5 out of 5 eggsG3

Pros: It works! Nice size, not too small. Great reads and writes for my usage of it. Excellent price.

Cons: No LED Indicator. End cap seems like it wants to fall off when it is on the rear of the device. Not worthy of an egg drop, though.

Other Thoughts: Really fast shipping!! I love Newegg!!

5 out of 5 eggsYellow Submarine

Pros: 1st it does have an LED. A very evident one. After I ordered it I got to fretting about this, so I called Kingston. The pre-sales guy said it did not have LED. I said several reviewers claimed it does. He then called engineering and after a long wait, he came back on and assured me that it has no LED. Maye some do and some don't. ATTO and Flash Drive Tester give a write speed of 10 and read of 20. This is quite good considering its price. The cap locks on, and needs a squeeze sideways to release it. The corrugated sides give a bit of traction for in and out.

5 out of 5 eggsAffordable Flash Drive

Pros: 8GB is a good size for taking your files on the go. The read/write is fast enough for the price.

Cons: None. It does what's intended to do.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Dirt cheap. 8gb. Didn't lose all my data when it failed. Other two work fine still.

Cons: One of three drives I bought slowed down to a glacial pace after about 4 months; to the point where World Community Grid would give errors that the data directory was missing.

Other Thoughts: I am using these as system drives for Linux Mint 12 on some old boxes in order to run WCG 24/7, which makes frequent reads/writes. The drive didn't fail and lose data but did slow to the speed of 3(!) IOP/s for the 4k write test using CrystalDiskMark. Read speeds are still fine but I'm leery of putting important stuff on it. I'd say for the abuse it's been put through, this is a good performing (although slow, in absolute terms) budget drive. If you need performance, check out the Patriot Xporter XT.

1 out of 5 eggsPossible NAND change?

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Slow to write, less then 5MB/s

Other Thoughts: I don't know if this model always had the same NAND chip but it seems like they changed the NAND flash chip in the middle of the production run.

We are using over 40 of these and they were fine at first but then after getting a new batch they all started failing and having write errors on multiple platforms. After taking them apart I found they are using 64Gbit 24nm TLC NAND chips instead of MLC which is why they are so cheap. I think most of the failures are due to an incompatibility with the TLC NAND or some other underlying problem with the Toshiba TC58 disk controller with the TLC.

ATTO benchmark gives me less then 4MB/s write and 8-15MB/s read speeds

Pros: Has worked well for programs, music, photos, and files. No hesitation and good price.

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: It's so so. I like kingston, but this thehnologi is old.

Cons: I have it for almost 2 months never had problems, but it's kind of hard to use. I will recommend a new kingston tehnology.
