5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, basic upgrade for gaming video card

Pros: I have purchased a few of these power supplies over the years to replace the standard 300 or 350 watt power supplies that often come with prebuilt computers that use only the onboard video. Because I am into gaming, I need a stronger power supply to support the addition of a video card. I also add a second hard drive to the computers that I build to use as a backup drive. This power supply has easily handled the extra hard drive and video card (gaming cards such as GeForce ti 550's) and remains very quiet.

Cons: This is a basic looking power supply... I don't mind that. but, if you want one that looks "cool" or "hot" or whatever with glowing lights and such... this one is not snazzy like that. I'm not into what my computer looks like, but some people are. I will say, though, that I do like the LED's that you see on some power supplies so that I can tell that the computer is on, as this one is very quiet.

Other Thoughts: I hate noisy power supplies. This one is very quiet.

4 out of 5 eggsBP550 Plus

Pros: Second unit i have owned, First one still works after 2.5 years. Second one is just installed 36 hours ago and it works too. 444 watts on the 12v rail. The PCIE 6 pin and 6+2 pin both draw from Rail 3 with 25 amps.
Powers a Core i5 760 @ 3.9Ghz = aprox. 125 watts Max load.
Powers a EVGA 970 GTX SSC @ 1500/ 7800= aprox 250.

Those numbers are at Full LOAD, meaning Forced Load. Meaning you wont hit that load ever gaming.

Its semi modular, the 24 pin is hard wired to the PSU, the 4+4 CPU pin is hard wired, as well as the 6+2 pin. You will need them anyways so that makes sense. The rest are modular, the 6 pin, Sata, and molex.

No chirp or whine on either unit, Fan is quiet, big and works. Cables are plenty long enough for a Antec 902 case.

Cons: Documentation is lacking on specific details about rail assignments. Cables are a bit stiff, but just a bit.

Emailed Antec, they confirmed- Both the 6 pin and 6+2 pin PCIE power cables draw from Rail 3 at 25 amps. U can run a 970 on this PSU.

Other Thoughts: Price is decent for what it does. Hard to find reviews on it. Got the first unit at a Staples when my Kingwin 1400 watts died after 3 years. Staples was the only local shop selling PSU. First unit worked for 2.5 years no problems. Still works.

3 out of 5 eggsAntec slipping

Pros: Antec is my favorite PS company, but buying the 500W continuous power worked stable for a long time before failure.

Cons: The longevity is not there anymore, the powersupply began squealing at a high pitch, it was outside of 3 year warranty to so no support

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

Pros: The partially modular design allows me to keep my cases cleaner by not including cables I don't need.

Cons: It would be nice to have the option to purchase this in black instead of silver.

Other Thoughts: In my business, I have purchased dozens of power supplies from Antec. I have never been disappointed with them.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Got it on a good deal with a mail in rebate.

120mm fan keeps it cool.

Antec quality

Cons: It's grey instead of black.

Other Thoughts: I've bought Antec in the past and they've held up really well.

This is a good deal on a basic 550 watt psu with a 120 mm fan.

Modular, which is an added bonus.

80 plus certified is nice, saves you a little on your monthly electricity bill.
