2 out of 5 eggsInfant Mortality

Pros: The price was decent for the 4 drives that I purchased to go into the QNAP TS-869L NAS box

Cons: One of the four drives was running for less than three days and started head clicking. I looked up and saw that the red led was lit for the 4th drive in the NAS. Needless to say that it is going back for replacement tomorrow under the RMA process.

Other Thoughts: Sucks that the NAS box (RAID 6) is now hanging by a thread until I get in a drive that I ordered, which won't get shipped until Monday (too late in the day).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Data Drive

Pros: Speed and size. I needed to replace a WD Green 2TB data drive that was nearing capacity. Speed is much better. ATTO registers 175k write and 185k read and this is on a SATA II port. The older WD Green only got 110k and 117K.

Cons: None. Great price/performance and price/capacity.

Other Thoughts: I'm running Windows 7 Pro and have a SSD as the boot drive. On initial connection, this drive shows up with a 2G and 1G partition if set up using MBR partitions. You have to initialize using GPT as the partition table via the Computer Management > Disk Management console. Then you get a single partition with a capacity of 2794GB. Awesome!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: This is my 10th seagate SV line hard drive , think this line is best value for the money , it's got capacity , long life and speef with a good warranty . Over the last 2 years not one of the drives have gone bad , they are on 24/7
Quiet , fast reliable .
And you should get 2.7 tb of space , don't partition it MBR or you'll get 2.1 tb and 745 gb unallocated space , partition it GPT

Cons: not a 5 year warranty like seagate of old .

Other Thoughts: the barracuda line of drives have been a problem for me 1 of 3 has a screeching noise at start , SV from now on , better warranty , made to run 24/7 and longer mtbf according to seagate

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: Good capacity and overall performance.

Ordered six and none were DOA.

Cons: None specific to this drive.

That said, what happened to Seagate's 5-year warranties? 3-years is better than one I suppose...

Other Thoughts: Dropped six of these in our existing FreeNAS media server to double our storage. Paired up with a HighPoint RocketRAID 2720SGL and had no setup issues.

They've been running 24x7 for about 2 months. Weekly ZFS scrubs have shown zero data corruption to date.

3 out of 5 eggsSome motherboards won't recognize

Pros: almost 2800GB, sata.

Cons: Not really 3tb, only 3 commercial TBs. Motherboard only recognized at 750gb drive, had to use an internal pci to sata raid card that recognized it instantly.

Other Thoughts: Maybe tell people that it won't be recognized as 3TB on most computers, but only 750gb. I feel mislead by Seagate on this one, they really need to explain this BEFORE people buy it.
