5 out of 5 eggsSolid ssd

Pros: Fast and dependable when used with proper cooling, still running strong after 2 years in my gaming system.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: had purchased 2 of these units to run in raid 0 for gaming system, removed one to give too my sister for netbook after hard drive failed. after 6 months the ssd failed due to poor ventilation. (aka kids playing with net book on beds and other poor areas for cooling off electronics) Failure wasn't manufactures fault at least for that unit

2 out of 5 eggsLike others said, this drive will die

Pros: I loved it initially. Increased boot-up with Windows 7. I bought this SSD to replace my WD Raptor which died.

Cons: Tried to boot up computer last week and got the blue screen of death. Then the bios wouldn't recognized the drive. I tried the Crucial instructions and bios now sees drive, but Windows 7 cannot install on the drive. At this point I consider it a lost cause and ordered a new SSD from a different manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: I hope SSD technology is better and more reliable a couple years on.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: SSD speed, reasonable price at the time

both working after 3 years of constant use

Cons: one of them had to get updated a couple times before it stopped crashing; still seems to have an issue once in a great while

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW

Pros: Was Fast while it worked

Cons: Like many other reviews that have been coming out of the woodwork about this SSD, It eventually failed on me. I was starting to experience strange freezes in windows 7. The computer would completely freeze for about 15-20 seconds then work perfectly fine until the next time I powered the computer on and it would do it again randomly. after a few days of troubleshooting and thinking it was a RAM problem I noticed this SSD was no longer being recognized in windows after the freeze occurred. I unplugged it from my machine and never had another freeze.

At the time I was using it as a small drive for video recording, but 2 weeks before I was using it as my Windows boot up drive. Glad that I purchased my two new Intel SSD's when I did.

Other Thoughts: These Freezing issues and failures seem to be a widespread thing with these particular Crucial SSD's. If I were you I would take my money elsewhere. Im rather surprised they are still for sale on newegg. Ridiculously expensive for the amount of storage you are getting at this point.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked

Pros: Worked great for 3 years as an RST cache.

Cons: When it started failing, I'd get random lockups in Windows 7 and it would occasionally disappear from the BIOS.

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware - vanishing SSD

Pros: During sales, fairly cheap for its effectiveness. Otherwise massively overpriced, however.
That's all.

Cons: Incredibly vulnerable to vanishing from BIOS and boot list during any sudden power loss (shutdown from overheating, power outage/surge, etc). While this is a known issue for all SSDs, the Crucial M4 is known for having this issue more so than almost any other I've seen.

Other Thoughts: I've seen this HDD vanish from boot list and require some intense fiddling with DOS utilities as well as disconnecting/reconnecting of SATA cables. It's a massive amount of headache and stress for the few seconds of boot time it shaves off regularly.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this drive. It will die on you.

Pros: Fast

Cons: Unreliable. This is my 3rd RMA from crucial. Every drive I have received works fine within the first few months, then roughly at the 1 year mark, it starts to cause system freezes, BSODs, the works. Talking to technical support is useless. They tell you to try a different sata, update firmware, and power cycle. Once you do all of that, they run out of ideas. Skip the pain of going through RMA's and replacement drives. Get a different brand.
