Fast and solid

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Perfect bootup from the first time I powered it on. This CPU is fast! I thought that my OC'd Core2 Quad was fast, but this gives a very nice boost.
Cons: The stock heatsink is a little clunky to install, and the fan is not silent. I'm waiting for a good aftermarket CPU cooler.
Other Thoughts: Make sure your DDR3 is rated at 1.65v or lower. The memory controller is integrated into the CPU (vs the chipset for previous generations), and if you crank up the DDR3 voltage, you could blow your CPU. Asus Rampage II Extreme, 6 * 2GB GSkill DDR3 1333 1.5v, BFG nvidia GTX 260 MC OCX, 2 * WD Black 1TB 32MB cache in Raid 0 stripe, LG BD/HDDVD drive, Vista 64. Heatsink/fan has a larger footprint than 775 heatsink/fans, so I cannot reuse my Tuniq from my old system.

Fast Processor!!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Fast, takes everything I throw at it. I am not overclocking it, it's fast enough.
Cons: Absolutely none.
Other Thoughts: I tried using the stock thermal paste that came with it. It was idle at 45C. Removed it and used arctic silver and not I'm idle at 36C. The problem was the stock paste did not spread out evenly.

This guy is mentally ill

white Reviewed By: on 1/29/2010
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat low - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: this guy is a mental midget:

Pros: Probably best processor out there in my price range. The price is justifiable by the Nehalem Tech, which almost doubles the speed of this thing. Thats why it is $200 extra for this thing, when you only seem to get 0.27GHz more.
Cons: None with the CPU but some with intel.
Don't use an auto overclocking or designed for overclocking motherboard, It will void your warranty and that will stink. Thats because those boards have "Built in" CPU upgrade, which is really just a hidden overclocking mechanism. I used an ASUS board and then tried an MSI board. Both kept making the warning appear. This is something I wish the manufacturer would make a list for something just to tell people that this board might void the warranty.
Other Thoughts: This is an awesome chip with an even better warranty. Thanks to Intel I got a new CPU with a refreshed warranty, and I bought one of the boards they recommended. If you want a CPU for work this might be the best.
Cons: 1

Eggscellent CPU!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I have owned and used the i7 940 CPU since they were released in 2008. It has been absolutely rock-solid at stock speed or overclocked! The reason I wanted to write this review is because Newegg has made this great CPU available again and at a great price too! After it was first released, it disappeared and wasn't offered here for quite some time. When I initially purchased it, I did not write a review; but now (since its' back) I have.
Cons: None! Buy it; especially with the current great pricing - I paid $569.00 USD for mine in '08 - you won't regret it! Also (if you're going to O/C), buy an after-market cooler.
Other Thoughts: I have for the most part, kept this CPU overclocked for gaming purposes - It has never failed to satisfy my system requirements for an excellent gaming experience!

Don't use certain boards if you like Intel warranty.

If you want a CPU for work this might be the best. I use it for my job now and allows me to be up to 3x more efficient than my co-workers still using Pentium. I only play flash games during breaks so, I can't really tell you about games or it's compatibility with them. However, I don't think it's wise to spent $500 on a gaming CPU, because it's not helping you bring in money.
This is a great CPU, just make sure you ask intel about recommended motherboards before you buy one.
