5 out of 5 eggsGood quality power supply

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: Well built. Quiet. Four PCIE connectors (2x6 pins, 2x6+2 pins). ATX12V v2.3. Should be able to handle just about any single current gen GPU and Nvidia SLI up to GTX 980.

Cons: Not modular. I wish it had more SATA and few MOLEX connectors.

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace a down cycled OCZ power supply which served me well but was a couple ATX revisions behind. I don't have a see-through case so I didn't care too much about the lack of modularity. I picked this PSU primarily on the strength of the supposed OEM and Antec's reputation and price.

Antec is pretty vague about it's product names. There have been many versions of PSU all baring the same "EarthWatts EA-650" name. So be aware about getting an earlier. possibly outdated box.

Mine does have 6 total PCIe connectors so the description is wrong.

2 out of 5 eggsAntec Quality?

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: It's quiet.
Nice cable braiding.

Cons: One month out from the warranty expiry, and the 3.3V rail dips to 2.9V.
Fails the BIOS voltage test.
Frequent BSODs.

Other Thoughts: My old FSP PSU lasted eight years.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat power supply!

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: -Quiet
-Doesn't output much heat, even under high load
-Provides stable power for my GTX 980 and i7 4790K, both overclocked substantially

Cons: Not modular, but I knew that when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: This power supply has been through many upgrades. Since my purchase of it I have upgraded from an AMD FX-6350 to an Intel Core i7-4790K, and from an AMD Radeon HD-7790 to an Nvidia Geforce GTX 980.

This power supply has held up through the time I have had it, and hopefully will last me a few more years to come.

5 out of 5 eggsPSU

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: Quiet and dependable

Have been running this PSU since 10/2011.

Cons: See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: With regards o the fire issue/s. It's important to take note that if you have a video card that only requires (1) PCI-e plug be sure and choose the plug that has the Yellow & black cords. Why? It is on the #2 12+ rail. The all yellow cords w/connector are on the #1 rail which is shared. For cards that require (2) PCI-e connectors it's irrelevant because both combined lower the load placed on the system.

1 out of 5 eggsIntermittently no power

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: Seems to run low and quiet (when it runs!)

Cons: I bought this back in June 2014 and didn't have time to deal with it until recently -- intermittent power issues. Out of box I had trouble with it coming on at all, and it first blamed by case. Tested with a known good supply and it was not the fault of the case (also Antec). It will not stay on at times and will turn off.

Other Thoughts: I would buy from Antec again, but after reading some of the horror story comments about this particular model catching on fire and nearly burning down buildings, I may abstain! I am working on getting them to replace this with a new one, possibly a different model.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: Has worked fine, powering my PC for almost a year

Cons: The fan started whining and grinding after a month so I had to block it and mount an external one on the back of the case. No real biggie though, and doesn't affect performance.

2 out of 5 eggsHot power supply when it's burning

This review is from: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible

Pros: I've had this power supply for over a year and it's been great. In fact it's been really great. Runs quiet lots of connections, and it still powers the computer when flames are coming out of it.

Cons: My only complaint is that it caught fire, and it did even did that really well.

Other Thoughts: I still am trying to figure out why it caught on fire... I have only cleaned the case ever since I installed the power supply over a year ago. My only conclusion was that I had left it running over 24 hours, and I've done that many times before with this computer along with previous computers that I have had. I'm just glad I was home and awake when it happened.
