An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output; find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make sure that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 600 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

2 out of 5 eggsGood For a Bit

Pros: The unit delivered its' 600W peak rating for a fairly long period of time. Nice sleeving on cables, all black, with black connectors and no flashy lame led lights.

3.3v and 5v rails are solid and rarely went under the 3.3/5 rating for the rail.

Cons: Just after one year it died. No reason, nothing abnormal being done to it just poof, dead.

12v Rail dips to 11.65 under 600W load, within spec, but still too low in my opinion.

Fan is too loud due to aggressiveness of PWM control, PSU gets hot, way to hot even with the aggressive fan and good case ventilation under full load.

Other Thoughts: BYE BYE thermaltake, I won't ever buy from you again, Time to jump ship to Antec or Corsair.

5 out of 5 eggsvery satisfied

Pros: This was my first computer build. I chose this Thermaltake Power supply after doing a lot of research. This power supply is working perfectly. It had every kind of connection I needed, with a lot left for future enhancements to my build. My build booted up flawlessly and has been humming along ever since.

Cons: I don't think I will ever need the second 12v connector.

Other Thoughts: Building my first computer was a lot of fun. I will definitely do it again. Thanks to everyone who rights reviews, participates in forums and has put "how to build a computer" out on the net. Love Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsgood so far

Pros: no flinching yet. Though I don't have 800W of P/S consumption going into quad-overclocked video cards.

Cons: It wasn't free.
Not waterproof.
Doesn't stand tall enough so I can use it to change bulbs in the foyer chandelier.

Other Thoughts: Beeeeeer!
