4 out of 5 eggsOverclocking Guru Tested

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I purchased this psu in order to save cost on power bill on my 1 videocard 5ghz overclocked i5-3570k system. i figured that i did not need a 850w ocz zx gold powersupply to run my system. My initial concern was that the new psu will throw off my overclocking and my rig will no longer be stable. After a quick swap, i noticed that the system was completely stable along with couple of dollars ill save per year on power cost.

Cons: The power cable and design is phenomenal, however the cables were a bit short for my corsaid 800d. I would like it if i can have a bit more slack for full tower cases. micro to mid tower cases should not have a problem. I was still able to manage the cables through the motherboard except i could not route the cables neatly as i wanted, since i had to find the shortest route to each inputs. If you are like me and is concerned about cable management in places you can see, you might have to get new cables or just get a whole new psu.

Other Thoughts: Jonnyguru gave this powersupply 10's across the board. My conclusion is that, if you are able to get get this psu under 100 dollars, its worth the money. I was able to score this psu for 80 dollars with the rebate.

2 out of 5 eggsLight buzzing noise at idle/low load

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Warranty, presentation.

Cons: I was hoping this would be a silent power supply when the fan was off but there was a light buzzing noise. Very disappointed. I also tried the Corsair HX650 which is made by Seasonic as well and that one also buzzed.

Now i'm looking for a completely silent power supply, and these two hybrid units don't fit that description. I eventually chose the Corsair RM650 which is cheaper, but only Gold and not Platinum certified, and this one is completely silent. There's absolutely no buzzing or noises of any kind when my ear is next to it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Irwin, Sorry for the inconvenience for the noise issue. Often times this can be caused by the combination of the power supply and the mainboard's ErP settings. Very often this issue can be resolved by enabling ErP functions in the BIOS. If you have any questions, please contact us any time at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Has 4 PCIe connections
Cables are all black
Fully Modular
Super silent and has an option to go fanless at lower power loads

Cons: Wasn't free?

Other Thoughts: I haven't experienced a whine like other customers, however, I've only had it a couple weeks. Was a breeze to install in my case and I can't hear it at all.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Hybrid fan control
Build Quality
Silent

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This thing is heavy and built like a tank (which is a very good thing!). I set the fan to hybrid right away and the fan has never needed to come on which makes this thing completely silent!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent power supply

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Very quiet, includes all the necessary cables. No problems, runs everything perfectly. Easy to install with the modular design. Build quality is excellent.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would have preferred sleeved cables over ribbon ones but it's just a preference.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quite, cool, no coil whine.
Unit itself is great.
Cable quality/connector is questionable(see Cons).

Cons: Modular cable connection is loose for MB(Motherboard) on the power supply, no matter pressed how hard will fallout when you move the cable with little force. All other connections seemed fine.

Cable quality is not the best.

Packaging is too fancy and pointless(maybe teenagers will like it), this cost should have went to better cable quality/connector, Seasonic!

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Just about everyone has their own line of desktop power supplies now; after all, it's easy to slap your label on an OEM's hard work. People rave about Corsair power supplies, though Corsair has never actually built a power supply. Many recommend Corsair's AX and Cooler Master's V series because they are manufactured by Seasonic, which always leads me to the same question: If you desire Seasonic quality, why not just buy Seasonic?

Seasonic's Platinum series power supplies are the best units on the market today. They offer impeccable build quality, silent operation, and haven't built their reputation on marketing hype. The 660XP2 is the lowest wattage unit in their Platinum series that still has a fan. 660 watts is more than enough for any desktop PC not running SLI or CrossFire configurations. For those who desire a stable, reliable, efficient unit backed by a seven-year warranty, spare yourself the marketing nonsense and get yourself one of these bad boys.

Cons: I have experienced some coil whine from these units in the past, though I've also noticed that it only occurred when paired with a specific motherboard. These units are, however, known to experience a little more coil whine than average.

Other Thoughts: I'd like to see Seasonic release even lower wattage versions of these and I hope to see 80 PLUS Titanium units from them in the near future. No, you're not going to save a lot of money on your electricity bill by having an 80 PLUS Platinum or Titanium power supply, but, when you see a unit that doesn't have 80 PLUS certification or a lower tier of the certification, you should ask yourself why. It usually has something to do with the quality of the componentry within the unit.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, thank you for your nice review. For coil whine, please enable all ERP (standby energy saving modes) in the MB's BIOS, this should resolve any coil whine issues. As for lower wattange units, these are in the pipe line and we hope to bring to market in the near future. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsSeaSonic Platinum

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Tight voltage regulation
Low Ripple/Noise values
Very tight fitting connections which gives me confidence in the connections but see cons

Cons: unintuitive modular cable system
very tight connectors sometimes makes connecting/disconnecting cables a bit of a pain
tricky to do an individual sleeving job (tight connectors don't help there)

Other Thoughts: Don't look here for legitimate reviews, you won't find them. Instead, check out sites like JonnyGuru, HardwareSecrets, HardOCP for full assessments of this PSU's capabilities/specs

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing PSU!

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Super stable!

Cons: only 660w, but that is not really a con. Slight coil whine when I hibernate, but it's really not that bad.

Other Thoughts: I would take twice the amount of noise for the same quality. I cannot overstate how satisfied I am with this PSU.
