- Pros: AMD's Phenom II x4 955 is a scary beast!! This baby is smokin fast and devours what ever program you throw at it. Plays Crysis oh max settings and says, "Can I run Crysis? FORGET ABOUT IT!"
- Cons: I can't take it home to met my mom:(
- Other Thoughts: Very easy to over clock. Just got to AMD.com and download AMD Overdrive and now you have the power of the world in your hands.
Very Nice !!
- Pros: Went from a Athlon X2 5200 to this and is much faster. Framerates on GTA IV went from 20-25 to 45-50 with same 8800gtx card.
- Cons: As always , stock cooler barely keeps it under max temps. Bought a Gelid 120mm cooler and runs much cooler now.
Fast & Hot
- Pros: This is an extremely fast CPU, at 3.2ghz stock speeds with 4 cores it will shred through any games and business applications currently on the market, provided you have a sufficient video card. And better yet, because this is a Black Edition Phenom II, the multiplier is unlocked for ultra-easy overclocking. Just install Windows, visit AMD.com and download AMD Overdrive and tweak the settings to your heart's delight. With no work, I easily overclocked my Phenom II X4 955 from the stock 3.2ghz to 3.8ghz, and I'm sure that there's a lot of potential left. If I was building a gaming system for a friend, I wouldn't hesitate to choose this...the price difference between this and an i7 is too great given that there is little performance difference in games
- Cons: Runs very hot, with an aftermarket Xigmatek cooler it's pushing 60c at load. Substantially hotter than my old Q6600 and Q9400
- Other Thoughts: My Rig:
Phenom II X4 955 Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Lian Li Rocketfish Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 2x2GB Corsair DDR2 800, 5-5-5-18 EVGA 8800GT, being replaced by a HIS HD 5670 IceQ 512MB Lite-On DVD-RW Windows 7 Professional x64
I built this system for under $650, and it flies. I can play any game at high settings, encode videos, and run a virus scan at the same time.

Introduction
Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II X4 955 streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with four 3.2GHz cores that have dedicated L1 and L2 caches for each , and 6MB of shared L3 cache to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.
Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing total of 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.
You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.
Highlights
