Hungry for more? The new m4 SSD built on the success of the award-winning, wildly popular Crucial RealSSD C300 solid-state drive offers mobile and desktop users scorching-fast read and write speeds, groundbreaking SATA SSD computing, and unparalleled performance for the dollar.

The Crucial m4 incorporates Micron's industry-leading 25nm NAND flash technology in a 2.5" form factor. It also supports the SATA 6Gb/s interface, opening up the data path between the host processor and the SSD, and resulting in improved overall system responsiveness, including faster boot times and application loads. The Crucial m4 SSD reaches read speeds of up to 415 MB/s, a 17% increase over its predecessor. Ideal for client computing, Crucial m4 SSD provides benefits for notebooks, desktops, workstations, and industrial applications, including low power consumption, lightweight construction, and resistance to shock and vibration.

  • newegg Latest and Greatest Designed for client computing, the Crucial m4 SSD delivers faster boot and application load times for mobile and desktop users alike. Low power, lightweight, and durable, it empowers high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, advanced controller technology, optimized NAND management, and the second-generation SATA 6Gb/s interface. Together, that technology dramatically improves data transfers for bandwidth demanding applications.
  • newegg Memory Experts Delivering on the highest quality based upon Micron’s leading-edge NAND media, the Crucial brand of SSDs has long been synonymous with reliability and high performance. And because Crucial is part of Micron, the m4 was bred and built entirely in-house. So you can rest assured you’ll get one of the highest quality products available—from the company that knows memory.
  • newegg SSD Advantages SSDs provide many benefits over traditional hard drives. You’ll enjoy reduced power consumption, less heat generation. Because they have no moving parts, SSDs are quiet, more lightweight, and they’re rugged and reliable even in the most demanding operating environments or temperature extremes.

2 out of 5 eggsIssues

Pros: Quick, well priced.

Cons: Incompatible with two motherboards in a row. First motherboard wouldn't always recognize the drive unless powered off first. Second motherboard, the drive keeps spiking to 100% activity for, locking up the computer. This thing actually sat as a paperweight for quite a while while I used a mechanical drive due to the issues I was having. I just didn't want to deal with this drive's issues.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because of the good reviews, but it seems like there's a lot of people having issues with this drive. I wish I would have purchased a SSD from a different manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after a couple years

Pros: Fast

Cons: The drive just stopped working. Kept on giving errors and now the thing doesn't show up at all on any of my computers.

Other Thoughts: I thought the SSD were supposed to last. But just like anything else these days, it doesn't.

1 out of 5 eggs11 Months - Failed

Pros: Got it at a great price. For day-to-day operations it worked perfectly.

Cons: 11 Months in I have received a warning that it is failing. Hope my backup completes before it kicks out. I have too much to do.

Other Thoughts: This was the second SSD I've bought and I was ALWAYS fearful of their fail rates since we read about them so often. Hard to decide if I want another.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 8 months

Pros: Fast

Cons: Unreliable, even with 70H firmware. This is the 3rd (out of 4) M4 SSD that's failed without warning on me.

Crucial has been good about RMA, but this is a waste of time.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent, while it lasted!

Pros: Fast SSD! Had no problems in the first year and six months.

Cons: Experienced locked drive, then hanging, then it kicked the bucket.

5 out of 5 eggsworks like a charm

Pros: Using this in a Lenovo W520 and haven't had any issues. I imaged the original 500gb drive with apricorn.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Had to update firmware, which is always a prudent thing to do so it's not a con.

5 out of 5 eggsKeep up good work, Crucial

Pros: My 3rd M4 and all 3 are still working fine!

Even the old firmware seems to be pretty good (but it is better to upgrade anyway - the upgrades are super easy unlike some other ssds)
Silent (my 4 year old C300 generated some high pitched noise in headphones).
Easily survived ~3000 reboots (due to a bug in bios the computer continuously kept going to sleep and back online for a few days)

Cons: is it ever going to catch up with HDDs in $/GB?

1 out of 5 eggsDrive failure, just under 1yr light usage

Pros: Effective and efficient. Performance was as expected.

Cons: Total drive failure approximately 11 months after installation. Used as an OS-and-Steam drive in a light traffic personal computer. No longer recognized by BIOS on any port.

Other Thoughts: Despite light usage, I loved the idea and the performance, right up to the point where it stopped working. Still willing to give SSD a chance, but probably not Crucial.
