5 out of 5 eggsFast USB3 Card reader

Pros: - Fast
- One cable connection.

Cons: - CF slot is finicky, be gentle and patient
- Expensive
- Need spare USB 3 header on mobo

Other Thoughts: Transferred photos from CF card at a rate of 141MB/S, that's not 600MB/s, but it's much better than the 30MB/S that I get from reading the same CF card with a USB 2 card reader.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Read everything I've tried.

USB 3.0

Has disconnectable USB B connectors on back and is an enclosed chassis so it works nicely either internal or external if desired.

Cons: Little pricey compared to the other available USB 3.0 Readers

Plastic chassis - (a con in my opinion)

Other Thoughts: Should be metal chassis not plastic for two reasons:

1) it is specifically advertised as a Kiosk grade reader
2)it's priced higher than most others that are actually made of metal

UPDATE 2/28/2016: 2 years later it is still going strong, consistently fast transfers and the unit has been working well with weekly use mostly SD an CF cards. Windows 8.1 pro 64, have not been using this under windows 10 yet, so can't comment on that.

The only thing that has proved annoying is the 'typical' use of an obnoxiously bright blue access light. It's piercing and is sooo 2001. I love case mods, and leds, but 300,000mcd blue spotlights are lame and should be banned from manufactured products. If someone wants something that bright they will mod it and swap leds. Next time I have the rackmount chassis this is mounted in out of the rack, I will be modding it to a soft diffused red led.

5 out of 5 eggsInitial Review

Pros: Super easy install, I used it in my CM HAF XB EVO case, used the ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT 3.5 to 5.25" adapter and the whole operation was tool-less

Easy to see card slots

Cons: Wish it had another USB 3.0 input

Other Thoughts: I shoot a LOT of GoPro footage so I needed a dedicated card reader, this fit the bill. Wish it had more USB 3.0 slots, due to the limitations of my motherboard I had to disable my 2 front USB 3.0 slots to install this, I do get the dedicated card readers as a plus but take one hit on a USB 3.0 input. So far so good, no drivers needed for Win7, and opening speeds seem decent. Time will tell how this device performs over the long run but so far so good

5 out of 5 eggslook no further

Pros: Works as advertised. I have only used the SDXC and the MicroSD, but the other slots show up as empty disks, allowing me to make the solid assumption that they work as well as the ones I have yet tested. Yes it does operate at USB 3.0 plug-n-play in my new x99 mobo setup running win 8.1.

Cons: SD card sticks out a bit when inserted, though not a big deal for me, ight bother some people. Cable included is a bit stiff, but thats minor as well.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with my purchase. I use it for mostly photo importing to edit in photoshop and it hasnt experienced any drop issues yet.

2 out of 5 eggsExcellent product, UNRELIABLE

Pros: This unit is FAST. Plugs are made with positive feedback. Cards are well aligned and can be plugged without concern of bending pins. The markings on the faceplate also make it easy to identify correct card slots, even in a dimly lit room.

Cons: I've had the USB2.0 version of this for years and it has been excellent and trouble free. I built a new computer and ordered the USB3.0 version in Jan 2014. I returned that in April due to intermittent disconnects. I was promptly sent a replacement at no charge. Now its failed again, May of 2015, and of course warranty is only 1 year. The SD slot no longer detects cards. The usb slot still works and the CF slot still works. The SD is the most important to me. Guess I'll have to look for a different unit. I still feel design is good, but reliability is poor!

2 out of 5 eggsBooo

Pros: Cheap. Many options. USB 3.0

Cons: Metal flap detached from somewhere inside and shorted device out after a few years of use. Used two USB cables instead of a USB mobo connector, so needed an annoying adapter than often came loose, since it was designed off-balance.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST OUT THERE

Pros: I have both of them the XM-37U and the PRO-57U I am running as my back up machine an ASUS A88X PRO (MB) and the A10 7850K (APU)
I flashed the bios to the latest and greatest and the one before this last one lasted only a couple of weeks and I couldn't figure out why suddenly the AFT XM-37U suddenly showed as on in the bios as it showed all the ports however it showed a yellow caution sign in "Device Manager" and no matter what I did it wouldn't stop showing the problem indicator. However the next bios flash CORRECTED THE PROBLEM
I have never had a problem with either of them and consider this the best CARD READERS out there because they are self powered via duel USB 3 hook up. and they have USB 3 showing on the face for a direct USB 3 hook up. I have USB 3 on board and routed to the top front of my V9 case but this gives an extra not to mention all the ports for all the cards. I love the 20 pin USB 3 (I have a 20 pin USB 3 HEADER on the mother board) so it doesn't take up a USB 3 on the rear of the computer or actually 2 of them because if you don't have a 20pin USB 3 inside on the mother board you'll either have to get a card to provide (PCI or PCI-E) to create the required two USB 3 inputs to plug the USB hook up cable to. Mine had a breakout in that the USB 3 20 pin connector was a separate connector that plugged into the motherboard then the straight forward USB 3 plugs plugged into it. I hope that helps. I will post this to the other one as well the XM-37U I have had them since 10SEP12 and they have never had a hick up except the 37 with the bios

Cons: I had a slight bios mishap referred to in the body of pros.
No clue why they discontinued the PRO-57U
odd since they are both the same
and who has or what case has a 3.5" floppy bay any more thankfully mine V9 did/does

Other Thoughts: drive bays very handy still for input and output

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: designed to have usb 3.0 inside and out. solid construction.

Cons: simply was not compatible with my motherboard or it was a defective unit. it was recognized in bios and windows 7 but took caused my system to hang/take forever to turn on. took at least 1 min for my CF card to be recognized. was not able to open any image fiiles (granted these were large 30-40MB RAW image files) as my system froze.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat and versatile

Pros: Extremely versatile. SDXC support and no adapter needed for Micro-SD(HC/XC). Multiple card-reading at once. Excellent internal/external design.

Cons: USB 3.0 pass through does not work from MB USB 3.0 header.
