1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -Good Price
-Modular

Cons: -Dead on Arrival. Kind of a big con
-All modular cables are not sleeved.

Other Thoughts: In the midst of RMA process. i have no issue with Newegg and its RMA. (Wish they would make return shipping free but that is what premier membership is for)

Multiple attempts at checking connections, outlets, cables and no go. PS would not power up.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Devin, I am sorry about your experience with our product. We do our best to ensure quality and it is possible these failure can occur though we try our best to minimize it.
Perhaps it is also possible that one of the connectors such as the 12V was not properly seated?
Please note, the power supply cables are indeed not sleeved. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsNearly Perfect PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Very Efficient, very quiet, and does it's job well.

Love the fact that it's modular, keeps my case nice and clean.

Cons: However I must take an egg off because there is an issue with the PSU that can a bit serious for a huge computer case.

The non modular cables are SHORT! On my 450D i can barely fit the 8 pin CPU cable behind the mobo tray. I had to take the top (hidden) SSD tray out to get the cable to work.

While this will not be an issue at all with mATX or ITX cases, if your using a Full or Super tower, forget trying to hide those cables behind the motherboard tray.

Other Thoughts: I originally was going to buy the Corsair HX650W, however when doing some research i found out that they use SeaSonic capacitors and a few other things from that company. So i decided to buy a seasonic PSU. This G series 550W was perfect because it was cheaper than the corsair 650W (around $70 when i bought it) and I don't need 650W since i only have a GTX 750 ti.

The very short psu cables were a complete surprise to me, if i had known that they were so short i would have gotten the HX650 from Corsair. However after some fiddling around with the cables, i got it to fit pretty well.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review "died after 16 months"

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: this is an update to my previous review. Turns out I was wrong on the PSU dying. It seems my EVGA GTX750TI was the culprit. After my PC would not boot up I pulled everything out and installed into a back up PC that I knew had a good PSU and the same thing happened. Nothing would power up. Took the video card out and it powered up
Now the thing is, is that when I bought the gtx750ti in the descriptions it said only needed 300watt psu. I figured this PSU was good to go at 550w. Later after using the PSU calculator I find out that GTX750ti needs an 850watt PSU. So I don't know if this is the reason why the card died or if the psu is just loosing it's ummpph. Anyway after taking the video card out of the system the PSU works using onboard graphics and the system boots up.

Cons: None, seems to be powering my PC again.

Other Thoughts: I was wrong ,but will probably just by the x series next time. I still think Seagate makes the best PSU's I've ever used.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Brian, Thank you very much for updating your review, we appreciate this very much.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is version 2.

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is version 2 of the power supply, and if you have the version 2 there will be a Haswell ready sticker on the box. The hold up time is now stellar. Low power use efficiency ratings have been improved too.

The Adda fan has been replaced with Jamicon. I don't know much about Jamicon fans, but I can say that the fan hub is huge with short fan blades. It is very heavy duty industrial looking from what I could see without taking the power supply apart..

Cranked up prime with a core I5 4690k at stock clocks, and the power supply 12 volt rail never moved according to the software I was using.

The fan on mine is very quite. It's so quite I don't even know if it's on or not because it's mounted fan down. I have to feel the exhaust air to make sure it's running.

Installed this power supply in a Fractal Define R4 case, and I was worried the 12v EPS would not be able to reach when routed behind the motherboard, but I ended up with it fitting just right with an inch or so to spare.

Five year warranty and full of high quality parts.

Cons: 12v EPS cable needs to be increased from 540mm to 600mm, so it can be easily routed behind motherboard tray to hide cable.

Other Thoughts: Been using a Corsair 550 VX for the last six years, and it is still humming right along, and it does work with Haswell. Going to give it a rest now, and it put it on back up duty. Hopefully the Seasonic SSR-550RM will last many years, and I don't see why not because it is full of quality parts from the best maker of power supplies in the business.

1 out of 5 eggsDIED after 16 months

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: was quiet and did it's job while it worked. But today nothing, nada, kaput dead.....

Cons: Died way to early.

Other Thoughts: I've always trusted and bought SEA Sonic Power supplies. Thought the G series would be as dependable as the top line X-series. Obviously that was wrong. I should have known better than to go for inferior over top quality.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Brian, I am very sorry for your experience with our G series. Please note, we try our best to ensure best quality and performance in every line of our products. Please kindly visit www.seasonicusa.com to start the RMA procedure and if you have any questions, please let me know at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You.

Cons: The 8 pin cpu power is a inch or two short in my case. otherwise no complaints.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Specs look great on paper. Very effective at holding paper down on desks. Can also be used to club foes in hand to hand combat.

Cons: Some people claim SeaSonic is a quality manufacturer, this was my first product from them and it was DOA. It cost me $25 to ship back Seasonic's stillborn power supply to Newegg, and left me without a working unit for 2 weeks. The price when down while I was waiting on my RMA replacement, so I paid yesterday's top price, return shipping, and got a whole lot of inconvenience.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Trevor, I am sorry to read of your experience. We do our utmost to ensure quality in production and delivery. I would like to know if all cable connectors were double checked to ensure proper fitting and or if another component in the system caused the issue. Please do let us know at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You.

3 out of 5 eggsGood PSU, but noisy

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is a well-built, highly efficient, modular PSU by Seasonic, a brand known for the quality of their products. The build quality on this PSU is outstanding, which you can easily tell by how heavy the thing is. Despite this, I have to give it three stars because of the con- see below.

Cons: The fan on my unit was clearly audible. In fact, it was the loudest fan in my system, and possibly one of the loudest PSUs I have owned. It also had a high pitched "whirring" character to it. I am not sure whether mine was a lemon, I have RMAed it and bought an x650 instead- and now my system is silent. As the x650 is only 20-30 dollars more expensive, I would recommend that over this PSU if sound is a concern at all. If it wasn't for the warranty, I would have just replaced the fan instead of going through the hassle of the RMA process.

Other Thoughts: Nice packaging. It's a shame about the noise, otherwise this would have been a perfect PSU.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Kevin, sorry about the noise issue. The G series will be a bit noiser than the X as the X can be put into the silent mode but still it should be not be louder than your case fans or your CPU cooler. Please write to us at newegg@seasonicus.com if you have further questions or comments. Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggsVery quiet!

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I don't hear this thing while it is working. I have this installed fan side down and it works so well. It is modular so I only use the cables I need. It came with all the things needed to get me up and running. It has a 5-year warranty, which tells you how confident they are about their product.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality

This review is from: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: • 80+ gold
• unbeatable for the price and quality
• silent fan operations
• semi modular cables, i like the flat modular cables
• 550w is plenty for my needs
• Addtional Velcros, sticker, zip ties. awesome goodies!

Cons: • 8 pin cpu connector is a little short for my corsair 2300t case running it to the top cut out. I did manage to plug it in but feels tight.
• 24 pin feels very stiff

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for my first build. The cable management was a breeze.
