Pros: it's fast

Cons: it's junk. totally unreliable. with this SSD as your system drive you will start to have random blue-screens and reboots and have no idea it's caused by the SSD unless you keep up with the CRUCIAL forums. It's a known issue that is supposedly addressed by a firmware update. But it still did it after the firmware update, and only got worse over time. Then one day the BIOS stops detecting it and you can't boot up at all and your data is inaccessible.

Other Thoughts: Don't use this SSD for anything CRUCIAL.

Pros: Product worked at times. Randomly turned off and usually had to wait a few minutes to a few hours for it to power back up. Happened on 2 motherboards, 2 power supplies, and 2 Windows 7 installs.

It was fine when it worked. Nothing to write home about but it also wasn't bad.

Cons: My problem is with how they supported it. For me, it's not about the problem but what you do to resolve it. Support is what Crucial severely lacks.

It started when I spoke with the support. After I explained everything I did to troubleshoot it he began to suggest things he thought I needed to do. All of those things I already did which makes me think he wasn't even listening. After that he told me the drive probably failed because I don't let it idle enough. He said whenever an SSD is sitting idle it begins to do some garbage clean up and because it's my OS drive I should be booting in to the BIOS and letting it sit for 4+ hours every couple of days to prevent this. I have never read that anywhere and that paired with some of the other things he said made me feel like he didn't really know much about the product.

Finally, he told me I could RMA it but he doesn't recommend it. He said that even though I have ~8 months left in my warranty I should try using it for the next 12-18 months to see if the SSD is really the problem. He told me even though my warranty would be expired they will still support me because "you can just tell them Crucial Support said it was alright". Yeah right!

I set up the RMA and they send about 5 emails. The first 2 were "Thanks for resetting your password" (I don't even have an account). Then they sent me an invoice saying the replacement will ship soon as well as having another few paragraphs of gibber-jabber. They also had sent another email that had several paragraphs of stuff but ~75% seemed redundant. A week later I realized that even though it said it was shipping soon I needed to put a credit card on hold. This is fine and I did see it buried in the novel they sent me but I feel the information should be a little easier to read to avoid minor issues like this in the future.

I then call up, give my RMA number, and credit card info. The guy says we're all good and I should expect it in a few days. I wait 2 weeks because it's the holidays and I figured they were slow (+ I had better things to do than hold their hand). When I email them they say I need to give them my CC info to process the advanced replacement. I tell them I did and they say they never got the call. I forwarded them a screenshot of my call history as well as the detailed history (call time/time, length, etc) and they claim they still do not see a record of it. They even said they look through the entire call log for the time my screenshot showed.

I called in with my CC info and they processed it (email confirmation). I would like some compensation (maybe a bigger drive?) because this took a month in total but they really didn't care to hear about that. They just apologized and said they usually have great support but I have yet to see it.

Other Thoughts: Buyer beware that it might pay to spend an extra ~$15 for a company like Intel or Samsung who is more grateful for their customers.

What's worse is I had just bought a Crucial M500 about a month before this happened. Had I know this is what I had in store should the drive ever fail I would have avoided them.

4 out of 5 eggsStill going strong after 2 years of use (crossing fingers and knocking on wood)

Pros: It's an SSD. System speed and start up times are noticeably faster compared to more traditional, disc-based hard drives.

I remember performing lots of research when I originally bought this SSD. At the time (mid-2012), the Crucial M4 product line had what seemed to be the least failure rates when compared to other SSD brands.

My M4 SSD is still functioning to this day (crossing fingers and knocking on wood).

Cons: The price. I remember paying $200-$250 for this SSD a couple of years ago. Posting this review on Newegg, I see that the price for this listing has not changed much since I bought it.

Considering that I just recently bought another Crucial 250 GB SSD for $110 (a different product listing than this one), I consider the pricing for this specific product a serious rip-off. Thus, I am subtracting one egg.

Other Thoughts: People who are commenting about their SSD failure rates need to understand that all SSDs fail eventually. And when they fail (trust me, they will), they fail in such a way that renders the entire device useless.

I believe SSD technology still has a long road ahead of it with regards to lifespan improvements. Those interested in making the jump to an SSD need to understand that no matter the product/brand you choose, it's very likely that the SSD will fail within a 4-year time frame. For those unwilling to accept this risk, I recommend just sticking with a traditional hard drive.

Pros: Very fast, booted up my computer in about 10 seconds or so.

Cons: This drive outright failed before its 2 year mark. Blue screens of death started occurring, and eventually it outright failed. Can't even boot from it anymore.

Other Thoughts: I don't recommend getting this product, nor buying anything from crucial. Their customer support is horrible, they make up "excuses" as to why they can't provide a replacement. STAY AWAY!

Pros: Low price, fast.

Cons: This SSD has only lasted me a little over a year before it started to fail. Speed tests in windows index factor have decreased 2 points over the last year. It also will not load in bios more often.

Other Thoughts: Not a good SSD. DO not Buy!

Pros: Super fast. Never have had a problem with this drive.

Cons: Little small to load all my games...got to pick and choose what games to load.

Other Thoughts: Obviously go for the larger one now, but when I bought this they were a bit high priced.

Pros: I just bench marked this drive a few days ago with CrystalDiskMark and its read/write speeds are still as advertised. This is after almost 3 years of daily use. Firmware upgrades were always painless. If you buy one now it should come with the latest firmware.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Obviously buy one of the new newer M500's or MX100's now. Great alternative to Samsung Evo.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD - no problems in over 3 years of onwership

Pros: Fast and reliable - what else could one ask for in SSD?

Cons: smallish size now

Other Thoughts: Been using this SSD for over 3 years now of daily use and as a main OS drive. Have upgraded firmware couple of times(painless process and didnt even have to reinstall OS ) and it never gave me any problems while always being as fast as they get pretty much. It was my first SSD and since then i have purchased over 10 different SSD(once you go SSD its very hard to go back to HDD of even hybrids for anything but pure storage needs) and while some were faster i still use this one as my OS drive in my main desktop. Will be buying larger size(since 128Gb is kind of limiting nowdays) M4 when prices drop a bit lower.
Nothing but good for this little speedracer!

Pros: It's an SSD.

Cons: This drive worked for while before giving me issues. I read that my mobo might not support SSD as it was an older system. Went back to my RAID0 x 3 and put the M4 off to the side and forgot about it as I could live without it.

It's been a year and I have a new system as a home server. I can now verify it's a bad drive. It has the latest firmware and has this disconnect issue. Programs stop responding before Windows itself crashes. After the reboot the M4 isn't even listed in the bios. I have to cycle power, set it as a boot device again, and I'm up until it happens again. All drivers, bios, and SSD firmware up to date.

I wish I RMA'd or got a refund. It was expensive then. An unreliable drive is as useful as War.

Other Thoughts: Don't take my word for it. A little searching and you'll see this is quite common with this drive.
