3 out of 5 eggsaverage

Pros: Good price and speed.

Cons: Had a DOA, newegg to the rescue of course. The Seagate disk software is buggy.

Other Thoughts: Not impressed, will be going back to Western Digital

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far.

Pros: Large Capacity, decent read/write speeds. Seagate.

Cons: Drive buckles a little during times of read AND writing at the same time. I guess you do expect a little performance degradation when you get into large drives.

Sometimes when I turn on the computer, The HD makes a grinding noise when spinning up. Sounds like the internal mechanics might be going to go out soon.

Other Thoughts: Good drive, and don't have many complaints about it. Much better than my SDD that I bought that went out 6 months after purchasing it.

5 out of 5 eggs4 of 4 working

Pros: All 4 worked. Did a very short burn-in with various tests, then installed into my readynas NV+. No problems noted with the drives. Pretty quiet and they didn't seem to get too hot during testing before putting into the NAS box.

Cons: The seagate seatools "smart test" failed on all 4 drives. All other tests passed, plus manually looking at the SMART data showed no obvious problems. If the drives fail than I guess that will teach me a lesson, but I suspect that it is the seatools utility that is at fault.

Other Thoughts: Not the fastest or newest drives but they work ok. They were shipped with all 4 of them in a portion of the OEM foam crate, plus bubble wrap, plus paper filler to keep the drives from rattling around in the box. It still isn't the best packaging job and is about the minimum level of care I'd expect to see for shipping hard drives, but it seems to have worked since none were DOA out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Seagate is still a good company.

Cons: DOA, RMA'd for replacement.

Other Thoughts: Wish Newegg would package hard drives better than just bubble wrap.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted... for 11 1/2 months

Pros: Inexpensive at the time of purchase. Ran cool and quiet.

Cons: Deteriorating performance after about 9 months, dead in less than a year.

Other Thoughts: I have two of these drives, one in my WHS and one in my desktop. Replacing the drive in my main PC is the real headache. Failure in the home server would have been easier to handle. There was a lot of chatter about these drives being of less quality. I suppose I got what I deserved by chasing the bargain. Seagate's RMA process is easy enough. I will see if they follow through with the replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsRidiculous

Pros: None

Cons: Dead in the box.
Two hours to wait for tech support , only to have them forward diagnostic tools available on their website. Was informed that if I needed the drive, they would ship it to me for an additional twenty dollars and I was responsible for return shipping of the defective drive.
Sixty dollar drive, half a day waiting for support and twenty dollar return charge. Hope NewEgg does a heck of a lot better.

2 out of 5 eggsShot in the dark

Pros: Cheap and normally considered good drives

Cons: Ordered 5 and had two fail out of the box. Now that could have been a packing issue but they still failed. RMA in process.

Other Thoughts: Burn in your DRIVES! If you have linux dd is your friend. I think I will drive a drive burn utility because there seems to be a lack of any out there that do what I want.
