The BFG Tech BFGE550WPSU combines high performance, high efficiency, and low noise all in a modular system worthy of the BFG name.

Modular means you use only the cables you need to improve air flow and keep your system organized. The BFGE550WPSU features a typical efficiency of up to 85% which means more power is converted to DC than many other power supplies on the market. BFG Thermal Control Technology ensures that the unit runs as quietly as possible by varying the speed of the fan in response to load and temperature. Dual +12V rails, over-volt, over-current and short circuit protection provides rock solid reliability and safety.

5 out of 5 eggsInitial Review

Pros: Modular: Less cables = better airflow and less mess
140mm fan: excellent size
Sound: Very quiet

Cons: # of 4-Pin Molex connectors: Limited use
Manual: Very vague, and contains virtually no contact information
Under 80% Efficiency: No 80+% Efficiency ratings. Barely hits 80+% if using a 230V Socket, which in America, is unlikely.

Other Thoughts: After my Corsair TX650 died unexpectantly on me, I needed a psu to replace it and was recommended this BFG one. After investing 70$ into it, the Modular design worked nicely for my case, but I daisy chained anything that used Molex 4-Pin and luckily all my drives were SATA. All voltages read as normal, and its passed my stress test for what I put it through the most. We'll see how it goes within the next month.

1 out of 5 eggsPOP! There goes the HD

Pros: Modular = Clean Case! Nice clean gun-metal finish. Slightly larger fan and exhaust than my C0r$air 650w. Price is a pretty decent deal.

Cons: Hulk-like strength required to 'snap' modular cables into the sockets. Super SHORT cables. (Was barely able to plug in and reach my 4-socket molex connector to the MB in an Antec 900 case, it had to go right down the middle of the motherboard). Not ready for 2 Higher-end graphics cards - (Ex: The Ati 5800 series requires more than 18amps on the 12v rails.)

Other Thoughts: 1 star? I mean that's pretty lame right? Not exactly for me. In an effort to increase air-flow in my case and 'up' the Wattage of my previous PSU, I decided to go with BFG! Afterall, they made my Video card for a computer I still have working over 5 years ago. Their PSU's must be of similar quality!

While initially the PSU powered up fine, I noticed my SATA HD and SATA DVD/RW weren't working (as they were before the PSU upgrade). After reconnecting the PSU to the devices and using a different included SATA modular power cable, I hear a 'POP' and the PSU just died. Upon further investigation, the reason why the HD and DVD/RW stopped working was due to a Power Surge on the SATA cable. Fortunately, it didn't hit the MoBo.

Conclusion: PSU Died and took my 1TB HD and DVD/RW with it. BFG Tech, you've lost a customer.

5 out of 5 eggsBFG.......nuff said.

Pros: I have owned BFG video cards with exceptional perf. I thought I'd try the PSU when time to upgrade came to be. It's got all the cables needed for just everything. It runs SLI or Xfire. Nice cable wraps, nice big fan. 80%-85% efficiency rating. For the buck, its a nice low priced bang. I'd buy another if I needed it.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: BFG is earning more and more respect from. From Video cards to PSU's they seem to want to stay on top of the game. Thanks BFG!

3 out of 5 eggsSHORT CABLES

Pros: Modular means that I only used the cables I needed..which just happened to be all but one.

Cons: ATX 24 pin and CPU 4+4 Pin cables are too short for my case (TJ06 By S!lv3rSt0n3). I have heard this to be a common problem, so if you have a larger case I would stay away from this PS.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice Bfg, Very nice

Pros: Modular, great finish, Quiet, Bfg pwns

Cons: The psu goes in with the fan facing down, into the case.... Blowing hot air right on the cpu and gfx. Not a fan of this.

Other Thoughts: if you have a bottom mounted case then it is exceptional. top mounted. Kinda sucks. But all in all great product.
