5 out of 5 eggsprice hard to beat

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Bought when temporarily marked down to $90, with a $15 rebate = $75, as instructed by many comments labeled "no brainer".
Seasonic x650 is lowest price tier 1 fully modular Haswell certified 650w psu, with best fan.
I needed a high quality psu with constant "on" option for fan to double as exhaust fan for Lian Li Pc TU200 mini itx case with no spacw for dedicated exhaust fan.
I can live with a seven year warranty.
budget requires purchasing one part at a time.
Motherboard will be last, because of high failure rate, so I can return to Newegg instead of Rma to manufacturer, as Asus has turned over their customer service Dept to a for profit separate company nightmare.

Cons: many negative comments about doa and coil whine. If I have problem I will rma unit until seasonic gets tired of hearing from me. I can be very persistent.

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I'm not really sure if there are any? I spent $115 on a power supply, it was noisy, and it broke in under 2 months of normal use.

Cons: Makes the WEIRDEST noises. Not loud, but not quiet enough to ignore! Absolutely infuriating. I bought it to replace a 7 yr old non-modular PSU with same 650 wattage. Was using computer under normal use and suddenly shut down. Tried jump starting PSU to no avail. Back to using an old Coolermaster non-modular 650w psu. Old faithful.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Lisa, Sorry for the issues with the power supply. Are you experiencing both the noise and sudden shut down issues? Please visit www.seasonicusa.com to start the RMA procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please write to: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsBuzzing

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: na

Cons: Excessive noise

Other Thoughts: Constant unbearable buzzing noise. I am going to replace this unit. I do not recommend; not worth the money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Daniel,
The noise can be due to compatiblity with your MB or your VGA's dynamic load profile not meeting Intel spec. Please enable all ErP, energy saving modes in your BIOS. If you have any questsions, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You

4 out of 5 eggsNo parallel SATA power connectors, really?

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: High build quality and presentation, well-reviewed (although the "Flawless" review cited on the product page is for an earlier iteration). Has only been in my system a few days but seems to be working fine. Long warranty period--hope I never have to avail myself of the warranty, of course.

Cons: All of the SATA power connectors (all 10 of them) are mounted perpendicular to the cable they're on, even the ones on the ends of the cables. The lack of a parallel-mounted power connector prevented me from installing the SSD not only on the motherboard backplate riser of my case as originally planned, but in the only other viable fixed location available for it. So in the end my SSD is temporarily and awkwardly hanging off the power cable above the HDD cage, until I get an extension cable for it with a parallel connector, which BTW would have been a heck of a lot more useful to include than the floppy disk drive power cable adapter. In the age of $20 dollar 32 GB USB flash drives, who uses floppies any more, honestly?
An extension/adapter cable with a parallel connector or two should have come included with a quality power supply like this one--that it isn't is a glaring oversight, so one egg knocked off there.

2 out of 5 eggsQuality is not equal to appearance

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Packaging is beautiful. All the materials say quality.
Good layout for the modular plugs.
The modular cables themselves are flat ribbon style, which I like.
Separate modular cable for the primary ATX connection.
The fan seems to be high quality.
Has a switch for two different fan speed modes.

Cons: After being exposed to a heavier load (AKA gaming), the PSU makes a loud electric hum noise/squeal. My case is very quiet so this really stands out and is extremely irritating. After a few hours of idle running time the noise goes away.

Other Thoughts: Other than the noise there doesn't appear to be any problems. However the noise is obnoxious enough that it makes me want to RMA, which means I have to waste time putting my older Enermax PSU back in my case and rewiring my box.

I'm not an overclocker and all my components should be well serviced for a PSU of this size. When you spend this kind of money for PSU you hope it will be flawless.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Travis,
I am sorry about the noise issue but if you experience this under heavy gaming, then it means the VGA card's dynamic load is out of range and or filtering at the PCIe connector is not sufficient. In this situation, it is very difficult for the PSU to compensate. Perhaps if you test the set up with another VGA, this issue will not be present. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsstable power supply

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I've used a similar Seasonic PSU in another build for many years, and it has held up well with overclocking. This one isn't being used in an overclocked system. It is quiet/silent and hopefully will be as reliable as the other one.

Cons: Unfortunately, I had to purchase this PSU to replace another brand PSU that failed. So I paid more than I should have were it on sale at the time. But that's not the PSU's fault.

Other Thoughts: I guess one issue is with the SATA power cable plugs in general. Sometimes the orientation of the plugs is the opposite of what is needed and you end up not being able to use all of the plugs on the cable due to the increased distance between the plugs when the plugs have to be inverted. Again, this is a general issue with all PSU SATA power cables. I wish PSU manufacturers would try to figure out a solution to this.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Fully modular.
All black cables.
Great efficiency.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Seasonic makes the best PSU's on the market today hands down. They also make many of the other brands PSU's. My mentality, why drive a Toyota when you can drive a Lexus? Why buy Corsair when you can buy Seasonic?

3 out of 5 eggsGood PS - bad promotion

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great Power Supply - modular, allows you to use just what you need to keep your case clean and flowing air for cooling.

Cons: Knocked 2 eggs off due to BAD PROMO of $15 rebate that I'm still waiting for 6 months later. Followed ALL instructions for submission, "supposedly" rebate was issued - didn't get it, had to call multiple times for re-issue. They said its "supposed" to be delivered by 1/20/15 - Guess what? No rebate check and the Customer Service agent said there is nothing she can do about it. Tell me this - How hard is it to issue a rebate check, put proper sending address and postage and drop in the mail?
Extremely disappointed here, only because I would have used that rebate check to purchase more items from Newegg.
'nuff said!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Chris, I am sorry to read about the promo issue not properly handled. Please note, this is an issue with NewEgg and not Sea Sonic and I kindly ask that you contact NewEgg. This review site is for Seasonic products. If you have any questions, please contact me at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on first DOA Unit.

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: High efficiency.
Above average build quality.
Cables are long and sleeved nicely.
Nice presentation in the package.
Quiet.

Cons: First one was DOA, need better QA before these leave the warehouse.

Other Thoughts: First one was DOA but this one works perfectly. When this goes on sale its hard to beat.
