Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 920 has quad cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without need the slightest effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core i7 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller With the integrated DDR3 memory controller, the Intel Core i7 enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L3 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L3 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost technology Intel Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Core i7 enabled with HT Technology deliver performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsStill runnin'

Pros: Been running this thing with the factory OC and factory air cooler since 2010. One core runs a little hotter(3-4C) than the others. Oh well. Have run it with a higher clock, but I am too lazy to keep the heat sink clean enough for that business.

Countless hours running full factory OC speeds(2.87GHz). No troubles.
First processor I was ever pleased with straight out of the box.
I would buy it again.

Cons: Factory cooler needs cleaned often if you have multiple pets/kids.

5 out of 5 eggsStill chuggin'

Pros: Owned since it came out 6 years ago. This thing is rock solid. I've upgraded my gpu, my ram, hard drives... in fact this is pretty much an entirely new computer. Except the brain. I noticed a few other reviews talking about some hard core overclocking which I'm gonna try to do. Maybe extend its usefulness a few more years. I've been running a solid +25% overclock but I've seen up to +58% ;) Great cpu. It's done more rendering, capturing, and editing than I can count.

Cons: 130W is a lot of power to draw -_-

5 out of 5 eggs5 years later

Pros: 5 years later I still have no need to update my processor. I've changed graphics cards twice in the past 5 years for my gaming PC. But I'm still running this processor overclocked on air at 4 ghz. i've had it this overclocked since day 1 and its still going strong.
I swear this has got to be one of those rare items in processor history that is somehow still relavent and usable after this long.

Cons: zero, zilch, notta

5 out of 5 eggsBest CPU Investment ever

Pros: Overclockable as hell. Still Relevant 5 years later (with overclocking) OC to 4.2Ghz on a Corsair H100 water cooler. Had it up to 3.95 and VERY Stable on AIr Cooling before.

Running Multiplier at 21.0, FSB 200, CoreV 1.50, PLL 2.10, DRAM 1.6, 9-9-9-24 (Corsair DDR1600 @1604Mhz) = 4199.99 Mhz.

~45 C while gaming, Prime95 ~tops out at 88 C but is stable for days with 8 threads running at 100%

I'm running Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein TNO on this puppy with 2x GTX 770s in SLI and it screams (Although Watch Dogs does have some optimization issues the developer needs to work out with a patch).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I paid a little more back in 2009 to "Stay ahead of the curve" I didn't realize how "ahead" this chip was when it came out. I still am having a hard time justifying an upgrade to new mobo and chip, since this thing is still chewing up every game I throw at it.

5 out of 5 eggsThe CPU is still being relevant

Pros: I have been running the CPU at 4 Ghz for about 5 years! It is still running strong and has not fallen far behind in performance vs. the newer comparable CPUs.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsNever had a cpu this long stay up to date

Pros: First of all I bought this 5 years ago as other reviewers have done and I am amazes at how well it performs. When I built my pc in 2009 with 12gbs of ram I was using it for gaming and work (photoshop) - Now that 2009 build using this CPU is my fulltime work computer that renders 2-5gb photoshop files for large and grand format printing and it still feels like it runs circles around my clients using newer computers or the latest macs.

I have NEVER owned a processor that didn't make me feel like it belonged in a museum after 2 years. This thing does not feel one bit dated. If there were more current motherboards for this chip I wouldn't hesitate to reuse it. Intel really built a solid performer with this one.

Unlike other reviewers I have enjoyed this chip from day 1 without overclocking it. It's stock speeds have treated me well and have never seemed to require more. I do still play some games on this pc, but most loss in frames per second would be a video card issue as this chip can still handle any modern game with ease. Now I need to go find a way to keep using this chip after I replace this computer!

Cons: By todays standard the lga 1366 is no longer easily obtainable.

Other Thoughts: Depending on your needs there is no reason to upgrade from this chip if you still own it. If gaming is your thing and you plan on upgrading components including your video card I suggest picking out the video card first and seeing how well your old system performs before upgrading to a new mobo/CPU. If you're not on a budget go buy another I7 as they have proven their selves. I have given out nothing but compliments on this chip and being a computer owner of both AMD and intel for years It's hard to think about ever trying another AMD chip after getting used to this quality and longevity. Even if AMD does have a chip considered just as good intel has really earned my loyality as long as these chips stay this good.
