3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The power supply does an excellent job of powering components and sucking heat away from the CPU.

Cons: After two months of use, the low-noise fan became a high-noise fan and hums very loudly.

Other Thoughts: Since I am out of the RMA time frame, I will be replacing this power supply with a different one. I will probably keep this one as a backup in case of emergencies. Please note that the loudness of the fan is the only thing that I am unhappy with. Before this, everything was working fine and I was extremely pleased with the power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsMatched the Case

Pros: Purchased this power supply with an Apex case. I was a little apprehensive at first, cause I generally buy the Antec brand. I was pleasently surprised by the weight of the power supply. Label called it a 400 w power supply and I have found that some of the bargain units are light as a feather and burn out in a short time under real world loads. This unit seems as robust as the power supplies found in Dell and HP computers.

Cons: A little lean on SATA power connectors. Only had two, but that was all I needed for the build. There are 4 molex, so and adapter would be necessary if more SATA devices are added.

Other Thoughts: I would probably buy this supply as a replacement for a bad one, but the 400w model is the lowest in their line I would purchase. I think 300w output is probably the absolute this unit would supply constantly.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 5 weeks

Pros: Great Price, good feature set

Cons: Died on me after 5 weeks of fairly light use - popped in another PSU and everything worked fine so I know it was the Power supply - not worth the time to package up and return, will chalk it up as just one of those things

5 out of 5 eggsStill running after 5 years 24/7 service

Pros: My first Apex AL-A400ATX was installed in June 2004.
5 years rock-solid heavy use 7/24 without reboot or any trouble- it should mean something about the power supply.
I purchased a new one from newegg and received an upgrade version SL-8400BTX from my old one. There are lots of upgrade from 5 years ago- Dual 12V output, 20+4pins, SATA connectors…..
I put it in my new Window 7 system. It runs just like that: same whisper-quiet and stable-powerful.
I like its dual 80mm fans-
1. It creates the good air flow-Push and pull the heat out from inside the case
2. Since the 2 fans are so quiet, and you never know if they are still running- in case one fan fails, and there is still another one doing the cooling before you eventually find out- good insurance for the system over heat issue!
Did I mention my old system with 5 years old AL-A400ATX?
It is Athlon XP's, memory 2GB, ATI Radeons, two DVD and two HD's

Cons: The fans are not dust proof (it is always painful when you need to clean the dust on the fans- but it maybe also why I got the old one still running after 5 years service)
The cables are not pretty, but it may cost another $10-$20 for those fancy stuffs and they may even block the air flow

Other Thoughts: Though this unit with new model number – SL-8400BTX (fine print “Upgraded from AL-A400ATX”), it is till runs as quiet and smooth as what I expect from 5 years old one’s good experience
I expect this one will last till Window 10 released!
For the price and the quality, you can not go wrong with this unit (sometimes newegg even provides free shipping).
You don't need to spend $$$ to get a reliable, stable power supply. This is definitely a good bargain

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible power supply that you can't figure out the problem without testing for several days.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: 1. This power supply shuts down after several hours of use.
2. The power supply can't power on after several hours once it is turned off. The power can be restored by resetting the rear switch.
3. This power supply carries absolutely no warranty and you have to purchase the warranty from newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsWould probably work but...

Pros: This power supply met requirements, was definitely at the right price point, and had all of the connectors I needed.

Cons: When plugging everything in, several of the pins in the power connectors popped right out of the back of the plastic. I have installed countless power supplies before and haven't had this happen to date. Either quality control or manufacturing was lacking. I could have just put up with it if it was in my computer but this was for a customer so I RMA'd it for something else.

Other Thoughts: I am sure the power supply would have worked fine and others may not have the same problem I did, but I don't want to take the risk of power pins flopping around inside a customers case and have to deal with the damage that may cause.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good strong runner and low fan noise. I got a lot more than what I paid for. This baby lasted me 6 years and I will be buying another one.

Cons: None that I have noticed.

Other Thoughts: Newegg excels with the good price and customer service as always. Had to use IE to fill out this review. Hope this will get fixed.
