An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 500 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

5 out of 5 eggsPopped in today, works great

Pros: Hopefully this quiet, easy to install and full featured psu will last a long time.

Cons: Ask me again a few years from now, but appears to be of high quality and solid build construction.

Other Thoughts: Amazing how much dust had accumulated on the Intel cpu heat sink underneath the fan. If you have a lot of noise take a look and I might have saved another problem cleaning that out. Now nice and quiet, very happy.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: - Energy efficient
- Quiet(at least in the beginning)

Cons: - Weird audible noises(see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: After using it about 7 months normally, my PSU started to make this small annoying audible sounds; it sounds like there's a pebble there in rattling around. The sound comes and goes randomly and it has gotten louder. Anyone looking for a truly quiet PSU should look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGood PSU

Pros: Power efficient
Quiet
Strong
Dual rails great for vid card running a 9800 GTX+ going to get a ATI 5830, very impressive. Most cards need 35-40 amps this gives you more so woot to that!
2x 6 pin connectors

Cons: Not a 750?
no 4 6+2 connectors?

Other Thoughts: As for the people crying about the PSU DOA, it happens with EVERYTHING, mobos, vid cards, sound cards, even ram. Get over it and get a new one. Also if you had your computer die when it was installed then either,
A. You don't know how to install a PSU
B. The Equipment you are using is to power hungry
C. You touched the inside and shocked your stuff :)
D. 5% maybe the PSU shorted your system very doubtful with all the safety precautions built in.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Good

Pros: Works. No problems so far.

Cons: Not modular

Other Thoughts: Didn't get from Newegg. Got it off Antec's site for $30 somehow. Still cheaper here than other sites though.

5 out of 5 eggsjust fine

Pros: I think this is one of the best choices , if you don't want or need a bottom fan. Plenty of conectors and good lenght on them. I bought two of these in the past year both are working fine.

Cons: could use sleaving on wires but there tided neatly so not much of a con

Other Thoughts: powering a DFI blood Iron / conroe 2.66 single HD and burner & 7600 Gt vid

3 out of 5 eggsPossible Reasons UPS Probs

Pros: Good Steady output under heavy load

Cons: Yep, has problems with Stepped-Sqaurewave output UPS's (like APC)

Other Thoughts: I had my first with a Sonata 3 case, 2-4 large Seagate HD's (non-'green'). on APC 1500 w/o any problems, lots of power outages sailed through over a year+. Then, bought a new Sonata 3 identical, moved the HD's to it, and put a 'green' single drive in the old case; will reboot instantly when the UPS kicks in. (new case works FINE)

Now, explain that! It's because when the ps is lightly loaded, it fails, but when it's heavily loaded, the stepped sinewave output is 'just fine'! But I'm sure that Antec didn't look at that, they figured that failure occurs under HEAVY load, not LIGHT load...!

5 out of 5 eggsCool and Quiet

Pros: - Runs very cool
- Runs very quietly
- Plenty of connectors; I got everything in my case hooked up with plenty of cables to spare

Cons: - Not much to look at
- Slightly underpowered for my rig now

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a machine I was building to be specifically cool, quiet and to be conservative on energy use. I wasn't disappointed. Unfortunately, I've pretty much upgraded everything in my box to gaming components and it doesn't push enough power for my 2 GPUs. Works fine in a budget gaming rig.
