New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Four “Piledriver” cores ensure rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 4-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability. Great performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 4 Piledriver cores The native 4-core desktop processor ensures rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU!

Pros: -Low price for performance
-Not over 100W
-able to process games easily

Cons: -went on sale lower after I bought mine
-stock CPU fan is loud compared to my friends CPU
-still high power consumption

Other Thoughts: I bought this CPU from a competitor locally because of the deal I got for the CPU and MB, but either way this CPU is a great option for someone who is looking to get into gaming or even if you want a good CPU to make thing happen seamlessly in your day to day tasks. I play WoW and with just the CPU and an old school GT 210 with only 2GB of RAM I was pushing 50-70fps on average settings. Upgrading to a GTX 750Ti and 4 GB of RAM and I am pushing 110FPS on high/ultra settings. Great CPU for processor heavy games.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes Everything I Want It To!

Pros: Everything. For a gen. purpose/moderate gaming chip, it goes beyond what I was needing!

Cons: Can think of none. Well, one: It is priced so closely to the 6-core FX-6300 why would anyone buy it now? Go for the 6300.

Other Thoughts: I got a bit raked over the coals on a certain forum for not going with the a more powerful processor like the 6300. Well, maybe I should have. However, the rig I built with this was replacing an AM2 8750BE 3-core proc machine, and this 4300 performs WAAY better than the 8750. It was like going from a Toyota Yaris to a Porsche Carrera 4!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Great processor, I've had it for a few weeks now and it runs at 15-20°c on idle and 40-50 on load. I'm trying to look for a program to over clock it to 4.0+ GHz right now, but even at stock it's running great.

Cons: If you can save another $50-70 try to get the 8350 because of all the new GPUs coming out.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good value as expected from AMD

Pros: Very quick processor. Just what the doctor ordered for my partner's ~$550 build I did for her. Installation was the easiest of any CPU I've ever installed. Took me longer to apply the thermal paste and remove the thermal paste from the stock fan than anything else.

With Arctic Silver paste & the stock fan, it's idling at around 37 - 42 C, which is fairly good considering that our condo's pretty warm right now.

Seems to be handling everything she throws at it with ease. She plays a few Steam games, which have run beautifully, and also uses a lot of Photoshop for her artwork.

As always, Newegg's shipping was extremely quick, all of the parts including this showed up in perfect condition, no dings/dents/tears in the packaging.

Cons: Maybe the power consumption? I knew this before buying, but 95W seems a tad high for a CPU based on what I know. (Could be off here)

Other Thoughts: Runs cooler than my i7 when I had to use the stock cooler for it a while back. The stock fan is actually pretty quiet (though it's still the loudest in the case). Even under load it doesn't get very loud, which is just what I wanted for this build.

5 out of 5 eggsGood processor

Pros: This comes with a stock fan and heatsink and an instruction manual. Not much to tell here really. CPU went in without any problems and seems to be working just fine at 3.8 ghz. :)

Cons: Took a min to find the marked edge of the processor. Once i found that, it was easy to install. No real cons to mention here. Running at 38C atm.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: I have used this processor in a computer in my garage where the temp gets 90-100 degrees sometimes. I can run my machinery and play games like Titanfall, and BF4 with no trouble.

Cons: None.
