Excellent Quad Core
- Pros: I bought two of these cpus about 3 months ago and have had no problems with either. This is an excellent quad core, especially for the price. I replaced a dual core wolfdale with this cpu, and the Deneb really smokes it when encoding video. I also floored this cpu for 3 days it order to analyze the parameter space of mathematical model I've been working on. The 945 performed flawlessly.
- Cons: I wish AMD would stop putting thermal grease on their cpus. I just have to remove it to put on something of better quality.
PII x4 945
- Pros: I replaced an Intel Q6600 with this processor on an msi k9a2 platinum motherboard with a 4 gig ddr2 1000 kit. Even with a locked multiplier, I was able to OC the chip to 3.75ghz on air (250x15). Only hit 46C on 100% load while running prime95 (Scythe Mugen 2).
- Cons: Locked multiplier. This is understood, but the cost should really be lower since its a non-BE chip. Thats why I took off one egg. $15 is not enough to warrant the OCing difference.
Takes a lot of volts to break 3.7ghz (around 1.48v).
- Other Thoughts: Great chip when I bought it, but now that there's not much of a price difference, spend the money on a 955 rev. C so you have an unlocked multiplier.
Great little firecracker
- Pros: 8 meg shared cache (combined) quad 3.00 with room to move if you choose
The fan that comes with it does what it should keep my temps in the 40-50 range. (not a heavy gamer or OC'r but I do play Bioshock/GW/oblivion with settings maxed) The temps are still below 50.
I will tell you they pre apply a paste sticker looking thing take the plastic shell the protects it off and then mount. It almost looks like you need to remove something else but you don’t.
- Cons: Although newegg packed it great for shipment the OEM packaging has the chip sitting on the out side of the box in a plastic shell my thoughts are what if you dropped this thing and it landed just right OUCH
- Other Thoughts: Double check your motherboards wattage for cpu support some do not handle this things hunger

Introduction
Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with 3.0GHz quad cores, each of which has L1 and L2 caches. An additional 6MB of L3 cache is available to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.
Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 delivers an amazing 33.1GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.
You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.
Highlights
 |
AMD64 Quad-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Quad-Core technology, four complete processor cores on a single die run at the same frequency to deliver exceptional multi-tasking power, allowing users to surge through the most demanding processing loads, including advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, complicated visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.
