5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: 80 plus gold, fully modular and runs cool and quiet although I don't really care about sound levels so I may not be the best person to ask.

Cons: Absolutely none. Maybe the price but you get what you pay for so it's not really a con.

Other Thoughts: FX-8120 OC'ed to 3.8 ghz
Asus crosshair V ROG mobo
16GB G Skill DDR3 1600
x2 AMD HD 7850 2GB

Psu gives plenty of power to my system without being worked too hard. If you can afford this, buy it.

2 out of 5 eggsOCZ ZX Series 1000W

Pros: Price is good
Plenty of power for all but the most extreme systems
Fully modular

Cons: Main connector cable (20+4Pin) are 25"
8 pin (4+4) CPU cables are only 21"

Main connector cable and especially the 8 Pin CPU cables are waaaaaaay too short and the SATA cables are just barely long enough to reach the drive in my top 5.25" bay.

Other Thoughts: Yes, I have a large full ATX tower, but after a quick measurement I'm not even sure ~10" extensions added to the 8 pin cables will be long enough to route behind & over the mobo and reach the CPU sockets like normal. It's going to be close.

I'm now faced with having to buy >$30 of extension cables + S&H just to make this PSU work. I'm not happy at all that the length of each of the cables is not disclosed in the description/details of this product. Had it been I would have known right away that this PSU is not going to cut it for me.

OCZ's PSUs have worked well for me in the past, but not this one. I might just have to bite the bullet and wait a week or two until I can afford to buy the better PSU that I just should have in the first place.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear EzyPzy,

It is not uncommon for very large full tower chassis to require an extension if bottom mounting the PSU. Some case mfg even provide the extension cable with the chassis. OCZ makes every effort to document both the specifications and lengths by providing a publicly available Product Brief and Mechanical drawing in PDF format. You can view the product brief, multi-language manuals, and mechanical drawing by visiting the ZX PSU product page then clicking "resources". If an extension is necessary there are options available for much less than $30. If you need an extension cable recommendation please contact us and we will help however possible. We want you to be happy with this phenomenal PSU.

Thank you for your comments!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very nice and well built Power supply. I owned a 750 watt before purchasing this PSU and it was worth the upgrade. MY Ivy bridge running two MSI 770's purrs like a kitten. Low noise. The modular cable bundled with this PSU are far better in quality then the 750 Watt.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of OCZ

Pros: Modular design
Good cable length

Cons: No power indicator on PSU
Poor construction/components

Other Thoughts: I wanted to upgrade my power supply to a 80 PLUS model. This seemed like a good choice. However after powering my system for 15 minutes something inside the PSU short circuited, tripped a breaker, and damaged some of the other components in my build. I've never had this problem with any other PSU I've bought, and I will never buy OCZ again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Steve,

The ZX series PSU's are a high-performance solution made with highest quality components. If you haven't already, please contact either Newegg or OCZ directly for a prompt replacement.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

5 out of 5 eggsSimple,quiet,powerful,efficient

Pros: This PSU is quiet, efficient and easily powers my hardware (MSI Z77 Mpower, XFX DD 7970, Intel I5 3570k, Corsair H80i, 2 HDDs, 1 SSD, DVD, 4 Fans). It is also evident it's built with quality.

I see this power supply lasting me for a long time and easily handling the overclock I will soon do and the components I will add on in the future.

Cons: None, worth the price.

1 out of 5 eggsDied on me twice :-(

Pros: 100% modular

Cons: Died after < 2 mo., got a new one, died again after ~16 mo.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy from OCZ again. I built a rig in March 2011 with this PSU and an OCZ SSD. The PSU died after less than two months, but I chalked it up to bad fortune and did a 1 for 1 tradeout. Less than 2 mo. after that their SSD died, and now (Jan. 2013) the replacement PSU bought the farm. I am now proudly 100% OCZ free after replacing with a Thermal Take PSU. I am never buying an OCZ product again.
