Pros: Attached to my machine running Windows Home Server 2011 which recognized it and installed with no problem. Used it to connect a backup drive in WHS. Worked with several different drives. Throughput is no longer bottlenecked by the USB interface.
Cons: None.

Rating: 4/5Good with hdd spin down but fan noisy
Pros: Good design. Supports HDD spin down (LED also off). Fan speed is adjustable using the button on the side (can also be turned off completely). Fan really helps to keep the disk cool. Physical power On/Off switch. Item arrived with USB 3 and eSata cable.
Using with 2TB WD RED drive hooked into TomatoUSB router for NAS storage using USB port. Good that the disk spins down and activity LED turns off.
Cons: Fan is noisy. Costly IMO, should be priced $25 - $30.

Rating: 5/5This guy is handy!
Pros: This works well and is just slick as snot! It's fast. Turn all your internal drives into external USB 3.0 and ESATA.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: The power died on my Fantom 2TB external. I was shopping for a new enclosure for it and saw this. WOW! Pop my old 2TB in it for big stuff, grab an old 160GB and pop in it to backup my wife's laptop. Pop in a friends laptop drive to clean viruses off of it. This rocks if you have a lot of drives laying around. It makes them all USB 3.0 and ESATA.

Rating: 4/5Good for backup
Pros: USB 3 speeds, convenient to operate.
Cons: Goes into standby mode, even when being used while editing.
Other Thoughts: I had bought this device thinking I could edit from it. It does work, I just finished a short film shot at 1080p and the playback worked fine. The problem is that every once-in-a-while the darn thing disconnects from the computer and goes into a hybernation mode. That plays havoc with my links. It doesn't seem to do that while copying. I wish there was a way to turn off the sleep mode. I will be using this primarily as a backup device but I'm still looking for an editing solution that allows me to swap drives quickly.

Rating: 5/5Very handy
Pros: Write speeds topped out at 50 MB/s. Read 90 MB/s on USB 3.0. Quite handy to have and toss HDs in and out of for quick file movement between comps.
Cons: Fan is a bit pointless unless you somehow have it running nonstop.
Other Thoughts: Maybe slightly overpriced, but that depends on perspective / market shifts.

Pros: I bought this because I recently purchased a new computer and wanted to pull the old hard drives from my old computer and access the data on them. The device is very intuitive and easy to set-up and install (on Windows 7 it recognized the drive without having to load any external drivers). The eSATA port works great and has high-transfer speeds.
Cons: However, I bought this to also connect occasionally with my laptop that has a USB 3.0 connection. Any time I have used the USB 3.0 on the StarTech it works intermittently at best (I've now tried it with 3 different computers, all USB 3.0). Usually after a few minutes it stops reading whatever hard drive I have loaded. Again, the eSATA connection has never failed and works great, but if you are buying this fopr the USB 3.0 then save your money and look elsewhere because it will fail on you and you will be disappointed.

Rating: 4/5Nice Unit
Pros: Easy to use, well-designed docking bay. Cooling fan is almost a necessity with these units, and this fan is big enough to avoid Premature Fan Death.
Cons: If you are using USB3, and you use an add-on USB3 PCI card (including the StarTech PCI or PCIe adapters) to get USB3, you must connect the optional internal aux. power connection on the card to drive additional power to the USB3 lines, despite the fact that this is a powered docking bay. Otherwise the SATDOCK will run at USB2 speed and you'll get the dreaded "this device could perform faster..." pop-up.
