Very Nice For General Computing
- Pros: I have been building my own computers since 1997. The first one was rough, bought everything at the Dallas sidewalk sale roflcopters. Since then, I spend time researching every component. For the reliability, performance, and price, this cpu is a winner. Not the fastest Phenom, but if you are running an AM2 motherboard and want to step up to quad core, this is the way to go. Went from an Athlon X2 3.0ghz to this cpu. Not sure whether it would be faster for games but surely not much slower in the worst case and much nicer in the best cases, two more cores to handle whatever after the first two are busy, love it.
- Cons: 125 watts, not a problem at all for me but then I know how to choose a heatsink/fan and I know how to mount it. Don't use too much thermal paste btw lol, use only a very thin layer and spend time mounting heatsink correctly and you'll do fine.
- Other Thoughts: This is my final upgrade for my beloved Asus M2N32-Sli Deluxe motherboard. Check your motherboard web site for the supported cpu list, you don't want to play around with an unsupported cpu. I had to update my bios (used a usb flash drive btw,) it booted and ran but after the update things were better so do the bios update before you install the cpu, your's might not boot. I don't overclock, btw, as reliability is always a top concern for me.
Excellent value
- Pros: This is the consumer version of the Opteron 2360SE. Dell's spec.org scores for this cpu(PowerEdge R805) top the Xeon 5482 3.2 ghz(Precision T7400) Harpertown by about 9%. In honest "work" benchmarks it will outperform all but the I5 and 7. Gaming is a different story as games are designed to use 4k or less page files so ghz matters more than true processing power. This cpu is designed with 16k page files in mind so with the right memory it is great for photoshop, Premiere, Solidworks , Catia Unigraphics NX. Better 3D rendering with the L3 cache than prior generations.
- Cons: Should have used more than 512k/cpu in L2 or larger L3 to cut latency.
- Other Thoughts: Price performance ratio is matched only by the Deneb 940 when using the OCZ AM2 Special memory

love it
- Pros: its a amd... need i say more. droped it in to replace and ath 64 x2 4400, and saw a nice boost in performance
- Cons: none
My computer ROCKS now
- Pros: Upgraded from athlon x2 5200. I also have a 9800 gtx video card. I use to play FS2004 with frame rate of 30-44 with half graphics, now I am full graphics and 50+. Load times on applications are fast. It feels like I got a new computer. Easy install just pop it in and it works. BIOS automatically recognized. When I brought my first chip x2 5200. This chip was well over $200, now for $89, what a bargin
- Cons: NONE
- Other Thoughts: Don't delay buy it.
works perfectly
- Pros: Very low cost because you don't have to repurchase the stock cooler you aren't going to use anyway.
- Cons: I think mine was mis-marked. I tried to install it in the same orientation as the CPU I took out, but it didn't fit. I checked my motherboard manual to make sure I was lining it up correctly. The manual clearly shows the arrow on the CPU should be diagonally opposite the locking lever when the lever is straight up, and that's how I had it When I looked at the bottom of the CPU and compared it to the socket, the blank spots on the CPU were parallel to the blank spots on the socket. I rotated it 90 degrees, so the arrow is now parallel at the end opposite the locking lever arm, and it fit. I've been building PC's since the early 90's and have never seen anything like this. It works perfectly, I'm not sure how this made it through QA.
- Other Thoughts: I installed this in an Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/HDMI, after upgrading to the 2904 BIOS. Installation was a snap once I got the CPU orientation sorted out. Dropped it in, locked it down, put the cooler back on, and it was done. I'm using a Scythe Ninja Mini CPU cooler and have noticed that the CPU idles 6 - 8C hotter than my older 89W Athlon X2 5600+. Nothing major, just worth noting that you might need to consider increasing your cooling.
