Pros: It had very nice packaging, and promised great things

Cons: The things didn't work, was corrupt from the moment I installed it. Spent about five hours on the phone with support trying to retrieve documents. ***NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NEW ITUNES***

Pros: Best price/performance single drive NAS around.
SSH is a checkbox away.
Using these everywhere I can. Using rsnapshot to backup to servers off-site.
I get solid 70-80 MB read and 50-60 MB write speeds (big b people look on wikipedia) from the 20 or so I have purchased. This is using windows Vista/7 machines.
They are Quite, consume very little power, and sleep.

Cons: So the 100MB read speeds are not possible in any useful task besides presumably WD's synthetic benchmarks.

I have had 1 issue with a NAS that a later firmware flash resolved. So far no RMA's.
This device needs to be stored in a climate controlled room under 85* with high humidity otherwise the device send warning emails and ultimately will shut the nas off until temps return to normal.
Disable all unused services via management interface to speed it up a bit. (twonky, time machine, web access) Twonky being the worst offender.

I think the large majority of owners rating this device down where failure was not the issue appear to be simply inexperienced. 3 MB read speeds sounds like a VERY NICE 2.4GHZ 802.11G wireless network.

If you want good network performance plug in that cat5 or study up on your wireless capabilities.

Pros: Nice interface and easy to configure.

Cons: Copying data to this device is very problematic. Any copy I attempt over 500 MB or so will cause the device to freeze. The only way to fix it is to power cycle the device.

Other Thoughts: As with most WD products, be prepared to spend a lot of time trying to resolve the problems.

Pros: It had plenty of storage and can be accessed from any were.

Cons: DO NOT BUY IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WIRELESS N ROUTER WITH GIGABIT LAN. You won't get the 30MB/s speed only 2MB/s wirelessly and 10MS/s via ethernet if your lucky.

Other Thoughts: Purchaced the 2TB but WD sent 3TB as replacement when it failed for free.

Pros: None!

Cons: Extremely Slow! My TimeMachine is always running just trying to keep up with what I did the day before. Dashboard interface is sluggish. Drive gets pretty hot, its loud, it even makes sound "clunking" away. Even if I have all my devices turned off. Why? This drive is way over priced what is offers.

Other Thoughts: I wish I would of went to the WD forums before I purchased this. All kinds of problems with it. Mac and PC.

Pros: Easy to install. Had a 1GB World Book which had worked well and needed more storage space.

Cons: Could no longer be seen on the network after 9 months. Must use proprietary software to back up. Software will not backup locked files. Software is not user friendly or intuitive.

If there is any light other than green on the front LED, then the device is not properly connected to the network either physically or logically. Secondly, check if the My Book Live is connected to a router/switch, run the WD Link software that was provided with your drive to verify that your computer can connect to the User Interface. Pros: Great home based package. Lots of storage for a reasonable price. Recognized by my Win 7 system right off the bat.

Cons: Firmware is a problem. Lots of reported problems (read the reviews) but WD responds VERY slowly for update fixes. New releases break older working features (e. g. allowing the MBL to sleep when not being accessed).

After the latest firmware update - my MBL went to sleep and NEVER woke up again. Presently awaiting a RMA replacement.

Other Thoughts: OK - you should never update a working system - but there was a new media server in this update - and it seems to have features that I can use (still to be seen when I get my replacement).

WD support seems good. RMA process had trouble with my credit card (required for Advanced RMA where they ship a replacement BEFORE you send the broken one back). But they fixed that also.

Pros: For the money this will be decent for small homes just wanting to get a device that will do media streaming, and basic file storage tasks.

Cons: Safepoint operation is a large issue. Troubleshooted for a few weeks trying to figure out why it would hang. Found that if the Safepoint operation tries to copy a file that is in use, or that has changed before the operation had completed it would hang and fail.

Other Thoughts: Would not suggest for a Small or Medium Business, this NAS is best left in a home.

As a recommendation, is always good to have all the files that you are working on closed before the Safepoint starts.

Pros: fast set up. plugged into my wireless network, and automatically worked on my both my macbook and windows laptop. just what I was looking for. no wires needed.

Cons: transfer speed is a bit slow

Pros: I have 7 of these drives for the entertainment center. They’re ok for home use, like storing mass quantities of media and work ok with WDTVLIVE media player and network cameras using samba server and ftp. I disabled that Time Machine backups, Twonky media stream service and iTunes server.

Cons: Navigation through setup menus is painfully slow. Status LEDs burned out on almost all of them ( including two replacements, I gave up on RMA ). WD should add an option in setup to turn off status LEDs all together so the drives don’t look crippled when you have a few of them. There is no way to remove public share with full access, anyone could write any time and clog up these drives.

Other Thoughts: These drives have enough bang for the buck and I’ll probably buy more of them in the future but I wouldn’t use it for professional purposes.
