1 out of 5 eggsnot very good

Pros: used to work

Cons: stops working after very little light usage.

Other Thoughts: I bought this expecting it to fail quickly, but hoping it wouldn't. I've never had a card reader that hasn't failed within a month and sadly, I probably never will because manufacturers can't be bothered to put in the extra money to make them nice.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works with 64 GB SDXC and MicroSDXC cards, but with a caveat (in the Cons section below).

Cons: No updated documentation regarding functionality with SDXC and MicroSDXC cards. The reader does in fact function with the XC format, but *only* in the SD slot. The MicroSD slot will not work with anything larger than 32 GB. This is somewhat expected since the MicroSDXC cards hadn't been widely available at the time of purchase (6/15/11 here from NewEgg).

Other Thoughts: Many people complain about the short USB cord, but it does have its purpose. It is short so that it can fold into the unit for storage, and the extension is included free.

The purpose of the sliding mechanism is to protect the cards that are inserted into the device. Those cards do stick out, and so the unit can be slid back into its housing in order to protect the cards from being hit or broken from any impact. This is exceptionally useful if you keep the card in the device while traveling and do not want to risk damage to the card.

The sliding mechanism also protects against insertion of cards when one does not want anything inserted (it is very difficult to insert a card with the unit hidden inside the housing).

At least this offers protection for inserted cards. My Transformer Prime TF201's card slot leaves the MSD card jutting out of the side of the tablet, very vulnerable to damage or removal.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is meant to do.

Pros: Had what I need. Can Use both SD and Micro SD at the same time.
Does not flood my computer with a bunch a drive letters. Portable

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I use this to replace a internal one I bought about 4 years ago. I like this one better. When you pop a card into it, it only give one drive letter instead of flooding "My Computer" with 6 to 9 empty drives. Very nice and portable.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job, problem-free

Pros: Insert a SD card, and contents are listed onscreen in a few seconds. Works with Linux. Copying files from cards and other operations happen flawlessly. Includes a USB extender cable.

Cons: The design is a little quirky. The main body of the device slides back and forth in the outer shell, and the USB connector is on a cable of only a few cm and requires extender (F to M) cable to connect to anything in a practical way. The captive cable does not stow in the device unless the middle part is slid back the other way.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried all the card types.

1 out of 5 eggsDifficult to put SD card in - My Class 10, 32GB SD card is damaged after a year of use

Pros: It has a light to show when cards are mounted in windows.

Cons: It has put cracks into my Class 10 32 GB card that I use for video. Something is misaligned in the reader, and instead of returning it or buying a new one, I just kept using it, because it mostly worked. This is a hard judgement call to make, because so many cheap things are basically poorly made - what do you do, return them all? Return broken eggs to the grocer?
