4 out of 5 eggs4 years later still serving me well.

Pros: Was very affordable in a bundle with an MSI motherboard I purchased in 2012. Still going strong 4 years later.

Cons: Under performs even in old games like World of Warcraft, Counter strike global offensive, Mirror's Edge.

Other Thoughts: This Review is late. 5 years ago I would of heavily Recommended this CPU and I would still recommend AMD Cpu's to anyone over Intel but I obviously cannot recommend the Fx 4100 Zambesi in 2016. The best equivalent today for around the same price go with the FX Six Core Cpu.

5 out of 5 eggsSad they don't make those anymore

Pros: Best value ever, cheap and yet powerful. Crazy overclocking capacity. Never had any issue with heat so long as I didn't overclock it and I was running the stock fan.

Cons: One little con here that took me a while to find out; this CPU, combined with the mobo I was using caused all characters to turn into black boxes in Mass Effect 1 during a certain level. I thought it was my GPU dying but I switched it and the problem was still there so I went on forums and the issue was common to people using the same setup. Not worth removing 1 star though.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best CPUs I have ever owned.

Pros: Simple CPU to just plug and play for beginner gamers to the advanced gamers. The little CPU that could can play any game out there right now, and not struggle as long as you keep it cool.

Cons: AMD needs to step up their game when it comes to stock coolers. At the very minimum, replace the stock coolers with a Hyper 212. These little beasts throw out more heat than the stock coolers can handle, so trash the stock coolers and get an aftermarket cooler.

Other Thoughts: Knowing that you will have to buy an aftermarket cooler, this FX-4100 (if you can still get it) can last you a lifetime of gaming and computer fun. Never had to overclock it, no do I have a need to. It still plays Fallout 4 on Ultra settings without a problem.

Don't let the Intel fanboys scare you away, yes, it does run hotter, but it does just as good as any other CPU of comparison out there. It will still run with the bigger FX-6300 and 8100 series. Will it be just as good, no. But it has the little dog syndrome.

5 out of 5 eggsGood CPU

Pros: Works well with XFX Radeon HD 6870 video card.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: As another reviewer mentioned, if overheating occurs look at reapplying thermal paste and maybe replacing the stock heat sink. I have had this CPU for 3 years and about a year or so ago I noticed higher CPU temps than normal. I removed the stock heat sink and found the thermal paste was old and was not doing its job anymore. I cleaned the CPU, applied new thermal paste, and put the stock heat sink and fan back on. Have not had a problem since.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid

Pros: Has worked without any issues since Dec 2011. Ran XP, now running W7 64bit, Steam and some other games. It has a GTX 760 but it does ok with it's respective era of games.

Cons: None really unless one wants to count the expected lower performance compared to Intel or SLI/Crossfire high end cards against products marketed in the mid-low end range.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Overclocker

Pros: This CPU may have some negative reviews, but all i xan tell you that it runs like a champ Overclocked or at stock clock.I'm using this CPU on my MB which is an MSI 880GMS -E41 FX with 8 gigs of ram I currently have it running at 4.2ghz for solid year now with no issues at all.

Cons: Runs pretty hot on the stock heatsink that came with it.And stock thermal compound will dry out in less in a month.

Other Thoughts: Buy a aftermarket heatsink and some arctic cooler comp and you will be golden.Runs all my games buttery smooth at 55-60 frames per second. I. Also have this paired with an XFX Radeon Double Dissipation R7 260x 2gb GDDR5.

Pros: Great factory over-clocked CPU.

Cons: Overheated a few times, but reapplying thermal paste and replacing the supplied heat sink remedied that.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive Bang for Buck

Pros: The good:
This CPU is a great overclocker and although discontinued it is still currently available on (in-store only) @ $45.00 retail in box! Furthermore, there are plenty of AM3+ motherboards on newegg. FYI DDR3 1333 Mhz RAM is being discontinued, so if you look around online there are great deals on it. This is how I overclocked FX-4100 to a stable 4.4GHz using the below listed MSI motherboard:

1- On pc bootup press your "Delete" key to access the BIOS
2- Navigate to "Cell Menu"
3- Press "Enter" key to access it
4- Disable C1E, Cool n Quiet & Turbo Boost
5- Change CPU FSB Frequency from 200 to 205
6- Change CPU Ratio to x21.5 (defaulted @ x18)
7- Select "F10" key to save your settings
8-PC will shutdown...then power up/re-boot

Windows 7 go to start button...type "power options"...left click on power options...under "select a power plan" change to high performance setting. In addition be sure if you are using Windows 7 be sure to install both Microsoft Windows 7 hotfixes for Bulldozer CPUs:

KB2645594 (install first)

Bing or Google to get them since neither are part of Windows auto updates. I have owned this processor for approx. 2 years and oced like above it will beat Intel i3 & will come close to i5 in performance.

Cons: This CPU has been trashed repeatedly; usually by individuals who lack knowledge/skill to overclock it. This was the "entry" level FX Bulldozer CPU;yet Intel masses always wanted to compare it to an i5 or i7...BOTH costing alot more. In stock form the FX-4100 is a dog, but oced it can compete with I3 and some I5s.

Other Thoughts: Here is my build I still use to this day:

RocketFish CPU Cooler model # RF-UCPUCF...BIOS set @ 37.5% CPU fan speed/voltage (thin coat of Ceramique2)

AMD FX-4100 CPU oced to stable 4.4GHz/core on stock voltage

MSI 760GM-P21 (FX) motherboard

Crucial DDR3 1333Mhz RAM 8 gig (2x4 gigs)

Gigabyte graphics card GV-R7850C-1GD (HD 7850 256 bit I gig DDR5)

Logisys 368 SOHO mid tower case (bottom mount PSU)

Western Digital SATAIII WD2500AAKX hard drive

Antec 80mm rear case fan (BIOS set @ 50% voltage/speed System Fan1)

Side mounted CoolMaster 120mm fan modified from 3pin to male molex (red/blk wires straight to PSU female molex)

Rosewill Hive 750 watt PSU

Logitech K400r wireless keyboard w/intergrated mouse

Monitor: Sceptre 32" LED 720p HDTV connected via HDMI cable

CyberPower AVR 685 UPS battery backup

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32 bit (RAM limit unlocked)

At current Fryss price of $45.00 brutally beats any Intel CPU in same price range. I paid $99.99 when I purchased it & after ocing it I love it to this day!
