5 out of 5 eggshigh performer 7/24 close to 3 years or since July 2010

Pros: Two of these chips in ASUS KGPE-D16 SSI EEB Server Motherboard Dual... still on going since July 2010

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: AMD Opteron 6128 is a great server CPU. Hopefully AMD continue on making them. Do not compare them to Intel as one has nothing to do with the other. Go over the CPU layout and design, see how the the caches and the floats units are laid out, know how to take advantage of this CPU in a multithread environment.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning this since 10/21/2010

Pros: These have been solid performers for my application.
With Noctua Coolers NH-U120D0 A3:
CPU1=21c
CPU2=20c
These temps are at office room temperature of 72f-74f (What AC is set at)
I run these with ESXi 5.1 with 4 windows server VMs and 3 Linux server VMs.
It has been a perfect solution at bargin bin prices.
The budget was low on this project and these helped get us where we needed to be.

Cons: Low clock speeds are not great for some things.
For my situation this has not been an issue at all.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome / Very Responsive

Pros: Worked great in my Asus KGPE-D16. Ordered 2 from NewEgg and they matched perfectly (revision, microcode version, etc) which is ideal. The price was really great for the performance. Also, I use a lot of parallel software so the gains are huge.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: You should consider buying an SSD drive as well. The fast random-access will really pay off with this many CPU cores.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Processor

Pros: Price per core is great and power bill friendly.
Exchange, SQL, Domain(VM), and 2 other VM run on this as well as 12 drives for file serving.

Cons: Not fast, but I didn't buy it for speed.

5 out of 5 eggsabsolute tanks

Pros: A lot of power, cheap per core price

Cons: Low clock speeds, just built a duo 6128 and now realise that I probably would have been better off with a couple prebuilt 2600 XPSs' with aftermarket coolers (for my usage)

Don't hate on prebuilt, customer support and airmiles are nice.

5 out of 5 eggsGood price & processor

Pros: *Runs fine with sub-$30 G34 cooler
*Manages 5+ VMs (Ubuntu/CentOS/Windows 7) without problem
*Cost effective; ~$35/core

Cons: *Low clock speed makes it ineffective for single-threaded applications

Other Thoughts: Presently, this chip is running in a workstation hosting VMs for cluster-based application development. Runs with no issues on both standard desktop tasks and virtualized loads. In comparison to another Xeon based workstation running 2x 5520s, no significant performance hit is noticeable (neither machine, especially the xeon build, would be anywhere near maxed under this load)

Currently running at 53C, with a listed temperature tolerance of 55-66C on the AMD site. Cooler is a 60MM dyantron heatsink w/ fan available on Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsawsome price performance

Pros: Purchased for a server that is doing a lot of things at once and it has not disappointed me at all.
This thing is unbeatable for the price/performance.

Cons: Not fast, but I didn't need fast.

Other Thoughts: Running on Asus server board, server 2008 and 2 hypervisors and two 8750 raid cards (12 drives)
This thing just dosent slow down even with SQL and Exchange and a domain controller on the same machine.

5 out of 5 eggsSay 'goodnight' Intel

Pros: Purchased 14 of them in quad Supermicro 1U racks. I feel powerful.

Cons: Let me think about it and I'll be back as soon as I can.

Other Thoughts: Cpu farm, oh cpu farm, where have you been all my life.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Great for virtual machines

-Great for multithreaded applications

-GREAT for folding/World Community Grid

-Power bill friendly

- Runs VERY cool with Noctua NH-U9D0-A3 ..20c idle (1 above room), maximum 44c load. Thats the highest recorded after a couple months of running. Avg load is about 29C

- CHEAP

-Excellent price for the performance. I mean, amazing.

-2 of these run great on an ASUS KGPE-D16

Cons: - Difficult to apply thermal paste the proper way on such a large chip (literally double the length of a socket AM3 CPU)

-No standard coolers (The dynatrons were awful for me...45c idle temperature)

-IMC still slower than socket 1366 intel CPU IMCs (In real world)

- Performance per core not the fastest, you need to know this.

Other Thoughts: This CPU is REALLY FAST for some special applications. (SMP)This is a great CPU if youre buying it for the right purpose.

Gamers and casual computer users need not apply, gaming will be slow and single threaded applications will not be nearly as fast as other offerings.

For example, a system with two of these on a single motherboard will perform about as fast in some circumstances as my SINGLE overclocked i7 930 (4.2ghz), and other times far slower. This is because most applications will not fully use all available cores. Most of the ones I've tested on it utilize at maximum 4 cores, sort of a shame.

Basically, it ends up that a 4.2ghz core is far faster than a 2ghz core, and this is the way most programs will see it.

5 out of 5 eggsJust get it

Pros: You're looking at this processor because you are using highly multithreaded applications. This Processor will handle all of them. I created it because I didn't want to pay $5k for a certain computer from a certain fruit company. This is every bit of what that computer would be. With ability to run 1 or 2 CPU's you have the ability to expand to your needs.

Cons: None if used in the right application. If you need something to just play games with get a higher clocked intel cpu. This will pay them just fine but you might not get the ultra high FPU that gamers want.

Other Thoughts: I could not find very much info on this cpu for the desktop workstation environment. If you are looking for an economical alternative to intel them just get this. It's one of the most stable systems I have ever built. It flies through video encoding (HD footage from canon 7d with no conversion) and will play all the games you want. I run anything I want as much as I want with no problems.
