5 out of 5 eggsThermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Super easy setup. Fit perfect in my Raidmax Smilodon case. Powers everything wonderfully. Modular, so no need to worry about extra cables all over the place. Cables are flat, plastic coated, not bundled and cloth coated. It was easier to fit the cables behind mobo wall for good cable management.

Cons: Not an egg-loss con, but the cables are very stiff and quite long. This may not be a good psu for smaller cases. On the other hand, this is a GREAT psu for full tower builds.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an 8 y/o, dying 750w psu. I was getting shut downs while in game and upon restarting, I got power surge warnings. I love this new psu, worked right out of the box, I would definitely buy it again.

1 out of 5 eggsHave had problems since new.

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Heavy and good looking

Cons: Very inconsistant output, does not like to be cycled off and back on while hot

Other Thoughts: I bought this to go into a Thermaltake computer case. it looks like this one was a poor choice. I'm having a repair shop replace it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming PSU

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Runs my gaming rig without issue. (System specs: i7 3770K, GTX 760, six fans and two CPU fans, one HDD, one DVD drive, and 2 x 8 GB RAM).

-Nice looking color scheme

-Five year warranty

-Standard size, no issues fitting in my mid-tower.

-Others have commented that this PSU is loud. I have not had this experience. Even with my fans set to low, I can't hear the PSU over them.

Cons: -Not 80 gold plus, only bronze

-A little on the expensive side.

Other Thoughts: I bought this when my Corsair HX750 crapped out after four days. I RMA'd it, but I didn't want to wait to use my new build. It's worked so well that I haven't bothered putting the replacement Corsair in my computer. Also the corsair was bigger and didn't allow me to put a bottom fan in my case. The TermalTake is a standard size and allowed the fan. Only disadvantage is that there are not as many module slots, but there are definitely enough for a standard build (not enough if you have more than two graphics cards though).

2 out of 5 eggsFaulty PSU, poor quality

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It keeps my PC running when it works.

Cons: Fan is extremely noisy. Clicks very loudly at any time it's on.
Power supply will shut off randomly, and will shut off if there's any vibration of the power supply or case.

Other Thoughts: I got this as an RMA for my PREVIOUS ThermalTake power supply which failed on me. I'm unable to go without this PC for two months (Which is the time it took for them to get me my RMA power supply last time) because of schooling/work that need to be done on it, so I can't send it in to get a new one.

This is two ThermalTake power supplies in a row that have failed on me- I'd recommend staying away.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the Best

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This thing has been awesome, bought it at the beginning of the yr, constantly on all the time, still operating at full specs and is very quiet. Full modular makes it a 5 egg in my opinion

Will recommend till the day I die.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: cable management is top with this psu. Recommended the 750w version to my buddy and he has had NO Problems. Amazing PSU design

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for the money

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: While not truly "modular", it's modular enough to keep the inside of my case clutter free. Well made, well packaged. Despite other reviewers, I think it's a rather handsome PSU. Runs my set up without blinking an eye.

Cons: I had to RMA my first one because the fan started to "knock". Since mine was a present and was purchased from Best Buy, I was actually able to return it there and exchange it since it was within the window of exchange. Since then, 6 months no problems.

Other Thoughts: For the money, it's all you will ever need if you are a casual to semi-hardcore gamer or heavy computer user.

4 out of 5 eggsgood unit .... not silent.

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: * Powerful
* Modular
* High Quality Construction
* Flat Modular Cables
* Compact Size

Cons: * Not Silent. Audible. Can get loud when gaming.
* UGLY decals... truly painful to look at :p

Other Thoughts: need a power supply for a friend.
Personally only purchase Corsair AX series.
they are the best. period. have owned 6 total.
passed down to friends over the years as i upgraded.
Each is still going strong.

Friend had an Ultra X3 1000watt that died
he wanted something quick.
Best buy was our only local option for 'same day' acquisition.
(yes, friend was unwilling to wait for shipping)

This Thermaltake 850 is powerful, modular, high quality construction.
good reviews on Best Buy and Newegg.
Very capable unit that is well designed... EXCEPT...
My only complaint is noise level.
the fan is never truly silent. always audible.
during gaming the unit gets loud if stressed.
Currently loudest component in case.
Of my personal 6 Corsair AX units never heard one... ever.
Even when running SLI and Crossfire.

This unit gets the job done and makes few compromises.
Just be aware the fan is audible...
oh, and the decals are UGLY! :p

Worth the asking price at Best Buy... BUT...
here on newegg would spend a little extra and get the AX750 instead.

1 out of 5 eggsSour apples

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Suppose to be a new and improved series from Thermaltake.
Its big and heavy which is always a good thing for a psu. It has a nice paint job and has been pack very securely in its box, and is also semi modular which i prefer ackully.

Cons: Lasted one month. There was no warning sighs of psu failure either.

Other Thoughts: First Thermaltake psu I ever bought, which i payed full retail at a local store. Even though my friends told me horror storys about thermaltake psu i thought na this model is bran new. Moral of the story is, if you have the money by a psu made by seasonic.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi DarkBazerker,
We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We can replace it through warranty service. Please contact our customer service team for RMA instructions.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good PSU

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Runs Cool
Sufficient Cabling
Installs easily
Better PSU than most

Cons: Non-Modular Cabling short

Other Thoughts: Gave it 4 eggs because it's so new, hasn't gone the long run.

My video card, ati radeon 7870 runs better. Comes with a fair supply of modular cabling.

I have a Lian Li case with a bottom mounted PSU. The non-modular installed cables just barely reach in my build.

I cannot detect "spikes" in operation, such as in the PSU I replaced, which actually eventually exploded.

I really like this PSU, I am running an engineering and graphics workstation, with the AMD FX 8150 and 16 gigs ram. Underpowered units just don't cut it.

There is plenty of headroom on power here, so the heat transfer (if any) is no object. My case and cpu cooler move so much air the computer should last.

I recommend this PSU for brand reliability, seat of the pants testing, runs ice cold, no hiccups and is just fine.

I will rewrite if any problems. Better to "Oversize" your PSU!

5 out of 5 eggsNice power supply

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Works great. Has plenty of power ports. Runs relatively quiet. Not really loading it much yet but it fired right up with no problems. Received from Newegg 2 days after ordering it.

Cons: Fan has a little noise to it but nothing to worry about.
