are fun.

Cons: No API has been released as promised. Their software is a bit difficult to use. Their macro software doesn't let you include mouse clicks which my old Razer keyboard did.

Other Thoughts: In certain settings the lights make it easy for someone to shoulder surf and get your password as you type it!

5 out of 5 eggsStrength in keys

This review is from: ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Per-Key Illumination - Brown Cherry MX Key Switch (ROC-12-851-BN)

Pros: -Strong feel, very durable
-Individually lit keys are awesome and useful
-Different keys lighting sets for when hitting Shift, or Control, or other keys, as well as the function key
-first mechanical brown switch keyboard I've had, and it feels great
-Huge rope for a cord which I love
-Response time
-n key rollover
-Good profile settings
-Great outer finish, smudge proof, which I don't really think it truly is, but it does stay cleaner than my older Microsoft Sidewinder x4
-Brown switches are quiet enough, while also having a good bump feel.

Cons: -The macro software is confusing, very advanced. I can't make heads or tails of any of it. I'm sure it's actually great, and very intuitive, but it would be nice to have in depth instructions.
-Only in blue lighting
-Takes two USB ports, not bad for me, but I can see others having an issue with this.
-Price is a little steep, just a little

Other Thoughts: Was this keyboard worth 170 bucks? well, since now I see it on sale, it isn't, lol.
I'm not sure it's worth that price, but the build quality is awesome, you definitely feel like your typing on a metal vault, so to speak.
The lighting is cool and intuitive, and if you bough a Roccat mouse, then the TALK feature is neat, and just kinda completes a Roccat setup.

I recommend Roccat products to anyone that wants serious gaming equipment. I haven't had a problem at all with this keyboard. As said the software is not user friendly with the macros, but even without making a million macros, it's a great keyboard.
