Are you a leader of the pack hunting for monster performance? Well the hunt ends here! With four execution cores, the Intel Core 2 Quad processor blows through processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments and makes the most of highly threaded applications. Whether you're creating multimedia, annihilating your gaming enemies, or running compute-intensive applications at one time, new quad-core processing will change the way you do everything. Pioneer the new world of quad-core and unleash the power of multithreading.

The Intel Core 2 Quad processor is at the center of today’s most interactive and content rich software experiences. The evolving set of threaded multi-media applications, including digital content creation, will shine as users are able to complete tasks faster. Game play can achieve even greater visualization and realism as tasks such as artificial intelligence (AI), physics, and rendering can be distributed across each of the four complete execution cores and run in parallel.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers twice the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Q6600 7 year old B-Day!

Pros: Today is its 7 year old B-day on the same Motherboard I bought it to put it in for the first time. D975XBX2. Overclocked it to 2.99 Ghz 5 years ago and still at that speed because it is rock solid!

Cons: Was never able to get it to be stable at 3.4 but eh....

Other Thoughts: For how long this chip has lasted and still keeps going on its current clock speed I will defiantly buy an Intel again once this thing dies if ever!

5 out of 5 eggsIntell really does last

Pros: I've had this processor since 2008. I can't beleive it's still running like its new. handles everything without issue. easily the longest lasting part of my desktop. you bet your sweet tush when this one kicks the bucket im getting another intel. I've even overclocked it to 2.66 ghz (3.00ghz for a while but it wasn't nessessary), and I do alot of heavy gaming.

Cons: None. Never a single issue all these years.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best Early Quad Core Processor

Pros: One of the earliest Quad Core processors. Good price for the performance. Longest lasting processor I have ever owned. Even the Intel heat sink and fan are quality parts.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I created this review six years after this processor purchase date as a tribute to this beast. If you are looking for an old cheap workhorse then feel confident in purchasing this even used. I actually gave a PC with this processor away. It will still have no issues handling all office related tasks and newish games.

5 out of 5 eggsStill works!

Pros: Is still fast enough for everything we need to do on our home computer. After upgrading to a solid state drive a couple months ago, this computer feels almost as fast as my new i5-3560k system. It also overclocks to 2.8GHz or so but I'm running on stock.

Cons: None whatsoever

5 out of 5 eggsStill Kicking

Pros: Was fast then, is still fast. Yes, you can get a way better one now but I've had this since 2008 and it still runs no problems.

Cons: Slow compared to i7

Other Thoughts: I'm going to use this until it stops working. It is fast enough for any game I've played so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU

Pros: I purchased this CPU in 2008 and it is still serving me reliably in 2014. The Q6600 is easily the longest lived gaming CPU that I've ever owned.

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsStill rockin 6 years later.

Pros: Like the others here, I've had this little chip in my main rig for about 6 years now, and it's still tearing right along. I can still run the newest game in high/ultra settings, and all I've upgraded since this system was built was an SSD, Radeon HD 6870, and Win8. It's been overclocked to 3.4+Ghz with a Zalman 9700 led cooler for the entire time, and the thing is reliable as ever.

Cons: I have seen some SLIGHT hiccups in processor intensive games. The most noticeable was Planetside 2, when there were hundreds of players in the same are in a zerg attack. This was a pretty extreme case of CPU intensive gaming, so I can accept that.

Other Thoughts: Like others have said, I'd gladly nominate this chip for best processor of all time. It's the most solid piece of computer hardware I've ever owned.

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse CPU

Pros: I got this CPU in 2007- it's been running pretty much non-stop ever since.
Still runs everything beautifully seven years later.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: This CPU has never overheated (though I haven't tried overclocking it), it's run with multiple hardware configurations without any problems. It's been on the same motherboard for seven years and not once have I seen even a small lapse in performance.

Love this CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: Running strong for just shy of six years now. I've replaced all other system components two or three times around this CPU.

About a year ago I noticed my computer was running really slow and hot. The heat sink had come unstuck after moving and the CPU was throttled back to keep temps at 95C so it wouldn't fry. Quick trip to the store for a replacement heatsink fan and back in business. Thank you, Intel engineers, for not letting my CPU fry itself.

Cons: None.
