WHAT WILL I DO NOW?! Buy sub-par ram?

Other Thoughts: DEAR OCZ,

Please re-enter the RAM business, I miss your compatibility, low temps, high performance, excellent heatsink designs, great speeds, Voltage Protection Warranty, and your wonderful support.

Thank you,

1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt do what it's supposed to

Pros: If it worked - there'd be quite a few

Cons: I couldn't get this ram to run at anything past 1066mhz and be stable on prime95 or on memtest.

Flashed bios, changed voltage and tried a few others things... no luck.

The utility software you can download for the overclocking too is garbage.

Other Thoughts: Dont buy this.

2 out of 5 eggsFeeling ripped off

Pros: Small enough physically to just fit under a CM V6GT proc cooler. No problem running 4 sticks at 1600 with mild voltage bump. Scores 7.5 in WEI 7Pro64

Cons: BEMP only works with two sticks, not four. This doesn't seem to be public knowledge. I only found out when trying to enable BEMP through AOD. Have to manually set timings in BIOS. No POST at 1600 under 1.68V. BSOD over 1616. Paid a premium price expecting stable OC.

Other Thoughts: I still can't find any info stating that BEMP only work with two DIMMs (aside from AOD telling me when I try to enable). Since I paid extra for BEMP, I feel very angry towards AMD for failing to disclose that it wouldn't work.

Win 7Pro64 w/SP1
MSI 790fx/GD70
965 BE 18x w/CoolerMaster V6GT
4x2GB OCZBE1600C8LV4GK @1616
2x MSI R5770 Hawk in CrossfireX
4x1TB Hitachi Deskstar in RAID 1+0
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W PSU
Thermaltake Xaser VI

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you are having difficulties. AOD is an AMD chipset feature, controlled by your system BIOS. We sell this product as a 2 stick kit, and when running 2 kits (4 sticks total,) BEMP is disabled by your BIOS. The actual issue is that by loading up all 4 memory slots with 8gb of RAM, you have increased the load on your memory controller and reduced it's ability to overclock. This is why AMD has disabled BEMP. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have on our support forums at the link below. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsTwice Bad Memory

Pros: none that I can think of.

Cons: I'm running this memory with the hardware below.
CPU AMD|PH II X4 965 3.4G AM3 RT

Asrock has this memory on the list of compatible memory but its the 2nd time that I've got blue screens galore when I'm getting into some heavy gaming. I also heard a very annoying sound when it crashed. Like I said this is the 2nd go round on the same exact hardware. I had Newegg RMA everything the first time around thinking it was an issue I couldn't diagnose. I've also tried 2 different video cards with the same result. 1 different card each time.

Other Thoughts: Paid a lot of money for all this and I'm pretty disapointed in my first quad core experience. My Intel dual core still runs great and reliable, I expected the same from an AMD setup.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry that you are having difficulties. We will be happy to assist you with troubleshooting and settings on our support forums at the link below. There is a good chance that we will be able to get you running stable and avoid the need for any further inconvenience. Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM, Rebates Are a Scam

Pros: The RAM itself is great, runs at 1680mhZ 1.6v 8-8-8-24 1T without issue.

Cons: I'm knocking off 2 eggs for the whole rebate scam. It's been 20 weeks since I first sent in the rebate, and 16 weeks since it was approved for payment. Any requests to OCZ just lead to a big runaround, so don't bother even asking.

Other Thoughts: Have always liked OCZ RAM, so as long as you dont care about the rebates, I would say go ahead and get it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, our rebates can take up to 120 day to process after approval. We do not process rebates in-house, so your inquiries have likely gone to the rebate house. Please email and include your full name, address, product, and date and place of purchase. We aplogize, and quickly will look into your rebate and see that it is paid. Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsGood memory at a great price

Pros: Unbeatable price.
Nice and stable at 1600MHz.

Cons: This memory is meant to be supported by my motherboard (MSI 790FX-GD70) and the AMD AOD self-configuration utility.
Each time I load the profile from AOD my PC won't POST and I have to clear all the BIOS settings and start again.
If I enter the SAME settings manually into the BIOS it works with no problems. Go Figure!
Once it's up and running, it's very reliable.

Other Thoughts: This is my second set of this memory and I've had no problems with the first two sticks for about a year now with an AMD Phenon II 965 clocked at 3900 MHz.
I got the extra sticks to upgrade to Win 7 64 and I wanted to make sure I had compatibility with the first two. Also they were offered at such a great price and with an instant rebate from Newegg - half the price of anywhere else. Great free delivery too!

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't play nice with AMD 8 Series Boards

Pros: The autotuning feature would be great if the RAM would work.
Black heatspreaders look good.

Cons: Misleading AMD naming. Probably better suited for a i7 if you wanted to run dual instead of triple channel.

I purchased this low voltage 'AMD Black Edition' RAM hoping for great compatibility and stability in overclocking, but the whole 'AMD' label is kind of a misnomer.
I set up my machine to take advantage of UMA for the IGP, have had no problems with the G.Skill sticks I have now, but the OCZ RAM with both sticks running in dual channel the system became very unstable and would frequently put up the blue screen and go into a physical memory dump. OCZ doesn't put this in bold print, but the memory is rated for AMD 7 series chipsets, and seems to have some serious problems with the new 8 series. I'm running G.Skill now, same specs, and my machine hasn't crashed yet. If you have one of the newer 8 series boards, I would pass on this OCZ BE RAM.

Other Thoughts: My build:
ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB 3 Mobo
AMD Phenom II BE 965 OC'd at 3.6Ghz
G. Skill DDR3-1600 4GB
OCZ Vertex II 60GB
1TB Seagate Drive

5 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

Pros: Cool looking RAM, does what it claims. Fast, stable.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: AMD Overdrive software doesn't recognize the profiles for this ram on an Asus mobo with AMD 880G chipset. Not a huge deal this is still great RAM and works well at 1600mhz.
