5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly overclockable

Pros: Keeps up with current i5 processors in performance. Is highly overclockable and stable even when using a small all-in-one liquid cooler.

Cons: Does not want to work with my GTX 770.

Other Thoughts: Oc'd to 5GHz with the following:

Multiplier: 50
BLCK: 100.0
Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Offset Voltage: +0.190V
CPU Load-Line Calibration: 100%
PCH Voltage: 1.050V
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.840V
Enhanced Halt State(C1E): Auto
CPU C3 State Support: Disabled
CPU C6 State Support: Disabled
Package C State Support: Disabled
VT-Technology: Disabled

Runs Prime95 for 8 hours before temps got too high and shut itself down. During normal use it's perfectly fine. Using a 120mm all-in-one radiator with a push-pull fan configuration temps are 27C - 68C respectively.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply still a top choice 2 years later

Pros: It just flat out gets the job done and then some

Cons: None, of all the modern generations of intel i core processors its the most balanced and its durable .

Other Thoughts: Well i'm not doing in superhardcore overclocking on mine , i use a mid level ATX asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard so i figured a flat 4.0GHZ with a hyper 212 evo cooler and this thing should last a real long time. well at 4.0GHZ it screams i can only imagine what i could push it too. And memory utilization this thing is a beast. I currently run Gskillz ripjaws 2133 4x4 16 gb of ram in the system and it loves the ram and based on the synthetic benchmarks ive done on it utilizes the ram fully . I like many chose the sweet spot setup for the build i bought a $187 at the time 2GB EVGA sc GTX 660 graphics card. I went on newegg found a intel cherryville 520 64 gb sata III ssd refurbed for 90 dollars. Bought one of those 600GB sata III velociraptors to pair with the ssd and use as primary storage drive. I did make sure i bought i good dependable power supply for the system i still got a good deal on it to. Bought a M2II seasonic 750 watt bronze PSU , Payed about 79 dollars after rebates on it. I ran passmark 8 benchmark on the system WOW for $1050 rig i could not be more impressed , Solid middle tier system i know some of those top system people have like 7-8K in those systems and to know that for 1/8th that i'm 55% of the best system thats been benched on the site top build system rank was 8236 , mine came in at 4474. This 2500k is a Gem Intel comes out with these , their legacy standouts . I remember the old e8400 dual core how well its held the test of time , its still a viable option for a lot of people, and i still play one with in a old overhauled rig i have. The Q6600 , wow just get it close to 3ghz and its still a good little powerhoouse and we're talking 8 year old tech. When intel came out with the core architecture in late 2005 early 2006 they found the tech to leave amd in the dust. Now granted i have some amd builds as well , but their Phenoms , the phenoms are the only amd cpus past present and future that i will acknowledge and play with. But to get back to the point i was going to make The Sandy bridge i5 CPUs are one of those we'll look back as a Gem and should keep a long term value

5 out of 5 eggsi5 2500K 3.3GHz Sandy Bridge

Pros: This CPU is great at multitasking. It is handling all I give to it. I have a CPU monitor and it barley gets pushed past 40%. Its a great CPU and I would buy another. Intel did a fine job on the icore series. The visuals on the built in grapics are great also. The stock cooler is not bad either. It can keep up stock but I wouldn't recommend OC with it.

Cons: Cost. good stuff isn't cheap

Other Thoughts: I would love to test some parts

5 out of 5 eggs1 Year Review

Pros: Super fast
Incredibly low temperatures
No need for me to even OC

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As a light gamer this has been the perfect CPU for my build. With a 2GB Geforce GTX 660, 16GB RAM, and 600W power supply on a Z68X-UD3H-B3 mobo, this is a dream come true all at a great value.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid as a rock

Pros: I have owned this cpu for over a year now with an overclock of 4.5Ghz @ only 1.26v. Runs at 50c Max w/ my corsair H110 on Prime95 Blend torture runs 25 hrs straight.

-Does very well in games
-Overclocking is amazing
-Runs very cool and uses low power
-Keeps up with current CPUs in today's market
-Should be able to keep this one for a while

Cons: My only con is that it does not support PCI-E 3.0. However, I have not seen any convincing benchmarks to show any real benefits of PCI-E 3.0 over 2.0 yet. Even w/ my GTX 780 I still get really great FPS in games.

Other Thoughts: This is probably the best and most long term cpu I've ever owned. This was definitely worth the price I paid 2 years ago (around $220 I think). I'm planning on keeping this for a while.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU

Pros: 2 years with an overclock of 4.5ghz and still feels just like the day I installed it. Amazing CPU, just wish I had gotten a better board for overclocking so that I would be able to take this thing to 5.0ghz.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wish that I would have known that the 1155 socket would become obsolete a year later so that I could have gotten a better board to overclock this thing as far as it could go.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh quality

Pros: OC ability has to be mentioned first. 4.7GHz easily achievable and stable with the right motherboard. 4.5GHz is what I kept the chip clocked to most of the time over my 3 years of ownership. It never gave me any trouble while paired with an average water-block. Temperatures were always amazingly cool, at max I would get temps in the mid 70's C. I loved this chip!

Cons: If used with gaming in mind it Sand Bridge so no PCI Express 3.0 support. This was the reason I very recently upgraded to the 4770K. I also upgraded my GPU to pair the new 3.0 capability. When I compared the performance of the two chips with the new GPU (GTX 770) the results were very close. 3-4 FPS max. I see a difference when benchmarking and video rendering - I7 Hyper-Threading technology at work. In the end no cons - this chip stands up to the test of time very well. Compared to my latest I7 chip the results are very close.

Other Thoughts: Outstanding chip!

5 out of 5 eggsStill rocking!

Pros: Achievable steady 4.8GHz on air at lower voltage than most need to reliably sustain that speed, scaled back to 4.5, which is the CPU's sweet spot for performance gains/GHz. Combine that with a Zalman 9700LED fan and temps stay at or about 24c-28c idle and < 58c at full loading on each core on World Grid Community, gaming load 52c, prime load 54c.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have it set up to run 1.6GHz idle , while hitting 4.5GHz under load. More stable than a 10ton rock buried 100ft deep in Iron. You just need a motherboard that is stable without all the drooping.....lol
