5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1. Good Price at the time
2. Overclocked vary well
3. Ran cool
4. Blows threw apps faster than any dual core
5. Better than the Athlon II's
6. Still uses DDR2 for older AM2/AM2+ Boards
7. Does not bottleneck my 9800GT's or my HD5850

Cons: 1. Only supports AM2+ boards, so have to stick to DDR2
2. CPU-NB on this thing does not like to be touched, even on other boards
3. Won't clock any higher than 3.8ghz even with 1.55 or more vCore
4. Runs hot when clocked high

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing to replace a Athlon x2 6000+ and glad I did, big improvement. Didn't see much of an improvement in a some games, only games it helped a lot was GTA4 and BC2. I have since upgraded to DDR3 and the 1100T, but I still own the x4 940 in another computer and that thing is still hauling, Plays BF3 vary well with a HD6770, and every other game out there. This thing has been passed around from system to system and is still going.

Older system:
CPU: Phenom II x4 940 3.8ghz with Corsair H50
Ram: Corsair DDR2 800 6gb
Video: XFX HD6770 1gb
BFG: 550watt
Mobo: ASRock A770 DE+ AM3 AM2/AM2+ 770 ATX
Case: APEX PC-389-C Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
HDD: WD Caviar Green 1TB

4 out of 5 eggsSolid processor

Pros: Great speed, excellent price, hardly any quad cores in this price range

Cons: Anything intel just demolishes this processor, seriously you would have to go down to almost the base level i3 before the speeds would even be similar, for a similar price to what you have here. great mfg, just wish they could make faster products.

Other Thoughts: i used to be an amd fanboy, but in the last 10 years they have proceeded to ruin any goodwill they once held. i just built a new system for about 2.3k and sadly made the decision to switch to an intel build after using amd products for 10+ years.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Price. Was $95, what a steal. This chip is great for the latest games. Increased my FPS on BFBC2 by 15-25+ frames! Comp boots faster. Everything is faster! Windows 7 loads in 30 or less seconds. Perfect upgrade over a dual core. Oh yeah, runs cooler than my old processor too.

Cons: Here is the tricky part. Upgrading the motherboard can be a hassle. After that, getting windows to boot. Good thing windows 7 can repair itself. I didn't have to mess with the bios to much. I used the EZ flash option with a USB stick on boot. Overall physical installation was a snap.

Other Thoughts: Went from a AMD 3.0 Dual Core to AMD Phenom II X4 940
4 gigs DDR2 800 (added 2 gigs @ purchase)
Nvidia 250 GT 512
Asus M2n-SLI Deluxe Motherboard (still rocking)

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Nice stock clock quad core processor. Price to performance is very good.

Cons: Performance is not comparable to Intels' quad processors. I have several of each type running... Intel beats the pants off of them -- but at a much bigger hit to the wallet.

Other Thoughts: All around, a nice processor for a machine that needs to do it all, just not at the peak of performance. Well priced for performance.

2 out of 5 eggsI had to send it back.

Pros: Cheap processor, Quad core, good speed and power for the money. but its AM2 only so its old tech and stepping.

Cons: Hot unstable on standard clock and voltage getting BSOD on stable system. Old tech and stepping

Errors on OCCT, overheating causing shutdown.

Other Thoughts: Could be some compatability issues with MOBO but I sent the processor back because of the crashes, might just be a bad processor. We will see when replacement comes

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice AM2+ chip

Pros: VAST improvement over my Phenom X4 9500. (If I would have done my research I would not of purchased the 9500 due to the TLB bug. But whatevs...)
Fast chip. Black Edition makes for simple over/under clocking. Probably the best AM2+ chip for an older board.
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790x-UD4H

Cons: HOT - HOT - HOT
I thought people were being dramatic when they said that this runs toasty, but no. My old CPU idled at 23c and maybe pushed to 45c at the most using a Zalman cooler. This Mo Fo idles at 40c and highest was 58c after 2hrs of prime 95(O.C'ed a tad to 3.3ghz.) However, I just put this in my rig less than a month ago and prolly the Artic Silver needs to be set in. And pushing it a bit might have some factor to add. But now I got mine down to 3.1ghz and it seems to be staying 40-50c

Other Thoughts: For normal everyday tasks I will enable Cool n Quiet in the Bios, seems to help with temps. Gaming will leave off.
Totally happy with my new CPU and if you dont want to quite make the jump to AM3 yet, please get this.
NueEgg did a great job with packaging. Looked like a bubble wrap football in the box.
*1 minor thing about the material that the pins rest on. The most fiberous padding I've ever seen. Im glad i took a second look at the pins because there was a strand of this pink whatever resting in the rows. Almost too small to see but it was there. Airduster took care of it. But please double check the pins carefully!!

My humble rig

Gigabyte GA-MA790x-UD4H
Zalman 9700 cooler
This sweet CPU
8GB Corsair 800mhz ram
GTX 460 1GB (itching to get another)
4 1GB Caviar Blacks (no RAID- I just got a bunch of stuff)
650Watt PSU
1 happy owner
Cooler Master 690 w/ 6 fans
Clear side panel
Enough LED's to start a rave.

5 out of 5 eggsOEM worries

Pros: I had reservations about the OEM chip but have had no problems. No bent pins, no scratches. Runs Great and is a HUGE improvement over my AMD 64 4000

Cons: Not a single problem.

Other Thoughts: If your on a budget Pick up one of these.
