  • newegg Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Kicking

Pros: Was fast then, is still fast. Yes, you can get a way better one now but I've had this since 2008 and it still runs no problems.

Cons: Slow compared to i7

Other Thoughts: I'm going to use this until it stops working. It is fast enough for any game I've played so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU

Pros: I purchased this CPU in 2008 and it is still serving me reliably in 2014. The Q6600 is easily the longest lived gaming CPU that I've ever owned.

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsStill rockin 6 years later.

Pros: Like the others here, I've had this little chip in my main rig for about 6 years now, and it's still tearing right along. I can still run the newest game in high/ultra settings, and all I've upgraded since this system was built was an SSD, Radeon HD 6870, and Win8. It's been overclocked to 3.4+Ghz with a Zalman 9700 led cooler for the entire time, and the thing is reliable as ever.

Cons: I have seen some SLIGHT hiccups in processor intensive games. The most noticeable was Planetside 2, when there were hundreds of players in the same are in a zerg attack. This was a pretty extreme case of CPU intensive gaming, so I can accept that.

Other Thoughts: Like others have said, I'd gladly nominate this chip for best processor of all time. It's the most solid piece of computer hardware I've ever owned.

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse CPU

Pros: I got this CPU in 2007- it's been running pretty much non-stop ever since.
Still runs everything beautifully seven years later.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: This CPU has never overheated (though I haven't tried overclocking it), it's run with multiple hardware configurations without any problems. It's been on the same motherboard for seven years and not once have I seen even a small lapse in performance.

Love this CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: Running strong for just shy of six years now. I've replaced all other system components two or three times around this CPU.

About a year ago I noticed my computer was running really slow and hot. The heat sink had come unstuck after moving and the CPU was throttled back to keep temps at 95C so it wouldn't fry. Quick trip to the store for a replacement heatsink fan and back in business. Thank you, Intel engineers, for not letting my CPU fry itself.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsLegendary

Pros: I got this cpu when I made my first build as a young teenager about 6 years ago. I have a the G0 version (but unfortunately have a high vid). Since 2007, its been overclocked and under-clocked and had all kinds of torture tests. Today its still running at 3.4ghz with the original motherboard (ASUS Maximus Formula). I even play BF3 and Metro Last Light with decently high settings at 1080p. I use it everyday for college stuff, watching movies, gaming, etc. Its getting old and is no where close to the i5s and i7s in terms of perfromance, but I will never forget the good times. I'm seriously sentimental about this processor haha.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: My current system:
Q6600 @ 3.4ghz @ 1.42v
Maximus Formula X38
4gb ddr2 @ 850mhz
ATI 5770 crossfire
Seagate 500gb x 2 in raid 0

5 out of 5 eggsStrong Performer, Long Life

Pros: This thing just keeps running strong, after almost 8 years. I used it for a long time as part of my gaming computer, and now my wife uses it for digital art and it's still running strong. It's still using the original mobo I bought with it, an Intel P35DP. There have literally been no problems with it and, if my wife hadn't needed a computer, there's a large chance I'd still be using it. No need to replace it.

Cons: Discontinued which is a shame as a budget minded system builder with a need for performance could find it with this.

Other Thoughts: Can still run games great when paired with a decent video card and 8 gigs of RAM. I've had power supplies and video cards die in this machine but the CPU has been an amazing, unfailing workhorse. Easily 5 eggs through the nearly 8 years it's been running.

5 out of 5 eggsBest purchase I ever made.

Pros: I've had this processor for over 6 years now and it's still going strong. Running it on a Gigabyte P35-DS4 with a GTX 560Ti with only 4 gigs of RAM. I've never had to overclock it, and have been able to run any game I've thrown at it.( And at decent graphics settings too). Money well spent!

Cons: None at all. Literally and possibly sadly the best purchase I have ever made in my entire life.

Other Thoughts: Will probably be adding 4 more gigs of RAM to my system and hopefully get another year or two out of it this awesome CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsImmortal

Pros: Reliable, still a good enough CPU for regular use.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Someone gave me a computer that was not working and was nearly going to the trash, but they gave it to me to see if I could fix it. Well, mobo was dead, but inside it housed this gem. Put it on another system and it still works. I'm running things like BF3 along with a GTS 450 also salvaged from that trash system lol. Maybe I'll get a better card later, but the point is that this processor is still alive despite being in a system that who knows what they poured in there, some black goo that messed it up, but CPU is still alive and well :D

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps on trucking

Pros: I've had this baby since release, OC'ed to 3.2GHz with an ancient FreezerPro that I used on my P4 once upon a time -- Temps stay below 40 for the most part.

It has survived 3 PSUs dying, 4 different video cards, and countless all night gaming sessions.

When this processor finally dies, I'm going to have it taxidermied it and mount it on my wall -- It'll have earned its place in Valhalla.

Cons: None.
