Just like the Windsors rule England, AMD’s Windsor processors may rule the computer world. The Athlon 64 X2 6000+ runs at 3.0GHz per core, and each core’s power is bolstered by 1MB of L2 cache. The dual core architecture means multi-tasking and multi-threading without sharing clock cycles, so you get faster performance. Individual L1 and L2 caches for each core along with HyperTransport technology increase performance by giving each core a dedicated cache of memory and reducing I/O bottlenecks by increasing bandwidth and reducing latency.

The 64-bit design keeps you going now and into the future. The AMD64 technology is compatible with existing software and enables a seamless transition to the 64-bit applications of the future. This technology allows end users to take advantage of new innovations such as real-time encryption, more life-like games, accurate speech interfaces, cinema-quality graphic effects, and easy-to-use video and audio editing.

This processor is an integral part of AMD LIVE! This new feature from AMD will turn your PC into an entertainment platform second to none. Watch videos or TV in one room while streaming music into another. Your system will become a true media center with music, movies, and photos all organized and able to be shared amongst all of your connected equipment.

  • newegg AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32 and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual-core processor enjoys 2000MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
  • newegg CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This thing is fast. Very easy to install. Very low cost but plays like a champ. Easy to install. I use it to play fsx and fs9 and i now play both at extreme graphics. Did not over clock.

Cons: its am2 so i had to get an am2 motherboard.

Pros: Lightning fast processing, even after a year of ownership. After being convinced by a friend to go with AMD as opposed to the more expensive alternative, I'm glad that I made the switch.

Cons: None.

Pros: Great performance/Cost.
AMD
Stays cool and stable.
Stock cooler works great.

Cons: Stock cooler works great but is a pain to install.

Other Thoughts: XP home 32 bit
Pair this with 2gig of ram and a 9800GT and up vid card and you have an awsome gaming machine for a low cost. Purchased this proc for my girlfriends gaming machine and it has served her well.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a HEMI!!

Pros: I upgraded from my old 64X2 2300 to this bad boy and it's been history ever since. I run 3 separate online mmorpg's on 4 monitors and they all run flawlessly. I push this thing to the limit and it seems to want more.

Cons: It destabilized thru overclocking, but I was using the automatic engine... I'm sure I could manually overclock it but I'm good with the processor's current performance aspect.

Other Thoughts: I did buy a 3rd party heatsink/fan for this, the cooler master V8. I highly recommend going beyond the stock heatsink/fan if you want to push this processor to the limit. This processor will run hot, so keep it cool!

5 out of 5 eggsFor Vormav

Pros: This CPU is fast. My friend bought 1 over a year ago and it still runs great.
This is an AM2 socket processor, many am2 boards will run AM2+ and AM3 processors with a bios update.

Performance is close to that of a core 2 due 6600

Cons: Many new AM2+ and some AM3 processors are faster for the money when being overclocked.

Other Thoughts: If you want to upgrade to this, i suggest looking at what processors your board supports and look for another processor, AM2+ or AM3, they are backwards compatible with each other.

AM2 socket supports AM2, AM2+, and AM3
AM2+ socket supports AM2, AM2+, and AM3 (faster HT and ram speeds)
AM3 socket supports AM3(fastest HT and ram speeds - supports DDR3)

5 out of 5 eggsProcessor = Great ---- Stock Heatsink = Not So Much

Pros: This processor is great. I upgraded from a 2.5ghz Dual Core AMD CPU to this one and the difference is night and day. My 9800GTX+ was being bottlenecked by my old CPU so this CPU also helped it a ton. I do not understand why people claim this CPU is extremely hot. Mine gets warm under load, but its cooler than my last processor which was alot weaker in power.

I have yet to see my temperature pass 47C and that was under extreme load. It seems to sit around 30C-37C under normal conditions. I am using the stock heatsink and I used ArcticClean to get the crummy thermal pad/paste that it was shipped with off of the stock heatsink and I applied my own Arctic Silver 5. So considering the Arctic Silver 5 hasn't had time for it's break in period I would say that the current temps are rock solid.

This thing is FAST. I'm sure that was obvious, but I wanted to stress how fast it is. I'm a gamer and I will use this for quite awhile. No thanks on Quad Core.

Cons: Sadly the stock heatsink was a MAJOR pain to install. I didn't take an egg off its review for that reason though as it's not the processor's fault. It is the heatsink's fault. I literally spent over an hour trying my best to get this heatsink on. It was extremely hard and I'm surprised I didn't crack my motherboard in half doing it.

I was hoping to get the 3.2GHZ AM2 processor, but Newegg has been sold out of them for two months now and I can't find them anywhere for under $200 since they've supposedly been deactivated.

Other Thoughts: If you have an AM2 motherboard and need a new processor I must stress you purchase this one and do it soon. AM2 processors are deactivated and Newegg among other places will be out of them very soon. Look back two or three months ago and Newegg had 12 different AM2 processors, and now they have two. This one and the 2.7ghz one which just came back up as it was sold out for awhile as well.

So you better purchase this quickly because you could come on here tomorrow and it might not be here. Which is what happened to me with the 3.2GHZ CPU that Newegg had here for a year.

It sucks that I just built my gaming rig not even a full year ago and now AM2 processors are phasing out and my motherboard cannot use AM2+ or AM3. That isn't newegg's fault but yeah.

GET THIS BEAST!
