good unit
- Pros: Fast and cool running.
- Cons: Nothing I can think of.
Expensive and almost worth the extra
- Pros: 1. OC'd to 3.2 GHz full time and stays cool 36 to 41 on all four cores at idle with Artic Pro Cooling 7 Freezer
2. No issues or extra vcore needed for 3.5 Ghz but I keep it to 3.2 GHz for slightly cooler overclock temps
- Cons: Expensive but needed it for video work. Won't go with Intel next time but will try AMD quad core for better value. For the price of this, I could have got a combo deal AM3 mobo and Phenom II X4 955 which OC's to 3.7 GHz very stable
- Other Thoughts: Only editing DVD rez movies now but when I go HD I hope this CPU gives back on my investment!
Handles everything!
- Pros: It hardly slows down and when it does it's not due to the CPU (memory, harddrive, i/o, etc). Needed it to run virtual machines while doing other stuff, or render 3D while in photoshop. Needless to say it does the job! (make sure to set core affinity to only 2 cores for your 3d app process in task manager or other apps will slow down to molasses)
- Cons: It doesn't render instantly in 3ds max.
- Other Thoughts: Got it for half price, definitely a worthwhile upgrade from my E2180. Had it for 6 months and it's still purring along fine. Haven't tried overclocking it yet but there doesn't seem to be a need. If you run VM or two power hungry apps that each needs 2 cores, this is it! Still a much better deal than buying cpu/ram/mobo just to get the i5/7's.

Introduction
Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9400 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9400 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 6MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.
Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.

 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
