5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PSU

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -Exceptionally efficient (90%+)
-Fully modular with plenty of cables means that you have a lot of flexibility for your build, even in a smaller case.
-Completely quiet. Can't hear it all.
-Fan doesn't spin unless I'm really putting load on my system (I checked)
-Comes with a nice case for the cables and a bag for the PSU.
-Clear documentation.
-Build quality is solid.
-Sleek design and dark colour.
-Trusted brand

Cons: Absolutely none. It's been reliable so far.

Other Thoughts: The one I bought was 660W which is more than enough for most builds (including SLI with GTX 970s and 980s). It's been amazing so far and I'm glad I went Seasonic.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great specs, great price (when on sale), fully modular, hybrid fan, etc.

Cons: Noisy circuitry!!! This might be a platinum certified PS, but it sounds like it is struggling to fight off brown-out conditions all the time. It makes more noisy as the electrical feed becomes less perfect. Not a good design...inside that is.

Other Thoughts: I should have listened to the reviews! Mine is no exception and the coil buzzing is very annoying. I have tried three cheaper PSs in the same machine and they are far less noisy. I am going back to a Corsair CS450M until this is resolved.

I will try a different UPS as others have mentioned, but it still makes noise bypassing the UPS. Oddly enough the platinum PSs make more noise than the gold and bronze models I have on hand.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi John,
Sorry for the noise issue but please enable all energy saving modes in your BIOS and this should resolve your issue. Often times it is the combination of the DC-DC PSU platform and the ErP settings of the MB that can cause the PSU to make coil whine noises. If the issue persists, please contact us at newegg@seasonicus.com and we will try to resolve the issue for you. Thank you.

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: One of the best PSU in the market.
Fully modular.
Got a great deal when they had it on sale.

Cons: Connectors fit in the PSU kind of tight, doesn't go in all the way unless you play with it a little.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy!

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Comes with an awesome Crown Royal-esque bag. Modular. Visibly superior build quality. Plenty of power, no inflated specs. I'm running an AMD FX-8320 overclocked to 4.7GHz, 32GB RAM, dual ATI HD7870 Sapphire GPUs, 5 hard drives, 1 SSD, six 120mm fans, one 140mm fan, one 200mm fan, and one 230mm fan. PSU generates almost no heat. Quiet, with the option of running it fanless.

Cons: Non I can find! :)

Other Thoughts: Comes with a 7 year warranty!

4 out of 5 eggsOverclocking Guru Tested

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I purchased this psu in order to save cost on power bill on my 1 videocard 5ghz overclocked i5-3570k system. i figured that i did not need a 850w ocz zx gold powersupply to run my system. My initial concern was that the new psu will throw off my overclocking and my rig will no longer be stable. After a quick swap, i noticed that the system was completely stable along with couple of dollars ill save per year on power cost.

Cons: The power cable and design is phenomenal, however the cables were a bit short for my corsaid 800d. I would like it if i can have a bit more slack for full tower cases. micro to mid tower cases should not have a problem. I was still able to manage the cables through the motherboard except i could not route the cables neatly as i wanted, since i had to find the shortest route to each inputs. If you are like me and is concerned about cable management in places you can see, you might have to get new cables or just get a whole new psu.

Other Thoughts: Jonnyguru gave this powersupply 10's across the board. My conclusion is that, if you are able to get get this psu under 100 dollars, its worth the money. I was able to score this psu for 80 dollars with the rebate.

2 out of 5 eggsLight buzzing noise at idle/low load

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Warranty, presentation.

Cons: I was hoping this would be a silent power supply when the fan was off but there was a light buzzing noise. Very disappointed. I also tried the Corsair HX650 which is made by Seasonic as well and that one also buzzed.

Now i'm looking for a completely silent power supply, and these two hybrid units don't fit that description. I eventually chose the Corsair RM650 which is cheaper, but only Gold and not Platinum certified, and this one is completely silent. There's absolutely no buzzing or noises of any kind when my ear is next to it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Irwin, Sorry for the inconvenience for the noise issue. Often times this can be caused by the combination of the power supply and the mainboard's ErP settings. Very often this issue can be resolved by enabling ErP functions in the BIOS. If you have any questions, please contact us any time at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Has 4 PCIe connections
Cables are all black
Fully Modular
Super silent and has an option to go fanless at lower power loads

Cons: Wasn't free?

Other Thoughts: I haven't experienced a whine like other customers, however, I've only had it a couple weeks. Was a breeze to install in my case and I can't hear it at all.
