1 out of 5 eggsBroke

Pros: It worked for a year and a half...

Cons: After said year and a half, it began acting wonky, then, a couple days later, quit functioning altogether.

Other Thoughts: Crucial has been very unhelpful and so far blocked my efforts to engage the warranty.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for 2 years... then...

Pros: Awesome speed
Awesome boot times
No problems for the first two years....

Cons: Random lock ups and weird errors on windows 7 such as...

A BSOD with "STOP: 0x00000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8008BB7B30, 0xFFFFFA80008BB7E10, 0xFFFFF800031E88B0)"

Sometimes it will boot.... sometimes it won't. Long story short.... this SSD was to blame.

I purchased this in late 2011, and it just started to die. 2 eggs for the 2 years

Other Thoughts: This was great until it just completely up and died on me one day while playing a game. Oh well I guess....

Pros: Fast loading, ran solid.

Cons: with 11 months on it and all my storage on a second drive it started restarting and not loading the OS.

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: It had killer speed. Booted w7 in under 15 sec. 3 years ago it was the best priced for the size.

Cons: After 3 years it just started giving me the same crash and reboot to bootable disk request others have been getting.

Even though its an over priced dinosaur now, its numbers are still quicker than most new ssds.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded to a Corsair FORCE GS. Its a little quicker, and definitely better priced

2 out of 5 eggsWorked fine... Then bad sectors

Pros: Worked great/fast for a little over two years.

Cons: Purchased in late 2011. A little over two years later (normal use), windows started randomly crashing (BSOD) and on reboot, the computer would say no physical disk found. Further reboots would then work as expected.

Worried that the hard drive had problems, I ordered a new SSD and used Clonezilla to clone the bad SSD to the new one. At 98% complete, clone failed and Clonezilla alerted that the source disk had bad sectors. Tried again and clone worked. Just glad to be rid of this drive.

Other Thoughts: I gave it two stars because it worked fine for a bit and at least died gracefully enough I had time to plan for it... though only worked for two years, so I wouldn't recommend this SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsShort Lifespan

Pros: fast, price was good at time of purchase, easy installation

Cons: short lifespan, had earlier firmware problems too

Other Thoughts: A little under 1 year into use it started not wanting to boot and sometimes wouldn't appear in bios. I updated the firmware and was good until now, a little before the 2 year mark. Currently I'm getting random lockups (win7) and sometimes doesn't appear in bios again upon reboot unless I let it set for several hours. This was a red flag for me so I decided to get a different SSD before this one died for good. I was able to successfully image the drive, so no data loss (thank goodness!) I'm not even going to mess with trying to warranty it since it's only 64gb; straight to the trash it goes after wiping. I never want another of this series of drive again even if it's a free replacement. 2 Eggs since it wasn't DOA and worked great for almost 2 years 24/7 - even with the earlier problems. Can't give it more since it didn't even live until the warranty period was up.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 2-1/2 years

Pros: Fast

Cons: This drive worked great as a Windows 7 boot drive for two and one half years. The computer started having an occasional BSOD then the drive failed completely. The master boot record is corrupt and the drive is unusable.

Other Thoughts: I'm buying a larger replacement SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsSudden death after 2 years

Pros: Ran very fast, and completely trouble-free in my Linux desktop-- up until the day it failed. Gave a significant performance boost to random I/O over the mechanical SATA disk it replaced.

Cons: Died after 2 years, 3 months of service (installed August 2011), while the computer was under light use (editing text, browsing the web, and playing music-- minimal disk activity, mostly read-only).

The failure mode was such that all stored data quickly became inaccessible. On trying to access one particular file, the SSD would completely freeze up, taking itself off the SATA bus until power-cycled (a reboot wasn't enough). It then worked normally for a few minutes more, until attempting to read the same file again caused an identical failure.

Running bad-block scan from a recovery CD showed no errors up to that first bad spot, after which EVERY SECTOR tested bad!

One or two power-cycles later, the drive stopped responding at all, and could not be brought back-- motherboard BIOS would hang forever probing its port until the SATA cable was physically unplugged.

Fortunately, I had a current backup, and so lost only a tiny amount of work, but the way in which it failed-- about 10 minutes from perfect operation to "bad secotr in one file" to 100% gone!-- was quite disturbing, suggestive of a possible design flaw in the controller logic, or perhaps the part of flash storage used to track sectors remapped for wear-levelling.

Other Thoughts: I had made an effort to minimize unnecessary writes to this drive, hoping to extend its lifetime (e.g. no swap file or partition, filesystems mounted with -noatime, downloads, caches and othertemp files directed to ramdisk or mechanical HD), but apparently to no avail... unless that helped me get 2 years out of rather than the 12-18 months other reported.

Drive is still within its 3-year warranty period, at least. Hopefully I won't have any trouble with the RMA process, but I'm reluctant to trust a Crucial drive with anything important now. May throw its replacement in my gaming machine and try an Intel SSD on the main workation.
