Killer speed - Built on the performance bloodlines of WD Raptor, these 10,000 RPM drives, with SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and 16 MB cache deliver mind-bending performance. Not only are they 35% faster than the previous generation WD Raptor drives, but they also beat out all other competitors in the field.

Rock-solid reliability - Designed and manufactured to mission-critical enterprise-class standards to provide enterprise reliability in high duty cycle environments. With 1.4 million hours MTBF, these drives have the highest available reliability rating on a high capacity SATA drive.

Double the capacity - State-of-the-art technology packs twice the capacity per disk compared to its older brother WD Raptor resulting in up to 300 GB of high-performance storage space in this enterprise-class 2.5-inch drive.

Small form factor - This ultra fast 2.5-inch hard drive is engineered to fit into blade servers and other enterprise storage configurations. (Not designed for use in laptop or notebook computers)

Ultra-cool operation - WD VelociRaptor consumes 35% less power than the previous generation of WD Raptor.

Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) - Optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

5 out of 5 eggsBest deal.

Pros: I purchased this HDD during cyber monday sales for a great price. On my budget I wouldn't normally go for this, I'd probably do a mix and match of an SSD and a 7200 RPM. It has worked wonderfully. No strange noises, no worrying heat.

Cons: Would like to see a better price on HDD like this some day.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: It shows up in the BIOS

Cons: After telling Windows Vista to initialize it in Disk Manager then proceeded to a quick format, it got stuck. Cancel never worked. I rebooted, and Windows freezes every time I log on as long as the hard drive is connected to my motherboard. Disconnecting it fixes the issue. DO NOT BUY!

Other Thoughts: At least I got a 1-2 year warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed with Newegg!!

Pros: It's a hard drive.

Cons: I bought it thinking it was a notebook drive. It's not a notebook drive. Why was it listed as such? I can't return it because it was a refurb unit.

Other Thoughts: Good customer service would have caught this error and saved me time!

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: I purchased this to raid with my other 300g raptor drive for gaming. Plug in play all the way, setup was easy and worked great with my current drive.

Cons: At first I didn't see the "2.5" I was paying more attention to the specs then the size, wish they advertised the size better, for a full size case and gaming I would have much rather had the full size hard drive.

3 out of 5 eggsFast indeed

Pros: Fast

Cons: Error

Other Thoughts: Refurbished: 2.5’’ 300GB VelociRaptor WD3000BLFS 10000 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Enterprise Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Review on Newegg:

I used HD Tune to test it soon after its installation, and it could not finish it due to disk error. HT Tune's error scan found 5 areas with error. I returned it.

It is indeed quite fast. The average transfer rate is about 100MB/sec, about 40% than a new WD 500GB 7200 RPM disk. However, you could get a speed close to that from a 1.5TB 7200 RPM HD.

As always, Newegg handled the return extremely well.

2 out of 5 eggsBeware not for laptops!

Pros: Can't put in laptop. There was no indication that this drive was thicker that a late model 2.5 inch laptop drive. I bought this to put in my T61P from Lenovo, and it doesn't fit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive!

Pros: Fast drive, easy setup. Basically what you'd expect from a 10k drive.

Cons: Loud. There is a noticeable squeal that sounds exactly as if you were running your CD/DVD drive at full speed constantly. As soon as I installed it there was a prominent high pitched noise emanating from my case.

Other Thoughts: This is a great drive thus far, only time will tell whether it lasts or not. I've had fairly good luck with WD drives so unlike a lot of the other DOA reviews I'm pretty confident this will last a good long while.

The drive is temporarily mounted right now, I've ordered an Icepak to help cool it and hopefully dampen the sound. It's a bare drive and listed as such so I can't complain it didn't come with cables or other peripherals. No eggs docked because it seems like a solid drive and the response time is very good. Upgrading from a 7200rpm drive the speed and access times are immediately noticeable.

1 out of 5 eggsWD3000BLFS

Pros: It got here soon

Cons: Where is the heat sink that is supposed to be attached to it?

Other Thoughts: I guess new egg is trying to get rid of these things. Had I known i could have bought one with a 32mb cache, brand new, with a heat sink, I would have bought that one instead.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive!

Pros: Fast
Far cheaper than a new 300GB Raptor
Quieter than my original 150GB raptor

Cons: No IcePack drive heatsink

Other Thoughts: I used the heatsink from a far dead drive as a replacement so not being shipped with one wasn't an issue. Did a surface scan and stress test of the drive before I restored an OS image and found no errors whatsoever. Buying good drives like makes me look at recertified/refurbished drives more positively.
