Are you a leader of the pack hunting for monster performance? Well the hunt ends here! With four execution cores, the Intel Core 2 Quad processor blows through processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments and makes the most of highly threaded applications. Whether you're creating multimedia, annihilating your gaming enemies, or running compute-intensive applications at one time, new quad-core processing will change the way you do everything. Pioneer the new world of quad-core and unleash the power of multithreading.

The Intel Core 2 Quad processor is at the center of today’s most interactive and content rich software experiences. The evolving set of threaded multi-media applications, including digital content creation, will shine as users are able to complete tasks faster. Game play can achieve even greater visualization and realism as tasks such as artificial intelligence (AI), physics, and rendering can be distributed across each of the four complete execution cores and run in parallel.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers twice the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsowned for over a year, superb

Pros: when i bought it, it was bottom of the line intel quad core, it outperformed just about every amd chip out there, o.c. out the box it had it at 3.0ghz stock cooling, upgraded to tuniq tower and its been at 3.3ghz for over a year, never reached 45c, that is a definite pro

Cons: costly, i paid roughly 300 for it about a year ago, now its worth 200 and imo, still worth 200

Other Thoughts: cost will be the main downside to all the intel chips, while they outperform amd's counterpart, they cost a higher dollar per performance tick than they should, but if you want the best, you'll pay the most

5 out of 5 eggsthe best chip i've ever owned

Pros: What an amazing chip.
handles everything i throw at it with minimal effort!
Blu-ray movies are like eating cake for this chip. in all attempt to max this chip out have failed. it take it all and keeps going. i had fear running on max, watching a blu-ray movie and installing programs at the same time and only used about 48% of the total cpu computing power.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Have it on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P board and works flawlessly

5 out of 5 eggsThis baby is a beast!

Pros: I traded my e7300 + 60 USD for a Q6600 G0 stepping and wow. My 3dmark score went up 2K when I clocked this at 3.6GHz. Right now I have it running happily at 3.825GHz with 1.568v in CPUz

Cons: It does not have the SSE 4.1 instruction set and runs HOT! This beast can hit 77C at 3.834GHz w/ 1.568v in CPUz on my S1283! That is HOT! I recommend not going above 71C but since I am a nut, I think I will just stay here

Other Thoughts: Never give an overclocking junky a new toy. I took this baby to 4.0. I managed to get a 3Dmark 06 out of it (mind you this is on air) and a validation on CPUz before it crashed :D

5 out of 5 eggsFast!

Pros: Took out the old duel core 2.8 and put this bad larry in there, and that is it. No additional setup required, this was extremely painless and it is one of the fastest processors I have ever computer with. This think is a beast at its factory defaults, I haven't even started to OC it yet either.

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: Go Intel!

5 out of 5 eggsQ6600 Best Budget OC

Pros: Best Over Clock CPU on a budget using LGA775 socket.

Can be clocked to 3.6 ghz (9x 400) with a motherboard that supports 1600 FSB, a better heat sink fan like an Arctic Pro 7 and 4GB of good pc2-6400+ RAM.

Very happy with performance!

Cons: One would think the higher speed Intel quads would do much better on OC but short answer is not really for money differences vs performance gains.

5 out of 5 eggsTHE BEST (BEAST?)

Pros: A beautiful chip. mine actually runs 90 degrees... fairenheit! oh yeah, its overclocked too! this thing handles anything and OCs up to 3.2 like a charm. its almost a shame that neweggs not selling em anymore. but alas, bigger and better things... like the i7 :D

Cons: none so far. stock cooler could be a little better maybe. but its a stock cooler. and somehow i dont remember putting on thermal paste. oh well XD

Other Thoughts: this chip is (was) well worth it. it has my vote for the CPU hall of fame
