5 out of 5 eggsSolid CPU

Pros: Solid CPU, stable temps and good speed

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is a great CPU at a good price point. I have run this with FSX for over a year with no issues. Temps stay within normal range and CPU seems to be stable with a slight overclock.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat chip, but too hot for me

Pros: 3.5ghz stock speed is nice and fast, 8 logical cores for great multitasking, 8mb of cache is great, and an unlocked multiplier is nice for overclocking.

If you can keep this chip cool, its very very fast!

Cons: Taking one egg off because of temps, otherwise, its a great chip!

Idle temp = 30-33C
Mild load (30-40%) = 50-60C
Full load = 100C in less than 20 seconds, no matter what cooler or thermal paste I use.

This chip gets hot. I mean really hot. The stock heatsink can't keep the stock speed under 100C even after three re-seating attempts with new paste and time to let it break-in.

I also tried a Corsair 100i water cooler all-in-one system and the chip still tops out at 100C. I tried re-seating with new paste twice and break-in before I used Prime95, but it still jumped to 100C instantly.

Other Thoughts: I looked into it more and the CPU die is not soldered to the IHS. This explains the jumps in temp when put under heavy load (Prime95). Even after 20-30 seconds on a water cooled system, the CPU jumps to 100C and de-clocks and undervolts itself to prevent permanent damage.

My Phenom II X6 at 4.5Ghz is water cooled with a Corsair 100i and even at full load it won't break 38C after 12 hours, but that die is soldered to the IHS.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: Absolutely no problems at installation, NOR at use. Not a big tweaking fan, so in a regular (stacked) system, it has performed above my expectations.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Somewhat low power consumption!
