1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Seagate 600 Series ST240HM000 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good Paperweight

Cons: Doesn't work. Forced my computer to BSOD when formatting.

Other Thoughts: Never considering buying a seagate hdd/ssd again. I've had great luck with Kingston, PNY, and Sandisk ssd's

5 out of 5 eggsSo far very great!

This review is from: Seagate 600 Series ST240HM000 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, well priced, looks nice..it's an SSD

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've had this about 3 months now. I put in a Lenovo G500 and put Debian Stable on it and so far it has done great! Everything is fast, boots and shuts down fast, etc. I haven't run tests to test the speed, but I'm very content with it! I'm usually leery about putting my full recommendation to someone for an SSD until I've owned it about a year, because I still find them to be on the sketchy side (having 3 that have failed), but I'll assume Seagate's SSDs are as good as their drives and will last me a good long while

Pros: Fast, easy install, nice construction, plenty of room.

Other Thoughts: I used this to breathe some new life into my older Dell E6400. So far this has proven to be a wise purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsMy first Seagate SSD

This review is from: Seagate 600 Series ST240HM000 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Mine got a 87% UBM score. It scored higher than the average of 76% of tested units.

Sequential average 422 MB/s (sort of disappointing)
4K random average 39 MB/s (higher than expected)
Deep Queue 160 MB/s (par for this drive although some less expensive 240gb drives can outperform this, might be a concern to gamers but I don't notice BF4 map loads taking any longer than my Samsung or Jay Crest drives)

Cons: The norm for Seagate is inconsistency and it has been the case for half a decade. They are solid for so much but the difference in performance in all of their drives, solid or mechanical, made me hesitate before buying this on sale. I am happy with the drive, with any SSD that can sport above 300mb/s sequential you don't have to worry a whole lot. Benchmarks don't account for hardly 25% of average usage scenarios. Seagate on a budget is good for entry level, higher capacity SSD. For the price you get a very good drive, so don't expect miracles.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA-S.M.A.R.T Fail

This review is from: Seagate 600 Series ST240HM000 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast shipping. Thanks Newegg

Cons: DOA S.M.A.R.T, installed this drive to my computer booted it up to do a clean install of Windows 7. Got the S.M.A.R.T error during reboot of install process. Completed the install by pressing F1 to resume, did not notice any speed difference in booting even after pressing F1 to resume. Re-installed the OS many time looked into BIOS and made sure everything was updated. So after reading, I am returning this drive due to the error that I have upon boot. I had a Seagate 1TB HDD and after 2 yrs. it started clicking and while backing up the data that drive completely died. I was hoping that this drive would be a good replacement since there is no physical spinning drive. Based on the storage size and the price it looked like a good buy but it didn't work. Some state that the drive will fail later on due to this S.M.A.R.T error, Im not taking any chances on this and returning the drive back. Bottom line when you get a SSD and this was my first purchase of one you expect it to work but this one was DOA before it was even used.
I have had two Seagate storage devices 1TB HDD died after 2 years of use, and a this 240 SSD DOA. I'am going to look into other brands or just pay more for a quality made SSD.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this drive as it has not worked, did not notice any speed increase in boot times or program loading in the short time that it did work. when it finally stopped my PC would boot then blue screen then cycle again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD

This review is from: Seagate 600 Series ST240HM000 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Drive is very fast and (so far) has been extremely reliable. Continuing to monitor SMART status. Will update review if things change.

Based on current status and performance from this SSD, will be purchasing more Seagate SSDs as needed.

Cons: Not necessarily a con, but... If you want to use an SSD drive in a standard 3.5" mount, you must purchase a separate adapter.

Other Thoughts: Finding a good adapter can be problematic. Would like to see Seagate should offer either a "second version" of this drive that includes a 3.5" adapter or an adapter that can be purchased separately. A good adapter should work in a standard 3.5" bay and/or a hot-swap 3.5" bay and *NOT* impair the SSD's performance. Finding a quality adapter can be an arduous process.
