1 out of 5 eggsI didnt get any response from thermaltake and now I lost $50

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: It did its job

Cons: I purchased my psu a while back and got the rma done twice. As I recall, the first rma worked out fine. The second rma however, I got the replacement and asked about the shipping fees. I did not get a response from them and 45 days has passed. I am now $50 short and I dont really have a way of getting it back.

Other Thoughts: I submitted this review because often times the companies see these and figures out a way to solve the problem. This is not an attack directed at thermaltake because their product was cheap and did really well for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks with concerns

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Looks great and has long cables.

Cons: - If extra cables are in the wrong position, PC won't power. Got another power supply because I couldn't trust this for my main PC.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: I use these supplies religiously because they work and I never had to replace one yet. This one replaced a 6 year old supply only because I needed more power for the video card.

Cons: Still looking for one

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend these supplies

1 out of 5 eggsgood while it lasted

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: *the price was nice for 600w
* seemed well build
*cabling had some nice sheething on it
*cable ends were nice and tight and werent cheap as others ive used.

Cons: *cables may not be long enough for some cases
*Low amperage on the rails compared to higher quality power supplies but its to be expected at this price point.

Other Thoughts: I used this power supply for a backup rig and my kids used it a bit for maybe 10-20 hours of use on an old single core build with some 3 fans a 7200 wd hard drive a gtx 570 classified and a cd drive. (300watts+/- a few) worked ok, Rebuilt the system and gave to my brother. I added 2-120gig ssd drives, same Evga 570gtx classified(overclocked factory) and an Amd 8120 (overclocked to 4.0ghz maybe a mistake but ran fine) an Asrock extreme 3 board and 2-4gig sticks of gskill 2133. It ran fine for 2 weeks logged 40 hours all temps. normal no issues and today we were playing Rust and the power supply died all the sudden. No warning just pop bang dead, power supply hot and smelled burnt, room temp was 65*f. Upon further investigation the Gtx 570 classified needs a 12v 38amp rail on a 500w power supply minimum according to evga for that 1 card. Its my fault for not checking it in the first place but be warned if your using a heavy graphics card go with a heavy power supply that can handle it make sure the rail amperage is heavy enough the wattage doesnt matter or how many rails it has if it can not handle the current flow, the power supply will die. On the other hand if you are not gaming or are a light gammer with smaller cards or an integrated graphics chip or upgrading from a smaller power supply in a budget system this power supply will work fine just stay low power on the graphics end and you will be fine.

3 out of 5 eggsgood overall, buuut....

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: 600w at a decent price, matches my black and red theme, powers my stuff.

Cons: about 2 weeks through usage i noticed a rattling inside of my case, it is coming from the psu, as my headphones are large, they block out the sound from this so it is a minor inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: yeah this is a decent psu and i would recommend it to anyone who is building a pc.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
Please contact Customer Support to discuss the PSU's rattling and obtain information if a replacement is desired.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor quality components kills the deal

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: Had all the features I needed and reasonably priced at the time.

Cons: Lasted almost 2 years before its cheap fan started making grinding noises. The unit is still under warranty but not worth the return shipping costs. I paid S&H to RMA my TR2 430w (bad capacitors) - the replacement's fan failed within the first month.

Other Thoughts: Thermaltake used to offer excellent value without compromising quality, but not any more.

2 out of 5 eggsBought in December of 2013

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: -Cheap
-It works
-The cables that are braided are very nice and neat

Cons: -Cheap price reflects cheap quality
-Fan... the fan...
-Not modular, but knew this at this price point
-Fights my GPU for airflow... see below.

Other Thoughts: The fan. Oh my oh my, the fan. My case has a dust filter for the PSU fan, which requires the power supply to be mounted with the fan down (so as to draw air from outside the case through the filter), which is fine and dandy. I left it in this configuration for months until my computer began making this horrific whining noise that for the life of me I could not find. After troubleshooting various moving components (HDD, various case, CPU and GPU fans) I found out that it was this power supply. Apparently, having the fan pointing downwards causes the fan to pull down on its sleeve bearing, causing a horrific ruckus.

Once oriented so that the fan is upwards (pulling air from inside the case), the noise went away, but is murder on my temperatures as the PSU and GPU fight each other for air.

Given that the "Intelligent 120mm Cooling Fan" is touted as such a wonderful feature in the item description, I'd imagine that they'd try to make it last a little bit longer.

Although it does have a 5 year limited warranty, I don't think a replacement would really help resolve this issue as other reviewers have mentioned the fan making obnoxious sounds as well.

Other than that, it has always been a stable power supply and has fulfilled its purpose for months, but given that it requires being oriented a specific way or else it'll sound like a 3 year old throwing a tantrum, I'll be moving on to another, quieter power solution in the future that doesn't impair my airflow.

1 out of 5 eggsI hate being negative, but, man... Thermaltake, please.

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: It looks kinda cool.

Cons: Any con that a power supply could have, just insert it here. After only a month, I began to notice my computer grotesquely slowing down, to the point of it taking minutes to quicksave a single project, and even longer to load various programs like Amplitube 4, or any drum software. An awful hiccup noise was coming from the power supply too, though it'd do this in short bursts, and as it did this, my computer would slow down even more. Then things began to freeze to the point of my PC completely crashing and having to restart. I had no clue what was up, I thought my CPU was dying, or my hard drive had a problem, but no. Desperate, I replaced my Thermaltake with my old 300w supply that came stock with my pre-built PC, /which I've had since 2013/, and it works perfectly okay now. From my experience, this product is a waste of cash. Please just spend a little extra money on a power supply that'll actually deliver power.

Manufacturer Response:
