5 out of 5 eggsCucial Ballistix Sport VLP ROCKS!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Low profile- good for SFF and HTPC builds, good price and super cool looking.

Cons: None that I have found. It's not the fastest low profile DIMM around, but still pretty fast.

Other Thoughts: I noticed that this RAM has received a lot of negative reviews; I almost have to believe that it some sort of a hoax. I have purchased many of the Sport VLP modules 4gb and 8gb in various combos and they have all been good. I myself have been very happy with the product.

Thank you Crucial for the sweet product, you guys are still one of my faves.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Small accommodates large CPU cooler.

Got it for $29.99 a few weeks back, total price for 16GB was $120.

Cons: Would not work with a ASrock 970 Extreme4 or Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z. Other RAM kits worked on them so It appears to be something with this particular RAM.

3 out of 5 eggsCauses system restarts when operating at 1.35v

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: This RAM is inexpensive.

Cons: I bought two of these sticks to use with my ASRock 970 Extreme4. One arrived DOA (I RMA'd it and will receive the replacement soon), the other has been running okay. However, after many hours of troubleshooting (and even replacing my motherboard and PSU thinking that they were the problem) I was still encountering system restarts with no blue screen when the machine was performing heavy tasks (specifically gaming). I went into BIOS and manually changed the setting from 1.35v to 1.5v and now my machine is having no trouble. Other users here have found the same setting solves their problem - if you're not having luck, try manually setting the power to these sticks to 1.5v in BIOS.

Other Thoughts: My motherboard is 1.35v compatible but this RAM performs much better at 1.5v (which is the industry standard anyway). Set it at 1.5v and hope you don't get a DOA stick.

If you can get away with it and not get delivered a DOA stick and if know enough about BIOS to set these guys to run at 1.5v then it could be worth a buy due to the price.

I just hope this review saves you all the time I spent trying to figure out this problem. Good luck!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please contact us directly so we can help. We have received reports from customers and confirmed a compatibility issue with specific modules in some AMD systems. The issue isn't specifically the voltage. We do have two Intel XMP profiles at 1.35V and 1.5V on these modules for the widest compatibility as some boards don't fully support 1.35V correctly. The modules are fine in most systems including all Intel based platforms.

Please contact us at 1-800-336-8896 (option #2) or online at www.crucial.com/help for assistance. Our telephone support hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. MT, Monday – Friday.

We can work with you to confirm your configuration details and provide a working solution for you and arrange shipping.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced to date. Because we fully stand behind our Crucial memory and storage products, we will work to restore your confidence in us.

Regards,
Crucial

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy!!!!!!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Looks cool.

Cons: D.O.A.

Other Thoughts: This is the first and last time I will buy anything from Crucial. I currently have GSkill memory in my PC, Mushkin in my laptop and have built numerous PCs for friends with Kingston. RAM is notorious for D.O.A. but after buying about 20 sticks, this is my first D.O.A.

5 out of 5 eggsNOT DOA !!!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Overall, the price @ $29.99 and Crucial name! Have this coupled with a Samsung 2gb low profile module (also 1.35 V) installed on an ASUS P5G41T-M LX board with a Pentium dual core E5700. Mobo recognized module with memory voltage set to "AUTO".

Cons: None to speak of!

Other Thoughts: Don't/Can't understand how customers receive bad/doa modules in todays market. Have been playing around with computers since the mid-90's and have never received any bad/doa modules.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the Most Honest Equipment...

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: It finally works...

Cons: The company wasn't very honest.

Other Thoughts: I've had this memory since I built my rig earlier this year. Now; from day ONE, this RAM has not worked. It caused blue-screen random reboots. First thought: Defective. Too lazy to RMA, so it sat on my shelf. Pulled it out - out of curiosity and began to fidget.

This RAM boasts a 1.35... WRONG, lol. This same model, only not low-profile mind you, is a 1.5. I went into my BIOs and set it manually. I put it to 1.5 and DDR Memory Voltage to 1.75.

This memory runs FLAWLESS now. Moral of the story. Be honest with your product. You've had nothing but returns. Shame on you.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. These modules are designed and tested to run at 1.35V (the standard height modules are not). The challenge is that many systems do not fully support 1.35V, it depends on the manufacturer of that board. In order to ensure the greatest compatibility, these will work at 1.5V as well which is the JEDEC standard for DDR3. There are two XMP profiles to try if your system supports them (1.35V or 1.5V), they will ensure the best performance in your system.

Please contact our support at 1-800-336-8896 or online at www.crucial.com/help and we will assist you with your setup if needed. Please have your system configuration and BIOS information available when calling.

Regards,
Crucial
