2 out of 5 eggsWill not last

Pros: Drives are large capacity rated for 24/7 use.
Seagate 3year Warranty.

Cons: After 16 months 2 out of 3 purchased developed bad sectors leading to total drive failure.

Other Thoughts: These drives work fine for a while but do not seem to last. Hopefully the refurbished replacements they send for warranty will last longer.

4 out of 5 eggsComputer Aid FTP server 24/7 and going strong

Pros: I am basing this review on running this drive in an FTP server that is running 24/7. After a few months I have found no issues with this drive. Speed wise people are asking me if I increased the server speed they they are noticing a big speed boost. On my side while loading items I know it is faster than what I had before. Now to be fair I can't afford to upgrade this server often so the drive I replaced was about 3 years older.
I have had no hiccups or issues at all. This sever gets rebooted during regular once monthly maintenance and it takes about two minutes because I shut down test outlet and battery backup then starts it back up and it runs till the next month. It has been flawless enough that I have ordered another to replace another drive.
This server transfers terabits every day. It is always getting hit and hit hard.

Cons: Although I think it has been a 5 star drive I am trying to be fair by giving it only four because I think you guys reading this would like to have it running longer before I give it 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: If you buy one. I don't think you will be disappointed based on my experience. Work it hard when you get yours. If it fails then return it. I suspect some of the other reviews to be a little unfair.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Reliable

Pros: Fast. Did not arrive DOA.

Cons: Constant failures.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to let the facts speak for themselves.

I purchased 8 3TB drives from Newegg in September of 2012 for use in a RAID-6 array. I was looking for always-on functionality, and these fit the bill. My first warranty replacement happened in October of 2012, a little over a month after I purchased them, and I have been replacing drives once every 3 months since then. At one point, I had to warranty 2 at once (I'm glad I went RAID6). I have warrantied 8 drives, and am now listening to a drive clicking as I process its warranty as well. At this point, I don't even know if any of them are the originals anymore, if any, but since I am now replacing the ninth drive, at least one of the warrantied failures has lasted less than 2 years, as well.

My warranty on these drives expires in July of 2015, and I have no illusions that they will last very long beyond then, so I am already planning out my replacement path. You can bet that none of those drives will be Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsFail

Pros: Performed as expected for 25 months.
Sold as having 3yr warranty.

Cons: System hung during normal operation. Upon reboot drive failed during post and the horrible click of death could be heard.
When I contacted Seagate about a warranty replacement I was informed the drive was out of warranty. Apparently it was manufactured when the policy was a 1 year warranty but was sold after Seagate changed to a 3 year warranty

Other Thoughts: I've contacted Seagate. We will see.

2 out of 5 eggsBe prepared with backups

Pros: These drives are rated for surveillance use, 24/7 operation, with a 3 year warranty.

Cons: After 15 months I have one drive with a few bad cluster developing and a second drive that started with bad clusters before failing completely. Given that I bought 3 of these drives, to have 1 full failure and a 1 with bad clusters is a pretty bad sign.

Other Thoughts: Seagate is warranty replacing the failed drive, I am hoping that the other bad cluster drive fails completely before the warranty is up. I upped my RAID from one drive redundancy to two drive redundancy and now am using drives from several different manufactures to reduce likelihood of simultaneous failures.

2 out of 5 eggsupdate on drive

Pros: it worked well for 6 months

Cons: after 6 months started to make some noise , was running hot , at 11 months it seized started making a high pitched whine , could not read any data on the disc , disc no longer recognized , over 2 tb of lost data . Not the seagate of old , still have some 10 year old Seagate drives running , seagate drives from the last 2 years have 3 dead out of 6

Other Thoughts: Seagate is no longer my go to hard drive , quality has gone down . Hope my seagate constellation srives last longer than these SV35 drives .

1 out of 5 eggsA dud - don't waste your hard earned money on these drives

Pros: none

Cons: After purchasing 2 of these drives in February I've yet to receive even 1 that is actually works and is new.
I've had the drives already replaced 3 times, with most of them being DOA. I wanted to set up a raid drive with mirror storage for my photos and video clips, and haven't been able to do any of that.
What's even worse, is that now Seagate wants me to accept refurbished drives as opposed to new ones ... I can't believe it, after all the money I gave them was NEW and not refurbished.
Problems encountered were couldn't format the drive, couldn't boot PC when drive connected via SATA port, couldn't low-level format the drive, drive turned "read-only" mode after 2 weeks of use - all of these problems encountered on a PC that already has 3 HDD connected and working without any issues.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good drives

Pros: So far these drives have been working well , silent fast , for a none ssd , and runs cool . Have been running 24/7 for the last 16 months with zero problems /

Cons: not 5 year warranty

Other Thoughts: wish it still had seagate 5 year warranty , still better than the 1 or 2 year warranty on other seagate drives , that makes this one the one to get , low price lots of space and 3 year warranty .

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good value for the size and built for 24/7 opperation

Cons: Quit working a little less than a year after purchase. Started to have errors in the file system, and it continued to fail. Contacting Seagate for the Warranty. Lost all the data even when trying to use data recovery tools like testdisk.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drives

Pros: Fast drives. I have 6 of them in my Synology NAS right now. Three I've had for over a year and 3 I just bought. No DOAs, no failures (knock on wood).

Cons: None so far.
