2 out of 5 eggsNo firmware for new AM3+ motherboard

Pros: Was a good solid drive on my old motherboard. Had good speeds.

Cons: I bought a new AM3+ mother board that has only SATA 6Gb ports. The firmware on this purported 6Gb hard drive instructs you to use only SATA 3Gb for installing the firmware. That would be a good plan....except I didn't buy a M/B with 3Gb and 6Gb SATA. Why would I? This makes this very expensive drive worthless. You can and I did enable AHCI in Windows 7. I also turned on trim and disabled superfetch and prefetch.

Other Thoughts: My next SSD will not be a Cruical. If this unsupported drive was years old, it would be one thing. I've had it a year! Come on Crucial, get off your derrieres and write some new firmware for this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsSpinning disks last longer

Pros: small, lightweight, easy to install. Bandwidth/throughput was fast -very nice.

Cons: It died at 13 months. Not a heat problem, no sign of issues, it just quietly passed away. At least with an ailing disk I sometimes got indications/noise that they were going. This just went "poof".

Other Thoughts: SSD NOT a cure all for backing up requirements. Just because it doesnt have moving parts doesnt mean it won't fail too. They do and this one did. Very disappointed

2 out of 5 eggsBSOD

Pros: Was crazy fast when it worked

Cons: It destabilized on me and bios & firmware updating didn't help. Called Crucial and they're RMAing it. I'm hopeful that the new one will work properly, but in the mean time I'll have to reinstall my OS, Adobe and other programs. You also have to fiddle with a lot of setting to get SSDs to work so I'm out a lot of time and effort with more on the way.

Other Thoughts: Crucial did give me a hassle free customer service so while I can't vouch for the product at this time they deserve some positive recognition for service.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 9 months of light use

Pros: Very fast performance

Cons: Not reliable. It failed with no warning after 9 months. The BIOS of my laptop doesn't see the drive.

Other Thoughts: Crucial seems to know about problems where the drive stops being recognized and wants you to repeatedly power the drive up for 20min then disconnect for 30 seconds in the hope it will come back to life. If this is expected behavior for the drive, they need to work on their controllers and firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Reliable

Pros: Great speed and easy installation. I'm running this as my primary boot drive. Windows starts up fast, software installations are fast, and I haven't had a hiccup yet.

Cons: Price tag is still high.

5 out of 5 eggsSoooo FAST - I LOVE it!

Pros: Boots in about 15 seconds, and would be faster if it weren't having to wait on Microsoft's lovely little graphics LOL. Then it would likely be about 10 seconds or less. First install of Win7 was 17 minutes. Have been using this since 03/2011 for the OS and a few other programs that don't let you choose your directory (grrrr). For storage & some other programs I keep everything else on a 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s hard drive.

Cons: Sort of pricey for the storage & no mounting bracket included for internal HD bays. Am I the only one left who thinks that things should come with all the accessories you might need instead of having to purchase separately? :o) Not enough to dock an egg for though since the product itself is excellent.

Other Thoughts: If you have little to no patience (like me) and you have the funds to get this, you should...

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Awesome

Pros: This was my first SSD, and I almost didn't get it while I was building my PC last year. I'm certainly glad I did. While I don't have much experience with solid state drives yet, my first one has proven to reinforce my confidence in these types of hard drives. Nearly a year so far, and going strong. I used it as the boot disk on my rig, with all the core system & frequently used software installed onto it. My computer completely boots to my desktop in 10 seconds flat; it's glorious. In fact, that's the #1 reason I would suggest buying a SSD.

Cons: Aside from the common complaint concerning cost and capacity (yay unintended alliteration), I think you are still getting what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Use one of these suckers as your boot disk if you've got the money to spare.

5 out of 5 eggsSlick as a Babys Bottom

Pros: Hitting a stable 350mb/s with Marvell 6gb/s controller on ASUS Rampage III Formula board. The Marvell controller on this drive matches perfectly with the Marvell controller on the motherboard. Using Diskeeper to Optimize this SSD about every 2 months of use.

Cons: Installation of Windows 7 is a Bi-Polar experience. You must set overall BIOS to IDE first, then select ACHI in the Marvell 6gb/s section of the BIOS, then you are good-to-go with the installation of Windows 7 and this Crucial C300 drive.

Other Thoughts: Using Diskeeper allowed me to gain an additional 5GB of drive space after 3 months of use. This program cleans up the unused sectors that have worthless information; therefore, it saves the drive from having to write over this info to use the space again for something valuable.
