Fast, takes everything I throw at it. I am not overclocking it, it's fast enough.

Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 920 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without any extra effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core i7 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller With the integrated DDR3 memory controller, the Intel Core i7 enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L3 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L3 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost technology Intel Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Core i7 enabled with HT Technology deliver performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsThis guy is mentally ill

Pros: this guy is a mental midget:

Pros: Probably best processor out there in my price range. The price is justifiable by the Nehalem Tech, which almost doubles the speed of this thing. Thats why it is $200 extra for this thing, when you only seem to get 0.27GHz more.
Cons: None with the CPU but some with intel.
Don't use an auto overclocking or designed for overclocking motherboard, It will void your warranty and that will stink. Thats because those boards have "Built in" CPU upgrade, which is really just a hidden overclocking mechanism. I used an ASUS board and then tried an MSI board. Both kept making the warning appear. This is something I wish the manufacturer would make a list for something just to tell people that this board might void the warranty.
Other Thoughts: This is an awesome chip with an even better warranty. Thanks to Intel I got a new CPU with a refreshed warranty, and I bought one of the boards they recommended. If you want a CPU for work this might be the best.

Cons: 1

5 out of 5 eggsEggscellent CPU!

Pros: I have owned and used the i7 940 CPU since they were released in 2008. It has been absolutely rock-solid at stock speed or overclocked! The reason I wanted to write this review is because Newegg has made this great CPU available again and at a great price too! After it was first released, it disappeared and wasn't offered here for quite some time. When I initially purchased it, I did not write a review; but now (since its' back) I have.

Cons: None! Buy it; especially with the current great pricing - I paid $569.00 USD for mine in '08 - you won't regret it! Also (if you're going to O/C), buy an after-market cooler.

Other Thoughts: I have for the most part, kept this CPU overclocked for gaming purposes - It has never failed to satisfy my system requirements for an excellent gaming experience!

5 out of 5 eggsDon't use certain boards if you like Intel warranty.

If you want a CPU for work this might be the best. I use it for my job now and allows me to be up to 3x more efficient than my co-workers still using Pentium. I only play flash games during breaks so, I can't really tell you about games or it's compatibility with them. However, I don't think it's wise to spent $500 on a gaming CPU, because it's not helping you bring in money.
This is a great CPU, just make sure you ask intel about recommended motherboards before you buy one.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Awesome processor

Pros: Fast.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: For the price this is by far the best processor you can buy. I personally don't think dropping 1000$ on a processor is a smart decision, and this one is in the perfect price range if you're still willing to spend a hell of a lot on a new gaming rig. Runs anything I can throw at it with ease, running max settings on any game 2560x1600. Couldn't be happier, and I personally don't think its worth it to buy anything better than this.

5 out of 5 eggsIts fast!

Pros: 2.93GHz + Intel® Turbo Boost Technology = 3.2GHz.
Disabled Hyper Threading and its still fast!

Cons: 0.27GHz faster than the i7 920... ...but x2 its price!

Weeks later the i7 950 went out! Darn!

3 out of 5 eggsSTRANGE

Pros: Very good to work with installation wise. I was a bit apprehensive at the pricy mistake if I goofed up and cracked it. It runs well except for a strange error and blue screen (on very limited frequency) I am getting it may need to be exchanged becuase they can't figure out what it is but it has to do with power in one of the cores only.

Cons: PRICE OF COURSE! Lack of easy to access assistance...It is running at a higher speed than the box and doc's state and I have even gotten a warning from Intel's diagnostic software that I will void my warranty for overclocking it as it believes I am doing. I am not!

Other Thoughts: Intel needs to make assistance for issues above simple fixes available visually so people can refer and visually see a source for services.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU, junk heatsink

Pros: Runs at 3.8GHz without raising voltages, with Thermalright TRUE Copper heatsink idles at 27C, maxes at 62C during Prime95 stress test. Room ambient temp 20-22C.

Cons: Stock heatsink is garbage, but we know that, the price could have dropped by now. 950 came out a week later, eh...

Other Thoughts: I also have 920 that runs at 2.6GHz but warmer and I was wondering if 940 is worth the extra cost, but heck, why not. Neither CPU will run at 4GHz without significant increase in voltages and I don't like that idea, I'm not a hard core overclocker I want speed and stability. So I'm happy with 3.8GHz, Photoshop CS4 chews through 200MB files without hiccups. Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, 12GB OCZ XMP RAM, CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsJust get one!

Pros: Fast, stable, and did I say fast....

Cons: It is a bit pricey but it is worth is if you want to stay ahead of the curve.

Other Thoughts: Many people say to get the 920 and overclock but I need stability so I opted for this one. You can still overclock but who need more than this other than bragging rights..
