5 out of 5 eggsThermal take tough power grand 850w

Pros: Powering:
intel i7-4820k (oc to 4.5 ghz)
R9-290x crossfired approx 15% oc
2 SSD
CORSAIR H60
Custom built cooling loop just for the video cards
Plus fans, lights, DVD, etc...

This power supply has been amazing, mostly because it has been one of those components that you install and forget about, because it's gonna chew up and spit out anything you throw at it. Unless you're running dual r9 295x2's then this should be as large as you need to go.

I did a lot of research, scoured the internet trying to make the right choice, this is the power supply I chose and have been running it for just over 1 year with no issues!!!!!!

Cons: The only cons:
Im using a Stryker case and the Power cable that runs to the top of the mono is short for its intended purpose and is currently the only cable that cannot be ran on the back side of the mobo to hide it... Not a big deal.. But still...

Second these cables are extremely stiff, but that's not really that big of a deal... It's not like you need to route your cables everyday before you turn your computer on!!

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Modular, sleek design, fan is fairly quiet.

Cons: The coil whine from the graphics card is insanely loud. I have a GTX780 TI, and I figured it was the card at first, so I RMA'd the card. The new card still makes the awful whining sound under load. I then RMA'd the PSU, and the refurbished replacement they sent me back has the same problem. I don't suppose there is any significant issue with coil whine, but it's just a bit annoying especially if you have a fairly quiet build.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Please contact Customer Service in regards to the coil whine so we can determine if the issue lies with the PSU or the GPU. If the issue lies with the PSU, we will ensure any issues are properly taken care of through warranty service.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Coil Whine

Pros: Great sturdy body. Great packaging and cabling.

Cons: HORRIBLE COIL WHINE!

During normal operation the noise is minimal. But once I put any GPU load on it (gaming, rendering), the coil whine is extremely loud.

Other Thoughts: While I've always been a great supporter of Thermaltake's other PC Components, I've had the worst experience with this PSU. I've heard previous issues with coil whine on these models, but given Thermaltakes reputation, and my past experience with them, I figured I'd give it a try.

Should have trusted the reviews.

I assume RMA may be an option, but I can't be without a working PC due to my work while my PSU is being shipped off, and waiting for a replacement.

If it weren't for the coil whine, I could have easily given this review a few more stars.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We can replace it through warranty service. And you can request for advance replacement service. Please contact our customer service team for RMA instructions.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Powersupply, but horrible coil whine during high GPU Usage

Pros: Decent power supply, for a good price. Fit well for my system.

Cons: Coil Whine can be pretty bad when the GPU is under load. Usually I do play with the headphones on, but can be annoying for others in the same room.

Not sure if I should try to RMA this, or just grin and bear it.

Other Thoughts: I've head of similar issues with Thermaltake PSUs. But given their reputation with other PC components, I decided to give this PSU a try. Tho now I'm left with horrible whine not just from the PSU, but everyone in the house as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
A loud coil whine is unusual and most likely points to a defective PSU. We would recommend having the unit replaced through warranty to avoid any additional issues. You can opt to do an advance service so you would not be without a PSU for an extended period of time. Please contact Customer Service for additional information and RMA instructions.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming PSU and Looks Great Too

Pros: This PSU has a lot of cool features, my favorite being the DelayCool feature. It is stylish and has enough power to run more than 6 HDDs, Core I7, 16gb RAM, GTX 760 SC +OC, Corsair H100i, and Corsair H90i. Love the black and red. It goes with my custom painted case, SteelSeries Rival and Apex, and the LEDs in my case.

Cons: Not Fully Modular, but it's ok given the price and wattage.

5 out of 5 eggsStylish Supply

Pros: I looks cool. gold rated and it delivers. Power out puts holding steady within .01 of rated power out put.

Cons: Not fully modular. the rounded design is kinda wierd. you have to put rubber spacers on the side that mounts tot he rear other wise you will have huge gaps there. they should have made it flat on that side.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after a week

Pros: Semi-modular, beefy power cable, feels solidly built.

Cons: Not fully modular. Failed after a week.

Other Thoughts: This power supply failed an hour before our stream was to go live, and this PSU was in the encoding rig. Luckily one of our guys let us pull his PSU from his rig, but because it failed while the system was running, Windows was corrupted.

Probably going back to Corsair PSUs...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fully modular PSU

Pros: Great number of connections. I also picked it up for $150 from a competitor. Thing takes a power load from an I7-920/EVGA classified X58/GTX680 system with room to spare.

Cons: I tried to fit Bitfenix and NZXT red/black extension cables and the connectors on the 8 pin only cables will not let me put them on. I tried to see if I just needed to shave a little plastic off but nothing would work. Its a shame really.

Other Thoughts: For a fully modular PSU, this thing is a total beast. Beats the RM series from Corsair with out a doubt.

5 out of 5 eggsMore Power

Pros: Very impressive packaging. Comes with a nice bag to store the modular wires that are not used. Power unit looks great.Easy install with supplied hardware. Very quiet and has rubber gaskets for reduced vibration noise. Large fan which moves maximum air through the case. The modular wires are well made and everything fit together with supplied hardware. SLI ready with four drive raid powered audio on a quad I7 not to mention several external drives and usb devices are no problem at all. Machine almost seems faster and clearer!

Cons: SLI cables have a noise suppressor piece in line near the video plug which keeps the wires from bending near the card. This was a small issue with clearance of the Nvidia 560TI cards and the hard drive cage. It was tight but did work.

Other Thoughts: I have used and installed many higher end power supplies but this one really is impressive. Highly recommended.
