New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Four “Piledriver” cores ensure rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 4-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability. Great performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 4 Piledriver cores The native 4-core desktop processor ensures rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

Pros: This cpu for the cost is well worth it, just wished this one I got overclocked higher than it did.

Cons: none really for what it sold for.

4 out of 5 eggsHeatsink size

Pros: it did as its supposed to do, its a great processor in my opinion. my issue was with the heatsink

Cons: to start I have an AsRock 970 Extreme3, i tried to put the stock heat sink on the processor and felt i was going to break the motherboard with the pressure from the clip. So i salvaged an old AM2 socket heatsink with a Cooler Master fan i bought in like 08 and it was a bit shorter but wider than the stock cooler. I am using this for my rig now.

Pros: worked great right out of the box

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: bought this item to replace my old processor when i tried to take the processor fan out to clean it and the processor came out with it and some of the pins got bent. the thermal compound i used that time was the artic silver ceramique and it was like it had turned to cement lol did keep the processor cool but still

4 out of 5 eggsWin some loose some

Pros: This chip seems to do everything I throw at it. Runs cool and with no lag.

Cons: This is the first AMD processor I have received that was defective. I have been installing AMD since 1995. The processor would need to be set up in the bios as always. After setting the bios and going to save and exit, the next screen would ask the same thing. I t was as though the chip would not retain the settings. Never have had that happen before. The $10.00 shipping return was kind of a savings killer. The Egg was pretty quick at getting me the replacement. Gotta give credit for that, After all, the Egg only sells these, they don't make them.

Other Thoughts: I am still trying to figure out how to manage the shipping methods. I saw this item leave the Indianapolis wharehouse, sit at fedx the next day and then head for 2 wharehouses in St, Louis .After that it headed to Champaign , Ill. I ordered on a Monday and finally got it on the following Friday. Mind you I only live 2 hours North of the shipping point. I don't favor my purchases traveling all those miles in the back of a truck. Normally when it ships UPS, I get my purchase the next day. Cannot plan anything outside UPS shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsGood CPU for the price, lack in performance

Pros: -Cheap entry level gaming CPU
-Plays most mid/high end games on high settings
-OCs easily

Cons: -Performance is slightly better than high end Phenom II chips

Other Thoughts: Mind you, I've only owned AMD CPUs in my time of building my own gaming computers.I owned this CPU for over a year and learned its shortcomings within a few months. Recently, with knowledge of its poor benchmarks, I have upgraded to an 8350. It's only a little bit more money for an approximate 40% CPU performance boost.

But, if you are on a strict budget this is not a bad CPU to start out with. I was able to play quite a few AAA tiles on high settings.

5 out of 5 eggsAMD Still Holding Thier Own

Pros: AMD AM3+ socket
Good stock cooler
Paired well with Asus MB

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried AMD in years and was really looking forward to trying an FX series. Bought for my sons new rig and paired it with a Asus M5A87 LE R2.0, runs great so far at stock clocks. The stock cooler was surprisingly good considering its size. Haven't OC'd it yet and may not need to since he only plays WoW, but still want to wait for everything to settle in and TIM to burn in good. My rig is ready for an upgrade, seriously considering trying an FX 6 core, AMD prices are hard to beat for what you get versus intel.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Review (of the AMD FX-4300 Vishera Quad-Core 3.8GHz)

Pros: + It operates.
+ Speed
+ Reliability
+ Price

Cons: - The fan that it includes is super loud (it being around 60mm or so)

Other Thoughts: With this processor, and 4GB of ram, this easily allows for a quick start up of the computer, as well as programs and videos, etc.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but not the best

Pros: Good Chip for beginners
Cheap if you buy a bundle deal
Great potential for budget builders. (Quad-Core)

Cons: Not many other than price

Other Thoughts: If you want a better deal go for an FX-6300 bundle. You will get a better Price to performance ratio.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, Snappy performance. Bang for the buck is definitely a big pro for this cpu.

Cons: I only got to use this cpu for about a week due to multiple board failures. Runs hotter than I would have liked to see from a 32nm cpu. Definitely needs aftermarket cooling solution.
