4 out of 5 eggsStill kicking after all these years

Pros: - 6 years of intense workloads
- 6 years of random overclocking and abuse
- Still retains a decent resale value compared to other chips on secondary market.

Cons: - Poor Virtualization compatibility (VMWare or Hyper-V)
- Stock cooler is loud (Although this was easily resolved with replacement cooling)
- Little fella gets pretty toasty with even a simple overclock.

Other Thoughts: - These chips were another example of AMD proving themselves capable of staying competitive with Intel.
- I haven't been this impressed with an AMD processor since the ThunderBird core.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Running

Pros: This was an excellent chip, despite what Intel fanboys would have you believe. Still keeps up with apps and games today, and is going strong. When I build my next system I will give this one to the kids to use and it should be fine for a few more years.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsI could marry this

Pros: I waited almost 5 years to write this review. This CPU is a champion. I do not know how to overclock, but that was fine. It ran everything I threw at it on stock settings. Witcher 2, Shogun 2 Total War, Battlefield 3, Civilization 5 etc. This was my first CPU I bought from AMD when I assembled my first PC in March 2011. For the price I paid, along with its longevity, it was absolute bargain. I decided to upgrade my CPU to FX 8350, but the Phenom II is a keeper.

Cons: Some games that deal with a massive amount of units such as Total War series or Sins of a Solar Empire, Civilization 5 etc. can cause quite a bit of drop in FPS. In my case, it drops about 30 FPS from 60. This did not bother me all that much, but for others it something to consider. Stock fan is extremely loud.

5 out of 5 eggsI didnt go wrong with this one..

Pros: Still going.. on 5th year on GA-890FXA-UD5 takes the voltage when I drive it, heats up fast when OCed. Added an 80i water cooler helped big time when running 3.8Ghz. Great chip, good price, suprised me how well of a multitasker it is,wont hesitate to get next new gen processor of AMD when upgrade!

Cons: Benchmarks of the 965 black not much difference to the 955, feel AMD unsold its performance, I almost bought an intel, glad I didn't, helped my under $1K build achieve great value and still comparatively powerful for its age.

Other Thoughts: Dont hesitate to play outside the specs with this one it can take it just watch the heat !

4 out of 5 eggsLong Term Review

Pros: This thing has been a champ. It has survived for over 3.5 years in a case that was always a bit warm. Paired with 16GB ram, a 2gb GPU it has been able to play all my CPU games with great FPS and always on High/Ultra settings. Even with an overheating GPU over the past 4 months (+85C) it has been able to keep itself cool with the OEM fan/radiator. I have de-dusted it on a regular basis and re-applied heat sink twice. I will be using this same CPU on my new build as I was on a budget. I will however, upgrade to a liquid cooler.

Cons: Fan became a bit loud after year 2. Did run a bit hot with factory heat sink/radiator combo. It ran around 55C under continued heavy load.
(ONE case fan) Runs around 46C with new sink.

Other Thoughts: I really cant complain. There are better CPUs out there, obviously, but this one has been more than stable, reliable, and resilient. Ill try to get another year or so before upgrading.

5 out of 5 eggsLong-lasting goodness

Pros: I've had this since 2010. Still works like a charm.

Cons: Very hot, but I'm still using the fan and heatsink that came with it plus Arctic Silver 5, and the worst I've had it is 75C.

Other Thoughts: I can't justify upgrading from this for a very long time. I use my PC for AutoCAD (2D and some 3D), Sketchup, Photoshop, and InDesign. Occasional gaming. For five years of use, I've had no problems at all, ever, with this CPU.

4 out of 5 eggsA little set up and this thing is perfect.

Pros: I have had this processor since Christmas, 2012. Not once have I even looked at a new processor. In fact, once I have the money, I'm placing my last upgrade order for a while. Once It's all put together, I'll have replaced everything about my rig, EXCEPT the processor.

Opens applications instantly, rebooting takes less than a minute, and games run perfectly.

Cons: Sometimes the processor won't be able to handle a high-end game and the side processes all at once.

Only one unfixable downside. This processor OVERHEATS. LIKE. HELL.

I already had to shut this thing down once for a week after replacing the heat sink. If you can't afford at LEAST carbon based thermal compound (Arctic Silver MX-2) pick a different CPU. With anything less than carbon based, this CPU idles at 84 degrees Celsius. With carbon, though, you are idling at 34.

Other Thoughts: The problem with side processes making gameplay sluggish can easily be fixed by alt-tabbing and setting the affinity of the game process so core 3 is not used. You do NOT need four cores to game on this processor. After limiting, it will run perfectly.
