OCZ RevoDrive X2 OCZSSDPX-1RVDX0240 PCI-E 240GB PCI-Express x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This was my first SSD. Bought it in February 2011. It absolutely destroyed my previous striped RAID configuration's performance. Great boot times, and the latest games would launch and load quickly.

I loved this drive while it worked. :(

Cons: Three major cons:
1) Uncertain whether this is strictly a fault of the RevoDrive, however, I was never able to get TrueCrypt to work with this product. TrueCrypt balked, something about insufficient memory space. I have the famous ICH10R controller on my mobo, which the RevoDrive doesn't play well with.

2) Any time I would update my motherboard's BIOS or want to reformat and do a clean Win7 installation, it was more art than science getting the motherboard to recognize the presence of the RevoDrive to enable OS installation and subsequent boot.

3) Here's the biggest problem: after 1 year, my RevoDrive began to flake out on me. Instead of seeing four separate 55 GB partitions during the RevoDrive's status indicator at boot, I would sometimes see three. Since I used my RevoDrive as my boot drive, this rendered me unable to boot my system. In these instances, I would power down, wait a bit, and reboot and it usually self-corrected after two or three tries and then run fine for a month or two. Seemed like a nuisance, gave me some good scares, but I didn't think it warranted an RMA.

However, now after slightly under 22 months of ownership, it has become an expensive paperweight. Once in a while it will recognize all four 55 GB partitions on boot (meaning I can boot into Windows); however, the system will run for a max of 5 minutes before a hard freeze followed by a BSOD.

Other Thoughts: I am going to RMA this through OCZ Support. In the meantime to tide me over I purchased a Vertex 4 256 GB SATA SSD on sale. I was hesitant to buy another OCZ SSD given my experience with the RevoDrive, which is sad because I don't think that OCZ necessarily makes garbage SSDs. I think this product is just too "bleeding edge" for its own good, thereby tarnishing OCZ's reputation.

I loved the RevoDrive's speed yet feared and dreaded OS reinstallations, BIOS updates, anything that would "rock the boat" and cause me to spend an evening struggling to get my system to recognize my RevoDrive again.

Now that regular SSDs are so much faster than they used to be, I think I'd rather use the more industry-standard SATA SSDs and avoid the headache of PCI-E SSDs.

Lastly -- OCZ, I encourage you to update the product and driver descriptions to indicate whether Windows 8 is compatible and supported. The driver on the OCZ site currently says "XP/Vista/7" which may discourage prospective customers.

Pros: The thing is fast. It truly does load windows up in just 5-9 seconds. It is stable, although STEAM does not like it at all. Had to put that application on another hard drive, which still worked out.

It was simple to install, and pretty nice overall since it came in a small package.

Cons: The fact it took up a PCI-E slot was... difficult. Because I could not seat it as securely as I would have liked. It wobbled if I bumped my computer, and I would have to play with it to get it rolling again.

Major fail point here and the reason for the 3 stars is that it died 11 months after I purchased and installed it. It just died. So all my information I had saved on it, was lost. I am sure I can recover it with specific tools, but I dont have the time or the desire to try a data recovery.

Other Thoughts: Many people complain about price, and it is high, but that did not affect the eggs. The fact it was amazing when it worked, just made it that much more awesome. Unfortunately, the fact it stopped working in under a year, irks the eggs right out of me and out of the rating.

I have two 1TB Raptors in a RAID config that is fast, but not as fast as this drive. I really wish things worked out different.

Pros: Was fast when it worked

Cons: Died after a year and a half. Specs claim a 2,000,000 hour mean-time-before-failure, but mine failed after about 13,000 hours. One of the four 55GB drives in the raid array failed, rendering the whole thing useless. Very disappointed with this drive given the past positive experiences I've had with OCZ products. Opened a RMA ticket with OCZ. Hopefully there will be no snags getting a refund/replacement given the 3 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: Won't be using any revodrives again.

Pros: It's fast (you knew that)

Cons: After 1 year and 3mos it failed to start with a missing 55gig drive. Evidently Others have had the same problem. OCZ is replacing it under warranty but I expected better. Beware.

Other Thoughts: Buy a newer model or better yet get a Crucial. Even though The Crucial drive measures slower it actually seems faster in use and it is more reliable.

Pros: OCZ support was A+ for online forum as well as telephone technical support. I received the necessary assistance and support to get my defective Revodrive X2 240GB replaced.

Cons: Sorry it had to happen but OCZ was there to make things right.

Other Thoughts: I received a brand new replacement RevoDrive X2 from OCZ. I installed it, cloned the O.S. and programs from the defective original RevoDrive X2, turned machine off, placed new drive in original PCIe high speed slot and rebooted. New SSD worked immediately from the super fast boot up.
HOpefully, this SSD will not suffer the data problems of the original. Thank you OCZ.

Pros: The Revo X2 240GB is without a doubt a top performer. Aside from all the benchmark scores being industry leading for this type of drive, it's real world performance really shines. I am mostly a gamer, so fast loading times, smooth gameplay is soo nice to have. Of course graphics cards do the heavy lifting, but to not have that one bottleneck (HDD) is a big plus in my book. I also do 3D digital landscapes and the like, render times are very fast with the Revo X2, gotta love it. Multi-tasking is a breeze. Installation was soo simple, place the card in a PCIe slot and you are good to go.

Cons: For a novice install could be tricky. With having to install the correct drivers during Windows install. But OCZ has one of the best support groups to help you along the way. TRIM is lacking because the card is a RAID array. Intel may be the one to look at here.

Other Thoughts: My experience with OCZ and the Revo X2 has been excellent. Recently had to call upon OCZ tech support for a malfunctioning drive. Must say, the tech support and RMA team has been very quick to respond, is very efficient and totally professional.

Pros: OCZ ripped me off!! As you can see from my previous reviews I have had issues with the Rexo2 X2 drive that I have purchased 8 months ago, it lasted 7, with the last month going around and around with Customer Service, They agreed to upgrade me to a Revo3 X2 as well as return shipping. They kept telling me that they would e-mail the shipping label, this dragged on for a week with several phone calls and comments a day trying to get them to live up to their promises. On Friday Jan 6th in the evening I finally received it, Just in time to have to wait over the week to ship it out UPS. On Jan 12 I received the drive, to find to dismay that is was a Revo3, not the X2 that was agreed upon. OCZ's reply is that they "Upgraded" me, and that was all they were going to do. Today I can get that drive that they sent as a replacement for 135 dollars less than the Revo2 X2 drive that I had bought, I can even get the Revo3 X2 drive for $35 less....

Cons: Don't waste your time and money on any OCZ products. Look at the reviews! I feel that they are peddling known defective products, and will not stand behind them!

Other Thoughts: In my humble opinion, OCZ has lied, cheated, and stolen from me. Never, ever will I buy, use, or recommend another OCZ product. I will however caution all about my experience/nightmare... I will frame, and display the unopened box on the wall as a reminder..
I have been patient throughout this, now I'm turning the matter over to my attorney.

Pros: Super duper fast

Pros: At this point there isn't any good news, turning into an ongoing saga....

Cons: It appears that OCZ customer service has given me lip service, telling one thing, and not living up to their promises.. I think that it's time to put my first plan into action.....

Other Thoughts: Not a happy camper at this point... It will probally be next Christmas before I'll be able to edit my Christmas Videos from this past Christmas at this rate.

Pros: Just got off the phone with Danny at OCZ Customer Service concerning the drive in which I wrote in the previous review. He and the rest of the staff were very kind and helpful. We arrived at a resolution that addressed my concerns.
With Customer Service as top-notch as OCZ has, they now have a customer for life!

Cons: No cons so far.
