5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy!

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Fan is quiet! (quieter then my old 700w Rosewill psu)
-80+ Bronze
-Built in voltage protection
-Flat Cables
-Modular
-55$ after MIR
-I only used 1/2 of the modular cables.. so I still have room to add on :)
-Dependable Brand

Cons: Nothing so far.. Just got it today. Will update review if I run into anything!

Other Thoughts: This was a great deal on Newegg!! Great brand, and a great price. Thank you to both companies!

4 out of 5 eggsGood PSU for the money

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Stable power for multiple video card physx/sli/xfire and overclocking. it works great. good value for this wattage. + modular is a big plus.

Cons: At first, I immediately noticed the fan was quite noisy. was concerned i'd gotten one with a bad fan, after a few hours though, it started to quiet down a bit. Now after 2+ weeks of 24/7 use, it's now silent as can be. Guess it just needed a little time for break-in.

Other Thoughts: other than the initial noisy fan, that has since stopped. nothing at all. good value for this wattage of modular PSU.

4 out of 5 eggsAffordable quality

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I had previously heard some pretty negative things about Thermal Take's SMART series but after reading some reviews I decided to give this a go.

I have no professional tools to test power supplies etc, but it seems to function just fine in my system. I have 5 fans, 1 drive, a 290 overclocked, and a 8320 overclocked to 4.4ghz. No problems as of yet.

Read a few reviews from professionals about this PSU before buying but it seems everything is pretty high quality.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for almost 100 dollar off at 59 after the mail in rebate. It was an absolutely amazing deal for the quality and worth it at that price but for 159 there are better PSUs

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost DOA

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Everything was in the box. Cables were flat.

Cons: Received with small dent. Worked for about 2 minutes then shutdown and would only power up for a split second and then turn off again. I tried another PSU at the same watts (Themaltake too) and system worked fine. Sending back for replacement, hoping the new one works for more than 5 years.

Other Thoughts: This was for a new system for my sons birthday, but now he will have to wait for the replacement before he can use it.
Once I have a problem like this i will be choosing another company to buy my future PSU from so that i don't have this problem again (at least with Thermaltake)

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Unknown.

Cons: Accessory pouch feels cheap and fragile, cords were stiff and slow to unbend from shipping position. Also, yes, totally dead.

Other Thoughts: My (personal) first ever PSU failure followed by my first ever DOA PSU.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We at Thermaltake apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I found this product to be very easy to install to my specification because of the modular leads. It also comes with a nice bag for the extra cables.

Cons: N/A.

Other Thoughts: I have one gripe but it has nothing to do with functionality. When orientated with the PSU fan downward, all of the labels are right-side up but the exterior-facing power cable port and power switch are upside down.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU from Tt

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It's 80%+, Modular, 5 Years warranty also a trusted name brand.
The price of the PSU So good even with out the mail in rebate seem a fair good deal.
also have alot of products from Tt
Power supply 750w modular SP-750M, Tt high power case fan, CPU cooler, Head set, Keyboard & mouse. oldest product i got is 3 year old thats my PSU and still running great. Run MSI 280x in crossfire.
This power supply going towards a friend helping him with his PC build.

Cons: Good price 93.99 - $14.00 off + $30 mail in rebate = $49.99
Really decent price in face if i was able to claim 2 or 3 more mail in rebate i will have bought more.

Other Thoughts: If you can always buy a modular power supply
modular means you can remove the cable and put it in the power supply
Modular Power supply you cant remove the AUX or the ATX sometime the 6/8 PCIE connector for video cards.
Full modular power supply you can remove all of the cable, including the 20/24 ATX, AUX 4/8 pins.
So you only use what you need, better air flow, better cable management

3 out of 5 eggsProbably a good PSU, but not keeping...

This review is from: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: 1. 850W
2. Great packaging and Cables included

Cons: 1. Loud
2. Cables are can be difficult to route as they are stiff

Other Thoughts: I think this would do fine if I kept it. I moved from a Corsair CX600M that had a rattling fan. I picked this up while the Corsair was being RMAed, but this is too loud. I'm going to return it as the load has NOT changed and the PSU is easily 2x-3x as loud as my Corsair. So I'll be going back that route, but will move up to an 850w instead of the 600w.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
The Smart Power series has intelligent RPM control which throttles fan speed based off the heat of the PSU. Excessive noise may be caused by a damage thermal sensor which is throttling the fan at full speed. The SP-850M is a PSU which should provide quiet performance. Thermaltake hopes we have the opportunity to provide you with a fully functional SP-850M.
