5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Plenty of storage space. Good USB connection (3.0 is helpful when putting lots of data on/off it). Easy to use. The color is a plus - not just plain old black. I haven't had any issues with it.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsSeveral colors, reliable, fast and hot swap connectors.

Pros: A great option for people who prefer to hot swap different connectors such as (USB 3.0, thunderbolt, etc)
Several color options to personalize.
Seems reliable and fairly well built.

Cons: Connecting the cable sometime can feel a bit too tight.
But not a big deal overall.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate portable disk STBU1000101

Pros: light weight and compact

Cons: But, the hard disk stopped working after about 3 months. Computer does not discover it and the the LED that should glow when you connect to the computer switches of after few seconds. After connection to the computer, It behaves as if it is not connected to the computer. I have to see if I can get a warranty replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsFairly quick

Pros: Nice portability
Getting 100 MB/s peak transfer rate via USB3
This is fairly quick for a 5400 RPM spindle

Cons: not so far

Other Thoughts: btw there is no "cord"
It is a "cable" or more precisely a "transmission line"

5 out of 5 eggsGreat as a backup drive

Pros: 1 TB, great price (purchased during a sale/promo here at Newegg), USB 3.0. Comes apart easily for drive access if needed.

Cons: USB cord is fairly short

Other Thoughts: Have purchased several of these as backup drives and so far so good with all of them. I have purchased all of them on sale as I do feel the full retail price for this drive is somewhat high.

5 out of 5 eggsit's an external hard drive

Pros: It's fast! Like 90mb/s sustained transfer rate write on my HP Elitebook 8570p fast

Connector is awesome and can help you out in a jam with a regular bare laptop hard drive

Cons: The case is mostly plastic

Other Thoughts: So I have an old USB 2.0 Seagate 320GB drive. It is still working and I am a segate fan boy to an extent because they don't let me down like the WD's I have owned. I chose this because the Toshiba external has connector problems; and the other brands use who knows what drive inside; more often than not a hitachi (not impressed with those 2.5 inch drives at all... I am an engineer and I have seen massive failures with those) or a Western Digital which I do not like at ALL. It is a real speed demon for what it is. These comments come from a guy who is accustomed to large NetApp, EMC, Hitachi, IBM, and HP sans with multiple terabytes of SSD's serving mixed workloads.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Option

Pros: USB 3.0 and 1 TB is huge for this price.

I have been using this for music storage for a while now, and beats the hell out using eSATA drives.

The BackUp option (which I don't use, but tested) is really user friendly and easy to setup and use. (Going back and changing the options is also really easy for people who might not be the most tech savvy.) I would, without hesitation, recommend this as solid backup option for most people. Although I still don't completely get the save from Facebook option, I supposed if your account got hacked and you lost it, it would come in handy, but that happens extremely rarely.

The fact that it can be hooked up via traditional sata cables (and sata power cable) is pretty cool.

Extremely Lightweight and Compact, you won't even notice it your pack.

The drive itself performs great, it is quick and zippy.

Cons: Really short wire. I think I read you can get an 18" wire, but that doesn't add a lot to the existing (est. 10") wire that comes with it, and it the port on the drive itself is something like I've never seen before, so you are most likely limited to buying a cable from seagate and seagate only, which usually equivalates to an expensive wire. But I have to mention that the likelihood you'd need a longer wire is so slim, I understand why didn't make a much longer on. So it's a stretch as con, more just making you aware.

From above: "The fact that it can be hooked up via traditional sata cables (and sata power cable) is pretty cool." BUT, i see no real use for it, the drive does fit in either of my HDD docks, so the functionality of this feature seems lost.

The lack of a powered option is downfall as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of not having the extra wires, but there are times it would be nice to have it available if needed. But that is my stretch at coming up with another con.

For this price I have to assume it is a traditional HDD, which means despite it's portability is subject to the same restrictions as another traditional HDD, as opposed to a SSD, meaning that heat, magnetism, and dropping it, are extremely bad for it. So make sure you handle it with care. But again that is another stretch for a con, because currently these type drives are the only option we have, anyone that is using SSD's for backup have a lot more money than I do.

Other Thoughts: I would easily recommend this drive to anyone for any reason that they might need the extra drive, and the price is hard to beat, especially for 1TB. (Based on my assumption that it is a 2.5 HDD inside the case, it is cheaper with the case than you can get a 1TB HDD without a case currently. I am also assuming it is 5400rpm drive, which is also standard for "backup" drives, (and most inexpensive laptops), for 99% of the things you would use an HDD for you'd never even notice the difference between a 7200rpm and 5400rpm drive)

Test Systems:

Desktop: Intel Core i7-3770K, Asrock Fatal1ty z68 "professional" Gen3 Mobo, 16gb Corsair "vengence" RAM, 2 180gb Corsair Force GT's in raid 0,
MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti, CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX750

Laptop: lenovo IdeaPad Z570 (1024XB3) Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" Wide XGA 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW Intel HD Graphics 3000
