Dell Inspiron 700m upgrade
- Pros: I added this memory to my existing 1 GB, for a total of 2 GB of memory for my Dell Inspiron 700m. It now has the maximum memory for this laptop. Works great!
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I also changed the hard drive from newegg, I got the Western Digital WD3200BEVE and put XP Pro SP3 back on, quite and upgrade from the original 30 GB HDD! If you are doing this to your 700m/710m, make sure you visit support.dell.com to upgrade your BIOS and IDE controller driver with WD firmware patch first.
Dell Inspiron 1000
- Pros: Easy to swap out 256 MB ram card and my Dell Insiron 1000 recognized it right away. Manufacturer said 512 MB was max RAM, but my control panel - systems information now shows 1.18 GB after swapping cards....sweet!
- Cons: Non yet. I bought the Inspiron 1000 5 years ago because it was cheap - $499 with upgrade to 512k ram and 3 yr warranty and I thought the celeron would run cooler and last longer. I use it a lot every day and suffered with slow application speeds. Not with this upgrade! I hope it won't run a lot hotter replacing the 256 MB card with this 1 GB card
- Other Thoughts: Huge difference in application performance. I'm a realtor and use Office 2003. I rely on Outlook and my personal folders are large. Now all these programs run well. Newer versions of acrobat were agonizingly slow and now very responsive. All Windows apps are flying!
One stick died, after a year.
- Pros: 1. Works. A nice upgrade for a typical OEM PC such as an HP or dell or gateway.
2. Crucial let me do an RMA on a dead stick. I am glad to see them standing behind their product. Keep up the good work, Crucial, and you'll keep doing business.
- Cons: 1. One stick died, after a year of use. These were in an OEM gateway computer, non-overclocked. I know better than to try to OC something like this anyway lol. Stick must have just died on its own. However, Crucial let me RMA it, so not all bad.
2. They WERE pretty cheap. What has happened to RAM prices? What a freaking ripoff. I know, I know, as types of RAM age, it goes through different price points and price cycles. But COME ON. What should be cheap, decent RAM has well over doubled in price since I bought it. Sheesh. I bought this stuff for $24 shipped. now what is it... like $60?? Please.
- Other Thoughts: Ok if you can deal with a HUGE price increase, on something that is only aging and becoming more and more obsolete. Kinda the exact opposite of what makes sense. And kinda the exact opposite, of what any consumer or potential customer, is looking for.
