The Intel Pentium processor family based on Intel Sandy Bridge codename is the right choice for building an ideal basic desktop system. The introduction of the latest generation 32nm Hi-k manufacturing process technology brings improvements to the Intel Pentium processor over the previous generation Core microarchitecture.

Moreover, Intel HD Graphics and the memory controller have been integrated into the processor, providing great graphics performance and higher memory bandwidth. Intel Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem while the revolutionary Intel Microarchitecture accelerates overall system performance across your applications through energy efficiency. These Pentium processors are ideal for more traditional basic desktop systems with the power to run applications simultaneously and efficiently.

  • newegg Intel Microarchitecture Based Dual-core Processing The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 32nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel HD Graphics Intel HD Graphics with dynamic frequency up to 1.1GHz delivers smooth HD video playback and mainstream 3D gaming without the need for add-in video cards or decoders. It also supports a wide range of display connectivity options and is dual display capable.
  • newegg Integrated Memory Controller The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels, offering stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production, which means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs.

5 out of 5 eggsA little CPU That Can

Pros: Cheap. Plows through basic tasks with aplomb. Comes with a cooling solution and factory warranty.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Not every PC out there demands a roid-raged Quad Core and a high end GPU. Set this CPU upon a good MicroATX board and a healthy dose of RAM, and you're good to go for everyday stuff like websurfing and Netflix, et al.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little processor for an HTPC

Pros: - Cheap

- Intel 3000 Graphics handle most common HTPC tasks without a single complaint. 1080p video @ 10mb/s? Not a hint of stutter or lag anywhere.

- Speedy little processor. Hooked up to an SSD, nice boot times.

-Virtually silent with the stock heatsink. I had to lean in close to actually hear if it was on or not.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I know it's silly, but I hooked up my HTPC with a small SSD. Even with this processor, it still boots up in a matter or seconds.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little processor

Pros: This is a great little processor for the money. Currently has been in a HTPC for 6 months an no problems. The processor is not powerful by any stretch of the imagination, but it is perfect for a home theater PC. Plays back HD content without breaking a sweat.

Cons: None. Not as powerful as an i3 etc. but it is a great performer and I knew that when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: This is a great processor for a home theater PC or a basic computer used for surfing the web and word processing. Anything more than that and I would step up to an i3.

5 out of 5 eggsGetting me to learn toward Intel

Pros: *Low Power
*Does the Job very well
*Runs 24/7 @~32.5* C (@1.6GHz) w/ cheap zalman cooler
*I use it in my home server
*This was my first build of an Intel CPU, and will continue using these beauties.

Cons: *Doesn't make me breakfast
*Doesn't mine for gold
*Doesn't sing me to sleep

---My point is that it does everything you pay for + more, but do not expect something ridiculous for the price

Other Thoughts: I use to use AMD due to price range but recently started to realize how much power they consumed just being on.. I am not scaring you away from AMD CPU's as I have had a lot of nice computers / still do with them, just you may want to try an / a few Intel's before you start to say AMD is better..

The server runs 24/7 usually clocked to 1.6GHz by windows for power saver, and only using 20%-30% of the CPU- While I am running teamviewer, tixati, 6 HDD's (15TB+), burning media, transferring files, etc.

Just a great CPU overall!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: If you need a cheap 1155 CPU, this is a good choice, even has integrated graphics if you're building a very cheap system.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsCAUTION!

Pros: It's a processor. It's fast I guess.

Cons: Will not fit in a standard LGA 1155 socket, specifically on my Gigabyte mobo. Not sure who's at fault here, but I had to loosen(evenly) the 3 star screws that held the clamp down on my mobo to allow the processor to sit in. On the north and south sides, this processor fans out. Where it fans out creates 3 tiers of height. The 2nd fanned out tier will not sit correctly in standard LGA 1155 sockets. But this issues is easily fixed by fiddling with the screws. Only stumped me for about 20 minutes :)

5 out of 5 eggsGood workhorse

Pros: Great processor for light-medium level tasks.
Perfect for office computers and light gaming.

Runs cool, under 65 C at full load on stock cooling
Fairly efficient vs. comparable AMD processors.
Supports VT-x for light virtualization

Cons: Will bottleneck your video card during heavy gaming.
No hyper-threading (dual core only 2 threads)

2 threads isn't great for heavy virtualization or multitasking

Other Thoughts: It made a great interim processor while I waited for Ivy Bridge to drop.
